A few days had passed since the mermaid and the fishermen had initially met, the Brother's casually continuing with their fishing lifestyle as the young mermaid lived in a shed just outside their cabin, enjoying being a part of their daily lives as the watched them work just off the shore.
Once they'd finished setting a net and returned to the shore, the curious mermaid eased her body down to the edge of the metal tub she'd been placed in, speaking up:
"So... What's Armagh like...? Have you or your Brother ever been out of Garthram? I've ALWAYS dreamed of what life on land was like, you humans have such interesting creations, much like that thing there!
The-The um... 'Car' I believe you two call it...?"
The young mermaid spoke slowly, much like a toddler struggling to pronounce a word when she said "Car." The mermaid leaned her arms and head along the rim of the tub, swaying her head playfully as she watched the two walk up the shore towards her. Not particularly addressing either of the fishermen as her tail gently swished and swayed in the water, it was a snug little tub, but the Brother's had been extremely generous to re-purpose one of their metal tubs into a small pool for her tail to stay hydrated.
"Yeah, I guess we, as a species, have been rather resourceful and crafty throughout the years...
But then again, similarly to how you've explained how mermaids crafted weapons to fend from sharks and other creatures of the deep, it's not that far off from how our ancestors had started creating things.
Guess we aren't so different after all, huh?"
The youngest Brother mused back, chuckling as he came over and playfully patted the mermaid's head gently, the young woman squealing and giggling as her head was pat softly.
The two got along quite well, always addressing one another whenever they locked eyes, though both seemed to always blush from the small interactions, not knowing why they acted such around the other... Though, it always seemed to leave the older brother with a chuckle, seeing the two like that.
"As for travelling, My Brother and I have never been too far inland, our Father only brought us to the closest market town so we could sell our catches. Our Mother used to live much further inland and she always said that the sights of some of the buildings are just awe-inspiring..."
He continued with a wide-eyed curiosity, staring off into the warm, cotton-looking, pastel-orange clouds, the sun setting over the waves as he imagined the scene of massive buildings that reached the clouds he was looking to that very moment...
"So I can only say that we've known the coast, but it's always been such a gorgeous place to live, we love it here, but someday we've always wanted to travel inland.
We just find ourselves caught up in the moment I guess, fishing and making sure our family and lives are stable with our money and everything..."
"That sounds like you should make time then, you and your brother seem like you two work hard enough, you should go and see the sights your mother has...
... Or better yet, why not reach out on your own? Go your own way...?
Shoot off for nowhere in particular and just enjoy yourselves?"
The Mermaid would innocently ask, now leaning over the rim of the makeshift pool as she bobbed her head playfully from side to side, almost humming a sort of soft purr as she did so.
"It's not as easy as just dropping everything and going off to do something like that...
It takes time, planning and money to do something like that..."
The young man replied sullenly, his eyes shifting slowly to meet hers, expressing a hidden desire that he wished to do something of the like, but that those dreams had been dashed... Pushed into the back of his mind for him to forget over years of physical labor and hard work alongside his family...
Or so he thought...
"Maybe it's just me, but it seems like you don't honestly believe that...
Not trying to be rude, but it just seems like that idea has been beaten down into your head for a long t-..."
"I don't know... I just-..."
"Oi! Lil' Brother!
We gotta check the net down the way!!!"
Hearing his Brother's voice, the younger sibling jumped, turning to him then back to the mermaid who simply smiled and leaned over to him, nuzzling her nose against his.
"Go on, I'll be right here when you get back~."
