As the day went along I received multiple alerts from inside C Block. Most of them were pretty easy clean ups, like coffee spills in the guard's lounge room or spilt food in the lunch cafeteria. Though there were a couple requests for cleaning up throw-up or blood. So far my first day was pretty easy since my arm-band told me exactly what I needed to clean up the various messes. A lot of the inmates were eyeing me down while I was doing my job though. One of them tried to come up to me but a guard stopped him. At least I'm able to listen to music on the job! Makes it seem like time passes a bit faster than normal.
(Time skip, 5 hours from start of workday. 1300 hours, location staff break room)
At around 1:00 pm I got a message from my dad telling me to meet him in the staff break room where lunch was waiting for me. As I wandered down the halls, hands jammed into my pockets i thought about what my father had said to me earlier. How on earth did news spread to the prisoners that fast? Sure I knew that news spread fast, especially in an enclosed area. But how did they find this information out? Deep in thought and unaware of my surroundings, I rounded a corner and smacked face-first into another person. "Oh.. sorry!" I stepped back to get a good look at who the voice came from. It belonged to a middle aged man with black hair tied back into a bun. His nose was splashed with some freckles and he was taller than me but not as tall as my father. "That's okay! Not your fault anyway! Wasn't looking where I was going." I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. His brown eyes surveyed me carefully. "You on your way to lunch? My name is Ethan Carter, Major Carter to you. And your name is???" I stuck out my hand and replied with, "Janitor Star. Star Reinhart." He took my hand and shook it. "Lieutenant Reinhart's son?" I nodded. "Pleasure to meet you! Hope to see you around Star!" He smiled and walked around me. I watched him round the corner and then jogged the rest of the way to the staff room.
"Heya Star! What took you so long!" My father had looked up from his work to greet me when I entered. "I met Major Carter." His eyebrows moved upward with surprise. "Oho! What a surprise! I see that man gets around quickly." I plopped down next to him and he handed me a plate with two slices of pizza on it. "Sure does. Thanks for the food!" "You cook lunches for tomorrow! I'm sick of spending my money!" "Aw seriously pops?!? It'll still cost you money anyway!" "Yea, yea! Anyway do you think you'll be able to make that orange mandarin chicken?" I sighed and leaned back into the couch. "Sure thing Lieutenant."
