Lee Major Teeth Surgery part 1
Taking Lee to the dentist has always been a bit of a challenging experience.
I always have to remind the dentist and his assistant not to stick their fingers right in Lee’s mouth.
I learned that one from experience.
( Notes, see past Life with Lee comic) (Biting)
So the dentist will always use a toothbrush to prop Lee’s mouth open, kind of like how people use a stick to hold up a crocodile's mouth.
Lee won’t do X-Rays either, as he can’t keep the bite plate in his mouth, and he doesn’t like the lead apron you're supposed to wear.
So there is not much the dentist can do but lightly clean Lee’s teeth.
The dentist used to give Lee this set of big fake teeth and a big novelty toothbrush for Lee to brush as a distraction.
Lee has always been somewhat amused by that.
But after Cov-19 happen they had to stopped doing that.
One day, Lee started pointing to a tooth that was bothering him.
Lee kept taking our fingers and making us touch it.
The dentist said the tooth would have to be removed but Lee would have to be knocked out.
By which I mean with anesthetic of course.
The dentist said we Lee had two options.
(Option A)
Give Lee medicine so he would forget everything after surgery, but he would be awake during the procedure.
There are a million reasons why Option B would have been a terrible choice.
or…
(Option B )
They put Lee under, so he would be asleep while the dentist pulled it.
We were all for Option B , as Option A of Lee being drugged but conscious sounded like a disaster movie.
The first thing that came to my mind was that scene from Spiderman 2, were Doctor Octopus's arms kill all the doctors when he's knocked out.
So we scheduled the surgery.
But the earliest time we could get was at 6:30 am.
Luckily, we are used to Lee waking us up early.
Lee woke up watching Ren and Stimpy at 5 am that day.
Instead of giving Lee his meds to go back to sleep, we let him stay awake and got him in the car while it was still dark.
Lee was actually pretty excited we were all up so early going for a drive.
That is… Until we got closer to the hospital, which Lee recognized from his last surgery.
Which Lee recognized from his last surgery years ago.

I think that's when it clicked for Lee, and he started to get more and more quiet in the car.
As you can imagine, Lee was not thrilled to be in the hospital.
He walked slower and slower as we got in the building.
When we got to his room, he was shaking like a leaf.
We had him get in the bed, but, like the dentist's chair, he did not want to lie down.
I might say, "...but, just like with the dentist chair...".
Than a docter came in and said we would get to meet everyone.
Everyone?
Yes, everyone.
They weren’t kidding. We met every doctor there, about five, maybe six.
All the docter were very nice. But every time a new person came in the room Lee looked more and more nervous.
I tried to distract Lee by turning the TV on, but the only thing on was an episode of Practical Jokers with an exploding toilet, which didn’t hold Lee’s interested.
So, I gave him my iPad so he can watch Netflix.
I must really love Lee because I suffered through three painful Barney the Dinosaur episodes.
Then they wheeled Lee into surgery and he was still siting straight up as the wheeled him away.
All we could do was wait.
And wait.
And wait.
