It was raining, the thunderous roar of lightning could be heard all over, and the purple hue of lightning bolts raced across the sky, illuminating the night sky and revealing nothing but the dark and depressing storm.
I sit on my bed, reminiscing about my graduation day; the evening was more depressing than now.
Walking into the auditorium, I notice that the building is old and dated, the paint slowly fading. The once yellow sides were full of life and shine and are now reduced to a depressing representation of my life.
Looking around, I notice that Jenny is standing alone; the look on her face is that of sadness and regret.
"Jenny!
Come over here!" I yelled out, and it seemed that she didn't hear me.
Walking over to her, she faces me, and a small teardrop rolls down her
beautiful pale face.
"This is difficult to say, Kamen, so I'm just going to let it all out." She says looking up at me. "My parents don't think it's a good idea that we're still friends; they think it would be better if we went out separate ways."
"Jenny, I-" Before I could finish my sentence, she disappeared into the crowd, and I never saw her again.
Later that day.
I go into my kitchen, hoping that something will cure my aching stomach. Spotting my favorite cereal, I grab it. " Cinnaflakes, I haven't had this in a long time." Grabbing a bowl and some milk, I sit at my table to enjoy my late dinner/breakfast.
Suddenly, I heard a scream from outside the house. "Was that a
scream?" I ask myself as I quickly place the bowl down on the table.
I
rush to the door. As I open it, I see a man holding onto a woman who
can be seen screaming and attempting to fight back. He looks at least 30
years old; his clothes, however, seem much older.
He's wearing an old jacket that looks to be from the 1940s, and his
pants seem to be blue jeans that look like they were meticulously ironed
and cleaned.
I decide to be stupid and attempt to yell out. "Hey! Let her go!"
The man stops and turns to me, his eyes a beautiful yet deadly red.
The eyes of a predator, someone who would do anything to anyone without
worry for himself.
He opens his mouth to speak, and I notice his
teeth. They're stained red, and what's meant to be his canines appear to
be insanely sharp, like how a razor would be. "This does not involve
you, stay out of this you lowly human."
"What was with that guy? He didn't look like he belonged here, and the fact that he mentioned I was human, something is terribly off." I think to myself as I rush back into the house and grab a flashlight.
Obtaining the flashlight, I rush back towards the forest, hoping that I can somehow help that woman. The lightning and my flashlight do little to help, only illuminating patches of the forest, not enough for me to get my barrings.
Suddenly, I hear that woman's scream again; running towards the sound, I stop when I see the man lifting the woman off the ground by her throat. Suddenly, a gasp escapes my mouth as the man looks at me and bites down on the woman, draining the blood from her neck.
The man smiles and drops the woman. As her body hits the soft earth
beneath her, he's gone. Seconds later, he suddenly appears next to me, a
crazed look in his blood-red eyes.
I hear a voice call out; it
sounds eerily familiar. Looking to what I assume is the west, I see
Jenny rushing towards us, that same look in her eyes. "Oh my god, her
eyes are the same as his." I think to myself as she speaks.
"Get away from him, Alistair! He's mine!" She yells out, her voice echoing through the forest.
"Oh, of course. The love-sick friend is here to save the day once again!" Alistair yells out, clearly not convinced.
"Jenny, what the fuck is going on, and how did you know I was here?" I yell out in confusion, panic slowly creeping into my voice.
"Damn it, Alistair, I told you before that Kamen was mine!" Jenny said in a low growl.
"I never said I would listen, and he's the one who tried to stop me from eating this girl." He motions to the woman lying still on the ground covered in blood, her eyes are wide open in shock.
Shocked, I cannot look away from Jenny; the image of her in my head is shattered and replaced by this monster. "Is this why she had to stop being friends with me?" I think to myself.
"I'm sorry, Kamen, I didn't know how to tell you, I'm reaching my mature age, and my parents didn't think I could hold back around you without draining you of your blood." She said, looking intensely towards Alistair.
Alistair bursts out laughing. "I'm sorry Jenny, I don't think I can keep this up."
Confused, I look towards Jenny. "What's he talking about, Jenny? How do you know this man?" I ask, perplexed.
Jenny sighs holding her hand to her head. "Alright, look, Alistair isn't going to hurt you; this was his idea for a 'funny prank' " She explained.
"So this is all a joke? What about that woman? Is she in on this too?" I asked, anger and frustration taking me over.
"No," Alistair says while he picks up the woman from the ground and bites into her neck again for another sip of blood. "Ah, that was tasty." Alistair throws her back on the ground. " That ugly woman-"
The woman on the earth gets up and smacks Alistair on the head. "UGLY? I'LL SHOW YOU UGLY!" She screams out as she attempts to strike the man again, forcing him to run circles around us.
"I'm sorry baby, it was supposed to be funny!" Alistair yells out, attempting to plead with the woman.
"Okay, Jenny, I am lost. I don't understand what just transpired." I say, perplexed.
Jenny sighs and cracks her neck before answering. "So, the woman is my cousin, Becca; and that man is Alistair her fiance. He thought it would be a good idea to pull a prank on you, as to get you out here."
"Okay, so if this was a joke, how did you guys do the makeup?" I ask once more, confused.
"Well, that's the thing. It wasn't makeup; none of it was." She explained, rubbing the side of her neck.
Before
I can say anything, Jenny grabs my neck at a speed I didn't know was
possible and bites down onto me, draining me of my blood.
"I'm sorry, Kamen. It had to be done this way." Were the last words I heard escape her lips as everything turned to total darkness
"Hey, fuck face. Wake up!" I hear Jenny say as I feel a hand strike my face.
Feeling the sudden slap to the face, I immediately get out of bed and look around.
"What the fuck was that for, and where am I?" I ask, looking around the unfamiliar room.
"I turned you into a vampire, Kamen." Jenny says, coughing into her hand and looking away.
"What was that? You turned me into a vampire?! How is that possible?!" I yell out, gripping the bedpost and cracking it.
Jenny goes on to explain everything that had transpired last night.
"So, I'm essentially a vampire now? Why would you do that?" I ask, calming down.
Jenny looks pensive. "The reason I turned you is so that we could be together again without any input from my family. I started missing you more and more as the days went on."
Alistair appears in the door frame, eating an apple. "Well, to be exact. You're not technically a vampire yet. You haven't fully transitioned yet, so you're in the limbo stage."
"This guy thinks he's so cool, with his bomber jacket and apple. So what happens if I don't fully transition? Do I go back to human?" I ask with a hint of irritation in my voice.
"Unfortunately, it's not that simple; if you were not to consume
human blood and miss the deadline. Then you will essentially wither and
die from the vampire blood within your system." Jenny goes on to explain
as she throws me a set of clothes.
"Put those on and meet us outside."
Looking at the clothes, I'm perplexed. "I have perfect clothes on already, don't I?" I say as I look down and see my nakedness. Shocked, I look around, grab the blanket on the bed, and cover myself up.
"Please, trust me, buddy, you ain't got anything special that needs to be covered up." Alistair says, laughing as he walks out of the room.
