Gaston is such a chauvinist pig and Herc is trying to be the chivalrous hero. That’s sweet of him, but not necessary here.

What I find so amusing about this strip is the fact that Gaston and Hercules, despite being from two completely different movies, are similar and yet totally different at the same time. They are both considered very macho men, however it’s their personalities that prove Hercules is the superior man (or demigod). It just goes to show that being good-looking is one thing, but having an equally attractive moral character is what really makes a man, not a six-pack you could grate cheese with (and in Gaston’s case, I wouldn’t want to eat that cheese anyway).
