As you lay in your bed, looking up at the ceiling as if it was the most interesting thing ever, you could feel your thoughts drifting back to something you hadn’t been thinking about in a long time. The nightmares had been more uncommon ever since you joined the night class, but that definitely didn’t mean they were gone. Something about that memory didn’t feel quite right, as if there was something missing. Kaname had told you that a pureblood had killed your parents, and you didn’t doubt that information, but if that was the case, why were you still alive?
Closing your eyes, you tried focusing on what you remembered from that day. You tried rationalizing what you had actually witnessed. Both your parents had been killed in front of your eyes by a man whose face you couldn’t seem to recall. Next thing you could remember was waking up alone and bloody on the floor. The house was still in the same shape, bloody with broken furniture, but the bodies of your parents were gone. What had happened between those two events, and what was the reason you had passed out? Also... who exactly was that man? What did he look like? Squeezing your eyes shut even tighter, you try with all your might to picture the scene of your parents’ deaths, but the man still remained a shadow.
‘Think (f/n), think! You must’ve missed something’ you thought as your brain continued running on full capacity. Then, out of nowhere, a memory came back to you. The only thing in your field of vision was a pair of eyes. One of the eyes were cold blue, almost lifelessly cold, and the other one was as red as the blood staining the space between them. Those eyes shined with madness as a deep hoarse voice spoke. “Oh my, this might turn out more entertaining than I originally thought” it said, before the speaking turned into a sickening laugh.
You were brought out of your deep thoughts by a knock on the door. Getting up carefully from the bed, you make your way over to the door before opening it, revealing none other than Takuma. Even though you were still a bit shaken up, you had to admit that his mere presence calmed you to some degree. But, to your dismay, those cheerful and calm eyes soon started looking at you with worry and concern instead. “(f/n), are you alright? You’re crying” he commented, making you reach your hand up to your cheek, confirming that you did indeed have tears streaming down your face. Realizing this you quickly wiped them away with your sleeve before facing the male yet again.
“I-It’s nothing, just some unpleasant memories” you ended up admitting, seeing as you didn’t really want to lie to him. Much to your surprize, you soon felt a pair of muscular arms wrap around you, as he pulled you into a tight embrace. One of his hands found its’ way up to your hair, as he patted the back of your head, while the other stayed around the middle of your back. He didn’t say a word, and he didn’t need to. Just that caring hug was enough to calm you down and help clear your head. After a long silence, he finally pulled away as he noticed your breathing becoming steadier and calmer. “I understand if you don’t want to talk about it, but I’m always ready to listen or lend a shoulder to cry on, so please tell me if something happens” he then said with a sad smile and eyes that felt as if they were reading your soul.
You once again wiped your eyes, making sure that you didn’t have any tears left on your face before speaking. “Thank you, but I’m fine now. I just got some old memories back and I guess I got a bit shaken up” you then said honestly with a genuine smile, one that Takuma felt melted his heart. “Oh, right! I actually came here to tell you that me and Kaname are going to talk to a day class student, and I wondered if you wanted to tag along” he then said, throwing you off ever so slightly with the sudden change of topic. “Sure, I don’t have anything better to do” you said with a bright smile before following him downstairs, where you presumed you’d meet Kaname.
“So, who are you seeing, anyways?” you asked, getting somewhat curious as to who they were both meeting. “Oh, Kaname wanted to discuss something with Yuki about the ball, I don’t actually have any business of my own there” he answered while scratching the back of his neck awkwardly and a small smile played on his lips. Instantly as he said this, a smile started creeping its’ way on your face as well, before you instinctively reached for his hand. As they touched you immediately realized your mistake and pulled it back closer to your side. Unfortunately for you, he had noticed and soon after went to grab your hand instead. This in turn made your face heat up considerably, while he simply smiled sheepishly back at you.
Having calmed down somewhat you intertwined your fingers with his, as a sign that you were not opposed to holding hands, but refused to look up at him and instead decided to have a staring contest with your shoes as you walked. As a response you could hear a low chuckle from the male next to you, which made you face once again redden. ‘So this is love, huh? Seems about right... Rima knows what she’s talking about, I guess...’ you thought as you peeked up at him ever so slightly when he wasn’t looking. ‘Why do you have to be so good-looking?’
