It was already the dead of the night when Clyde Carter got out from work. It was an excruciatingly busy day. He had to handle 10 different cases of theft and public indecency. He lived in the big city, after all, the pay's larger and the work's more demanding. He left the office immediately once he finished filing the last report. The only people left in the office are the ones who start at night. His shift has long passed.
He rushed to the train station to catch the last ride home. He ran as fast as he could, he looked at his watch and saw that it was already too late. The final train already left seconds ago. He gritted his teeth and furiously stomped his feet on the ground. If only he was a minute faster, he could have gotten on that train.
He lit a cigarette out of frustration as he waited for a taxi to come by. It will be pricey but for him, it is well worth it if it means he can finally lay down on his bed. He waited and waited, seconds turned to minutes and minutes, luckily, didn't turn into hours. After standing there for 20 minutes, a cab finally showed up. He hailed the cab and hopped on. He slouched on the leather seat and rested for a couple of minutes until the driver tells him that they have reached their destination. He handed what he owed and got off the cab.
His apartment is still a 10-minute walk from where he stands. He has to climb a flight of stairs to reach it. He wants to find a new one, but he can't afford any apartments in the listings. He can't even afford this one alone despite it being super cheap. He looked for a roommate to shoulder half of the expenses. Fortunately, he found a deadbeat teacher, Archer Silas, thanks to Captain Nolan’s help. It turns out this guy's a friend of Nolan’s longtime crush, Shinta. Unfortunately, he and Archer don't get along that well. He's a perverted slob who always drools over this game show host. That’s the only reason why their TV is always on channel 9.
He finally reached his apartment. His unit is located on the second floor, which means, more stairs. He wanted to shout and to kick something. He was already tired. He does not want to climb another set of stairs. He sluggishly climbed and when he finally reached the door, he grabbed the keys in his front pocket and twisted the doorknob.
A hysterical roommate ran towards him and took a hold of his shoulders.
He was surprised, he never touched him, let alone breathe in his direction; a part of him was awakened, he was no longer that sleepy anymore.
"What is this all of a sudden?!" He snarled.
"It pains me to say this but, I need your help." He spoke as he shook him back and forth. He can feel his brain shake, his sight got blurry.
Clyde’s veins popped up on the side of his forehead. " What is it, loser?"
He runs his fingers through his hair "It's this crazy stalker. She found my location."
He was baffled "How can you have a stalker? I mean, have you looked at yourself?" He looked at him from head to toe. He's wearing black run-down jogging pants and a plain white t-shirt with holes and pink stains from eating strawberry ice cream. On top of that, he's wearing a very oversized blue jacket which looked like it hasn't been washed for a long time and mismatched socks, one's an ankle-length pink sock and the other's knee-length black sock.
" I'm handsome, okay? Of course, I have a stalker!" He smugly replied.
"You look like you dumpster-dived for those clothes. You look Home- no, actually, Homeless people manage to look like Hipsters while you, you manage to look like the dumpster you got those clothes from"
Archer opened his mouth, looking like he is about to refute every single word he said. However, he decided to leave it alone since he needs his help "Your shift as fashion police ended as soon as you stepped out of your office. What I need is a real policeman who can help with the stalker situation."
"And how am I involved in this besides me being a police officer?" He annoyingly asked. Of course, he has a duty to help those in need but it does not necessarily have to be him. His roommate could have called the police before he even got home. Even if he is cheap, it’s not like the police were going to bill him.
He looked at the ground and scratched the back of his head "I told her I'm in a relationship with you." He silently spoke.
