In many a powser fanfic I've read over the years, in order to make the choice of Peach choosing Bowser easier Mario is made the Hypotenuse of the love triangle and is sometimes portrayed very negatively. Just wanted to warn that in this comic, Mario... is just a really great guy! The kind of guy who says "Release Princess THEN I'll save you" but drops the rope anyway before Bowser even decides. Most likely knowing that as soon as Mr. Angry Turtle shimmies his way to safety the fight will continue.