As you reached the lounge, Kaname was waiting for the two of you. Seeing as there were a number of people around you tried to pull your hand away, but he only squeezed it tighter once, before looking down at you with a faint blush dusting his cheeks. “Shall we leave?” Kaname’s voice could be heard throughout the room, as he probably got bored with watching the two of you. “Yeah” Takuma replied plainly before starting to walk, pulling you along for a little while before you matched his pace.
When you’d made your way over to the school building you immediately found Yuki, and you and Takuma went to wait for her and Kaname a little bit away. As to not listen in on their conversation the two of you had your backs turned to them. While waiting, the two of you stood in silence. It was really comfortable though, not the tense or awkward kind, but the calm and relaxing kind of silence that was always there when the two of you sat up reading together. Your good mood was however somewhat worsened when you noticed a group of day class girls looking at you and Takuma, or rather, only Takuma. They seemed really excited and happy, and something about them just made your stomach turn.
Takuma soon seemed to notice them as well, but in contrast to you he instead waved with a large smile plastered on his face. That angered you somewhat, even though it really wasn’t any of your business. Whether he chose to be polite to those girls or not wasn’t up to you, and you had no right to stick your nose into it. ’Seriously, (f/n)... You haven’t even told him how you feel and you’re already getting jealous. This is getting really pathetic’ you thought as you refrained from looking at both him and the fangirls. Your grumpiness was however soon interrupted along with your train of thoughts by a hand being waved in front of your face.
“Hello, are you listening?” Takuma asked next to you, making you look up at him with confusion written all over your face. This response made him sigh loudly before repeating what he wanted. “I asked if you’ve made up your mind about the ball. Seeing as Kaname’s here to discuss that with Yuki, I might as well ask you as well” he said with an expression you couldn’t quite read. It was rather blank, really. “I... No, I haven’t made up my mind” you admitted after a short while of hesitation. Catching you off guard, he then grabbed your shoulders and looked straight into your eyes, being a little too close for comfort.
“Please, for me?” he said, sincerity written all over his face. Blushing slightly at the situation, you decided to look at your feet instead before answering. “Alright, I promise I’ll be there. But only for a short while” you reply, still not able to bring yourself to look at him. Without warning, he once again wrapped his arms tightly around your torso. “Thank you, this is going to be so much fun” he said, almost as if he was a little child getting excited about christmas. “Y-yeah” you said hesitantly, cursing yourself for having stuttered like that. He then pulled away from you, seeming to realize something.
“Uhm, Kaname! We should really get going now!” he said, one arm raised, as to get the attention of his friend standing some distance away. As a response, Kaname simply started walking over to the two of you. “See you later, Yuki” he then, yet again flashing that handsome smile of his as he waved to her, to which she simply bowed in response. “Looks like... she doesn’t remember anything” he then said in a much lower tone, the smile replaced by a monotone look. “Some things are better forgotten” Kaname answered plainly, not even looking back at the two of you as he did. Completely confused by what they were talking about, you questioningly raised your eyebrow, looking at Takuma. In response he simply shook his head, as if telling you to leave it be, and that he wasn’t going to answer any questions.
Getting somewhat upset that he wouldn’t explain the situation to you, you faked a pout while looking up at him. Surprisingly, he started laughing at the expression you were making, and this in turn made it harder to keep the mask up. With anyone else, you would’ve probably been able to hold the mask, but this man was just too adorable when he laughed. It made the corners of your mouth twitch upwards before you as well started giggling ever so slightly. Realizing that he had succeeded in making you stop pouting, he sent you a victorious smirk. Understanding what he was smirking about, you realized that you had technically lost that one, so as some kind of revenge you hit his arm playfully, not being able to do anything but smile wholeheartedly at him. He went to roughly ruffle your hair as a response to that action, and you simply laughed at that.
It was stupid times like these with him where you felt the happiest. If only these good times could last forever...
