“Elise, my time is short so you must listen very closely.”
The small girl stood over her father and wept.
“I need you to do one last thing for me,” Her father told her. “Before I pass you need to perform this spell.”
The child leaned down to here the words.
“Do you understand?” Her father asked.
She nodded and started the spell.
Once she had finished the spell, her father whispered under his breath, “Now you can carry on the curse.”
She didn't notice him take his final breath. She was too transfixed by the overwhelming power she felt.
She turned around to ask him about it but noticed that he had already passed. She ran over and kneeled down next to her father's now lifeless body.
Her heart was full of sorrow, but that didn't last. As fall turns to winter, her sorrow turned to rage. She didn't know how to process this new emotion. She had nothing left, nowhere to go, no one by her side.
There was only one thing she could do. She had to kill the man that did this to her father.
Her life thus far was very hard with this new power... no this was a curse. She had been cursed and no longer loved her so-called father. It was his fault she was like this. That bastard had made her the monster she is now. She no longer sought revenge for him. In her mind, he deserved much worse for placing this great burden on her.
Now with nothing else to do she wandered the wastelands doing nothing but what the curse forced her to do. Her soul was filled with rage all the time. It seemed as if she had lost all emotion besides the piercing flame of wrath she had been given.
With this new found power she had destroyed countless army men but could not yet control herself. She could only kill a few at a time but the number she had killed so far could make up a whole quadrant.
As she was continuing on with her journey she met a very annoying man. He was not human but she couldn't pinpoint his breed. This annoyed her of course.
He called himself a traveling “merchant” and that he was looking for a group of people who would join him.
“You might know who they are,” The strange and annoying man said.
To that, she replied, “I didn't know street merchants were huge idiots.”
She then began to walk away.
Of course being the annoying person he was the merchant ran the catch up with her. At this point, she was far from being merely annoyed. She drew her sword but didn't land the blow.
Odd, she thought, as the man had pulled his own dagger into his hands.
“Listen, I am done trying to get you to follow me. Why don't you just hand over all the money you have,” He said.
This was the first time someone had actually blocked her attack. This man was definitely not a mere merchant looking to rob some wanderers of their money.
Still, he was also not that good at fighting, or so she thought.
In a flash, she was knocked down. This only made her angrier. She tried to get back up. As she was unable to move, she realized he had pinned her. This man was getting on her nerves. It was only a few seconds before she was able to move again.
As soon as she could, she lunged at the man who disappeared and reappeared in front of her. Not even knowing his name she vowed she would kill him.
She then remembered her power of slaughter. She smirked at him and began the spell that allowed her to use the power. She could feel the power flowing through her as she got ready to attack, but before she could do anything the man had cast a spell. She felt her power depleting. Her body felt heavy and she was having trouble staying conscious. She cursed the day this man was born as she fell unconscious.
Elise woke up on a cold, hard floor. Her head hurt and she couldn't move her arms or legs. This angered her. She looked around and saw the strange man. He was just staring at her. She sat there for a few seconds, filled with rage. He started asking questions that further infuriated Elise
He asked her, “Do you know about the seven deadly sins?”
She just sat there, confused. She didn't know anything about them.
“What are you talking about?” Elise asked.
The man just sat there for a few minutes. “Hm. Oh uh, I guess you were the wrong person.”
The man hadn't answered her question. He knew something she didn't and this made her madder.
The strange man seemed off. She examined him. He looked frustrated. He got up and started to walk off.
“Hey at least untie these stupid ropes!” She yelled at him.
He turned around and just stared at her. He then came back and untied the ropes.
“What was all of that for?” Elise yelled. “You annoy me then knock me out and on top of that you ask me strange questions!”
The man only stared at her. She started to draw her sword but before she could the man was by her side. He pushed the sword back into its scabbard.
“There is no need for that. We wouldn't want someone to get hurt,” The man said in the most annoying voice ever. He started to walk off and turned around to ask, “Are you coming or not?”
Elise was stunned. She didn't want to follow him, but she wanted to know why he had asked her such questions. She started walking forward.
As they were walking Elise couldn't help but think about the questions he asked. She barely heard him speak. All she got out of him speaking was that his name was Jay. She was too distracted to notice the rest of his conversation.
“Wait, what?” She asked.
He looked annoyed.
“What was your name?” He asked.
She looked up and noticed they had gone pretty far.
“My name?” She asked.
He started going through his bag, “Yes your name. What is it?”
She thought about if she actually wanted to give him her name. She decided to tell him.
“Elise,” She said.
He commented on her name, but Elise just ignored him. She didn't have time for his petty comments. She just wanted information.
He continued walking, but Elise stopped. The way he talked brought back memories of her massacres. She didn't want to think about the monster she had become. She always hated the curse that damn bastard had put on her, but there was no way of lifting it.
She had stopped living years ago. After the day her father died, she didn't feel any other emotion. All she knew was wrath.
She remembered one soldier. He had tried to beg for his life.
Please, I have someone I have to return to. I can't die here, he had said.
She didn't listen to his cries for mercy and had just killed him without a second thought.
Thinking these things made her angrier. She didn't want to live this way but what other choice did she have?
There were only two options, kill or be killed. She had to choose one and at that moment she decided. She had to die.
Elise continued walking with Jay until they reached a path by the cliff. She decided this is where she would meet her fate. She stopped and thought about her life choices. She then walked over to the cliff.
Just then Jay walked over and put his hand on her shoulder. He basically told her not to do it.
“What do you know about me?” She asked. “You don't have any right to stop me.”
She glared at Jay. He didn't know anything about her so why should she listen to him. She hated everything about her life.
Before she could jump he grabbed her and held her for a few seconds. This reminded her of her father. She hated him. She hated everyone and everything. She wanted to destroy it all. She wanted to be free from this world, from this curse.
There was no way she could do that with him around. She was sure he wouldn't leave her alone. This thought only enraged her.
Jay seemed to want to change the topic and suggested they get some food. Elise hadn't had a thing to eat in a few days so she agreed.
