"Honey!" Flavian's mom called out to him.
"Yes!?" Flavian went to the dining table she was having her meal at when he replied her.
"I can't find the spoon I was eating porridge with!" she said, furrowing her eyebrows and keeping a confused face. Flavian stared at her, annoyed and stared at the spoon in her hand. "What?" She asked.
"Um, it's in your hand," Flavian replied. She looked at her hand and smiled.
"There you are," she whispered and continued eating happily. Flavian shook his head but he was already used to this. Mothers like this weren't knew to him.
You probably already know the trope by now, "reincarnation" and that's what was going on in Flavian's case. He didn't see any glowing figure or any shinning light when he died. Only woke up as a baby with a voice echoing in his head: "Congrats on your second life and many more to come!!!".
"Many more to come?"
In his first life, he was raised by his single mother just like now but died at the age of nineteen due to a blood cancer. His mom was poor and didn't have enough money to pay for medical fees. So while growing up then, he barely went outside or did anything meaningful with his life. Only stopped at middle school and the rest was hospital life. Now, in his second life, he was still raised by a single mother and they're still poor but his body was more agile than ever. When he came into this world, he couldn't remember his previous name or where he was actually from plus he thought he would probably have some cheat skill or extra knowledge about this world like those webnovels and comics he read online a lot in the hospital. But unfortunately, the god or being that sent him here, sent him in blind (not literally) and with no cheat skill.
At the age of three, when he found out about the no cheat, he cursed under his breath a lot and fell under a state of depression which lasted a few days but he quickly got over it.
"Fine! I'll live to earn money and take care of my mom this time around! Even though his mom is an airhead and she doesn't know who my father is!" he declared. His aunt, Aunt Felicia, who was watching over him at the time, thought he had finally become stupid like his mom. Now, he was living with his mom in the Kingdom of Solray and in the village of Hanso, where his mother worked in a bathhouse and his aunt, who wasn't married at the time, worked in a bakery. In this land there is also magic and fanatical like creatures which Flavian hopes to explore soon enough.
Back to the present, Flavian stared at his mom for sometime, her pale blonde hair ties back loosely on her head and her blue gem like eyes fixated on her spoon. Her clothes were worn out and faded but that didn't make her look any less prettier than she already was. Yes, she was pretty. Not entirely beautiful or drop dead gorgeous but she was like a pretty piece of art to stare at. Flavian loved to sketch her in his sketchbook anytime he was free. Her name was Livianna Floy and when he was born he was named Flavian-Neel Floy because his father was unknown. 'Flavian' which was for "orange-yellow" described his hair and "Neel" was to describe his blue eyes. His eyes would turn good when he was excited or in deep thought or in a deep conversation. His eyes would remain blue when he's relaxed or comfortable. Because of this girls in his village would always want to talk to him to see the change in his eyes. There was also another peculiar thing about him. He had a golden-like birthmark on his back which looked like wings. Makes people at the bathhouse stare a lot.
"What are you staring at?" his mother looked at him, curious.
"Nothing mom. Just thinking about life actually," he laughed a bit and rubbed the back of his head. He grabbed a broom at the corner. "Hurry up. I wanna sweep the kitchen and clean everything so I can go out without worries,"
"No need to rush. I'll clean everything myself," she pouted. "Have you eaten breakfast by the way?"
"No, I'll eat at Aoko's place before I go to work," he replied while grabbing the almost empty plate from her and keeping it for washing. "I don't want porridge for breakfast and Aoko's a good cook. Plus, I can't trust you to clean up now that Aunt Felicia is no longer here. You'll make a mess. Plus you have to go to work too,". His mother stared at him for a while then smiled.
"You're just like him,"
"Like who?" He began to sweep.
"Like your dad," she replied. Flavian paused as she picked an apple from the fruit basket at the center of the table.
"My dad? So he also new you were untrustworthy?" He smiled. She rolled her eyes and made her way to the bedroom. Flavian continued sweeping and later put the chairs in order.
After she came out of the room in her work clothes, she headed for the door with her hair unkempt and Flavian ran towards her with full speed. He grabbed her, sat her on a chair and began to work his magic on her hair. After making sure her bun was tight he knelt in front of her and kissed her hands.
"Mother, you know I won't be able be able to take care of you all the time?" he said I'm a serious tone.
"Is that why you always have Freddy the baker's son to escort me to my work?" she said while squinting her eyes. Freddy is actually his cousin, aunt Felicia's son but his mother tends to forget these things.
"Yes, I just want you to be safe. You always get in trouble or forget what your supposed to be doing, so I'm worried. Sometimes I wonder what you would do without me," Flavian rested his head on her lap. She stroked his orange-yellow hair and smiled. They stayed like that for a while.
Later they got up and walked towards the door. Flavian opened it and Freddy was waiting outside.
"Good morning," he greeted.
"Morning," Flavian and his mom replied.
Freddy and Livianna locked arms and began their journey. Flavian watched as she trotted down the street happily with little care in the world. She turned back to wave at him and continued with Freddy on her way. Flavian closed the door and went to the bedroom to get ready for his workplace which was the village farm. The farm serves as the village major food source and keeps the villagers from suffering at he hands of nasty nobles that like to increase taxes and impose fees.
When he was done changing his clothes, he heard a knock on the door and went to answer it.
"Where is Livianna Floy?" a man in noble clothes escorted by three noble guards was standing in front of him.
"She ...... isn't around. May I help you with anything else?"
"Are you her son?" The man asked. Flavian nodded. He stretched his hand out to the guards and one of them put a scroll in his hand from which he opened and read from : "Then by order of Baron Oscar Mill, you are to report to the Baron's mansion, NOW. We will be escorting you," He motioned for me to step outside.
What have you gotten us into now mother?
Flavian gulped.
