Doctor Jeremoth (Kol the zombie) was originally an Irish doctor and died after an experiment with one of of his dead patients went horribly wrong. He did not meet Blaine until a lot later, after he decimates and eats an entire village in Russia and Blaine comes to him offering him a pact to start a new life and to help him control his zombie urges.
