2 plain text:
Log book week 206: Spring, 3rd Quarter.
Wisps follow us at night. They, too, seem more bold and feral than one might expect - more removed from personhood than any I have encountered before. They will not speak to me (or not in any language I know) and seem compelled by the scent of humans to pursue us.
I’ve only one archaic book on the subject of energy distribution; it suggests such cases may arise when a ‘primary’ controls the group, an individual of unusual power or of the Old Blood. I’ve attached an excerpt for your amusement, though think it rather unlikely. I suspect the wider trend of energy surge extends to these creatures, too, or I hope so - I shouldn’t like to run into any sort of ‘primary’ for this sorry lot, they’re rather distasteful.
In answer to your question: yes, the trend of strengthened ties since the imperial revolution seems to continue in this part of the forest: certainly the magical plants grow more potent still (tables enclosed for control vs. thujone concentration for samples of artemisia absinthium).
However, whether my personal flora of expression fluctuates at all, I cannot tell, being woefully bereft of any kind of control group (please do stop asking.)
Finally, though it’s hardly within your remit as employer, I’m eating rather better than usual, being in the company of a travelling companion for some time whose culinary repertoire outstrips mine considerably, in that it exists in any capacity whatsoever. While I’d like to send you some through, I’m not sure it would survive the journey unadulterated.
Ever your tireless worker drone,
C. S. S.

For anyone who's curious about the writing at the bottom right of the letter (next to the plant drawings) but can't read it, I think it says "Fig (B): I am extremely bored waiting for these samples to dry properly."
Sticky-taped note on the textbook excerpt:
"There's a bit later that says families of the Old Blood are 'often uncommonly wise'. I think you've disproved this hypothesis thoroughly, ergo: we can discount this whole book as nonsense.

I commend your extremely scientific approach. Though, honestly, any book posing judgement on our being 'wise' really does condemn it to the realms of total bullshit.

Pointing to the cup stain:
"If you've tried to obscure this part for my benefit, you've utterly failed, you idiot. Priya M."
...Why on Earth was I bothered to type this all out?
