Sigh, I guess it's best that I work together with the other narrator. At least until the kid goes away. Once he does Michiko will finally be able to hone her skills until she can compete in the The Crowning. It is placed every hundred years to choose the new leader of the demon race and the old man has won consistently for the past two hundred years. It can be call every thirty years if the leadership is being questioned however.
The kid- er... I guess I should call him by his name. Ryuunosuke has been asking me so many questions, it's getting tiring. Now that patrolling is done it's dinner, bed, then up early to start scouting the area ahead. I don't always do it but since the old man is busy, it falls to being my duty.
I stood outside the tent that Tsukiko and I shared and glanced at the old man's tent. He would come and join us for dinner but we haven't shared a tent with him in at least 50 years. I glanced at Ryuunosuke then walked to the side of the tent where Tsukiko was cooking dinner.
"OH! You're back and you still have the boy father brought." I sat down on one of the logs around the fire where the meat was cooking and Ryuunosuke sat down right next to me.
"Yeah, the old man said to always stay with him and I can't go disobeying the Chief now can I?" Tsukiko glanced at him as I did the same to see him questioning something.
"Hey Mochi, is the Chief your father?"
I heard Tsukiko question the name Mochi and I ignored it as no amount of arguing will get him to say my name right.
"Yeah he is, though we're not related by blood."
"What happened to your real parents then?" He had the look of innocence in his eyes but his question was a bit hurtful because of the memories. But he won't stop, so I guess I'll tell him.
"Tsukiko, your dress is a mess go change right quick." She glanced down at her dress and saw the mess from the glaze and blood but I knew she wanted to stay, but I can't let her know. Eventually she ran off to change and I glanced at Ryuunosuke
"A bit after Tsukiko was born and I was roughly seventy five, our parents got involved with some wolf demons and things went wrong. They became out numbered as the wolves ate them alive, tearing apart their flesh and eating it like the savages they are. If not for the old man, whose name is Mamoru, Tsukiko and I would've died alongside our parents that day. He took us in as his own after that since he didn't have any children of his own." Tsukiko came back and then handed me a drink as I finished talking. I stared at him the whole time and now he was tearing up. The old man came over and stared at Ryuunosuke then at me.
"What did you do to make him cry?"
"He asked about our parents and I told him." He stared in confusions then sighed while looking away.
"Let's just eat then off to bed with you three. Michiko, don't forget-"
"My scouting east, I know I know."
He looked at me before sighing and started eating. We all ate quickly and surprisingly Ryuunosuke kept up with us. Ryuunosuke is too long but I don't know what nickname to give him. Soon we three went to bed and I was the last to fall asleep.
I was the first to wake up and woke up Tsukiko before putting on my head scarf and cloak to protect me from sand storms if one appeared. Staring down at Ryuunosuke I looked at his black and white hair and still thought of that fish. What was its name? I continued to think of it as I stared down at him while he slept. I nudged him with my toe and he did not stir so I brought my foot back and kicked him in the stomach.
"Wake up, we set out in thirty seconds." He made noise of pain while I walked out of the tent, picking up a spare head scarf and cloak. I stopped mid-stride as the old man was standing outside the tent. He glanced at me then walked over. Getting down on his knee made him so he was eye level with me.
"You know the rule, scout the area ahead then report back to me."
"Yes, I know. And if I spot members from a different tribe I do not fight them, I immediately report back. Especially if they're wolves." He smirked at me before ruffling my hair that wasn't covered yet.
"That's my panther. I will see you later then." He stood back up and went off to his duties. The kid came out of the tent and I threw the clothes at him.
"Put these on and follow. We're wasting time." I turned around and didn't bother looking back to see if he was following. I'm still trying to figure out what that fish was. We made it out of the village and I wrapped the head scarf around my head making it so only my eyes were visible. Ryuunosuke ran up beside me and kept talking and I only gave the answers yes, no, or maybe. He better realize soon that I don't talk much in idle chat. For half of the day we walked, he talked , and we came across nothing but a couple rock formation. The name of the fish was on the tip of my tongue. It started with an O. Otter? No that's not it...
I stared ahead while he kept on talking like a stupid chatter bird that won't be quiet until you kill it. Wait...kill, that's it!
"ORCA!" I chuckled internally as I remembered it was called the Killer Whale or Orca and it was black and white.
"What?" He stared at me while I pulled the head scarf away from my mouth.
"I'll call you Orca as Ryuunosuke is a mouth full and Ryuu sounds too uncreative for me. So, you are Orca to me now." I smirked at him showing my canine's and he seemed to be a mix of excitement and confusion. Oh, what did I just get myself into?
