The days that followed were unique in this new phase of this new spider, his channel did not stop pumping on all social networks, and his numbers were getting closer and closer to Screwball, which, as the name denounced, kept his posts on the theme of the old comedy genre, even when he uploaded videos about his acts as a vigilante, capturing burglars and homicides with elaborate comic traps. What was most talked about at Midtown College was that a meeting of the two seemed inevitable, and that the biggest trends in the world were about how these two revived the heromania trend, with even Bruce Banner's channel, now with the title of Smart Hulk, making a grand turn. Words ran about how people were amused, and how evildoers feared the actions of these two, and good old Spider-Man was finally able to put the wounds of recent times behind him and have the usual lighthearted relaxation of the webhead.
A week had passed, and now the lives and contents of The_Spidey_Web they already had a schedule, the arachnid was already flying over Queens with his morning live, from afar, many fans watched him from afar as he greeted them. At all intervals, the three friends sat down just to talk about the channel, and when MJ wasn't around, to manage it too, but even she seemed happy to hop on board with her friends and comment on the content, even going so far as to pick up a competitive favoritism for Screwball, something that ended up serving them to keep an eye open on what the latest activities of the only celebrity above them. This eccentric pet peeve of Michelle's often bothered Ned, but the decathlon genius' sarcastic wit and wit end up winning Peter over time, and soon he's becoming very close to her.
It was at the end of that day that Peter went out on his daily patrol, as usual, with his cell phone accessible in a compartment of his suit, so he could record any action for his adoring followers. And it was watching the alleys on a peculiar night that he saw a strange movement. Many cars parked close to each other, close to a small space between buildings, there was a movement of light, with sounds of metal moving. Shortly before entering the alley, he heard a female voice say "Now!", and when he finally approached, he found a group of masked men fighting with none other than Screwball herself. Soon, he sprang into action, delivering swift blows to knock out the wave of criminals, using his webs to pin them to the ground. When the vigilante noticed the illustrious presence, she couldn't contain her smile and screamed.
- Go, Spidey, wooo!
- Where did so many of them come from? — He asked.
- Stronghold of organized crime, just keep fighting!
And not long after, all the criminals were neutralized, and as soon as they both realized this, they went to meet each other. Spider was embarrassed, but Screwball was very excited, jumping up and down. She was the first to speak.
- First of all, I just wanted to say that I started all this because of you. When I saw that a regular guy out there could be a great superhero who hangs out with the Avengers, I thought to myself, “I can do this too”. So, the honor is mine — She held out her hand, which the arachnid shook awkwardly.
- Wow, I don't even know what to tell you after that… Do I really like your channel?
- You do?
- Yes, I do, haha.
- Tell me, your webs come out of that, don't they? — He gestured to the shooters.
- Yes, I don't produce webs from my body, most likely because they would only come out of my… Well, anus.
- Hahahaha! And the rest of the things you do, how is it? Is it the costume?
- What?
- Are you able to do new things after apparently getting a new Iron Man suit?
- Easy, easy — He waved his hands, confused — I… I really do everything I do. Aside from the webs, of course, but I do have the grip to climb walls, the super strength and all.
- No kidding! — She gaped — And here I thought I could replicate what you do, when this whole time you did have superpowers. You should warn the others, imagine if I tried to climb a wall with one of my gadgets.
- I never really thought about it — The two laughed, and started to walk out of the alley — But tell me, everything you do is with gadgets?
- Yes, I developed them myself, as well as my costume. Ah, that reminds me of something — She presses a button on her cell phone, and as soon as she pulls it out of her pocket, a drone appears from the shadows.
- You have a drone!
- Yes, I record everything with him. Now that this Co-los-sal meeting happened, we need to register this for our social networks, what do you think?
- Only fair.
- Aaaahh, come here, Big Boy — She pulled her partner by the waist, took her cell phone and prepared a selfie, giving a wide smile.
Spidey, still wearing his mask, could do nothing to express his happiness, other than make the hang-loose gesture with his right hand, while his left passed over Screwball's shoulder. The photo quickly went viral on social media, even being commented on in the biggest news in the United States as a quick headline. The main worldwide trend was “#WorldsColliding”. The next day, Ned couldn't contain his anxiety, as soon as Peter arrived, he kept asking about what had happened the day before, and Peter couldn't contain his smug smile. But while they freaked out over the reactions, Michelle was shown to be not at all happy about it all, something that was already driving Peter crazy. It was when they were at recess, and she sat next to them, as they watched the numbers of reactions to the infamous selfie, and she remained silent, and her expression closed, that made Peter decide to confront her.
- Tell me... What's all this for? — He turned to the student, with a smile that expressed both impatience and doubt.
- What? — Michelle countered, with a tone of irony
- You know, all our enthusiasm for Spidey. You can't be happy with someone who is from here in our world, a simple guy who needs support.
- Peter, look... If he needs support from people who waste time on social media, he's not exactly a very efficient superhero, is he? — Peter's expression jumped with veins of indignation — If I were a hero, like them, I wouldn't waste my time with what people think of me, I'd just do what I need to, and let people judge me for it, and not by what my like count says.
- You…! — Peter exulted in a sigh of indignation, but he collected himself and continued, calmer — Have you ever stopped to think that maybe he does this for the same reason as everyone else. Being a superhero must be pretty exhausting work, and maybe this is his way of relaxing.
- But there it is, Peter. It's not fun being a hero, the same way it's not fun being a police officer or a doctor, lives are at stake, it's something very serious. And if he tries to have fun at the expense of it, he shouldn't. Being a hero and doing what's right should be enough reward. It's not a game, it's a responsibility.
- Well, but... But... — But Peter had no words to answer MJ, just an angry expression. She got up and left.
During the entire conversation, Ned watched quietly, with an expression of shock. When she withdrew, he got up and followed her, scowling at Peter, whispering "I'll be right back." That discussion is not something Parker liked, whenever he thought of her, he felt enraged, no one had the right to take away the measly vestige of recognition he had from him, so he decided not to think about her anymore, ever again. Ned wasn't particularly bothered by his friend's celebrity status, but he had to give it a go, MJ had a point, so he took to simply supporting his friend out of friendliness, he knows all the things the Parkers have been through and still they pass, May supports Peter alone, and although they don't suffer any need, their situation doesn't leave room for much luxury, so he understood how this double life of Peter was a kind of reward for both of them.
Another day on patrol had arrived for the neighborhood friend, and with it, a new partner. Screwball caught up with Spider-Man, and she immediately started a live stream with her drone camera. The two jumped from building to building, the duo was a show of colors whenever they crossed somewhere lit. It was that night that they encountered a group of kidnappers in one of the poorest areas of the city. With their big black van, they kidnapped a family arriving home late at night. The hero duo flew to the rescue, there were several armed people, this gave the arachnid a chance to test his sixth sense, which was still emerging. It was in the middle of the street when several of them jumped out of the vehicle and began to immobilize the parents and gag the children, Spidey arrived with a flying slash at the kidnapper who was gagging the youngest child, when Screwball used one of his sticks to knock down another right next to him.
The tingle warned Peter of a figure hidden in the darkness of the van's interior, about to shoot them. With a quick shot of his web, he disarmed the criminal, and then he leapt out, machete in hand. The influencer jumped in front of Spidey, and began an intense fight with the criminal, while the webhead ran after the other escapees, who turned towards them. One of them almost shot the mother, but Spider let loose a quick web, and that was the first time he was grateful that the suit fired so fast and clean, as the mother fell to the ground, causing the bullet to catch scrape in her hair. He quickly disarmed the rest and, with an acrobatic leap, landed in front of them, and in a swift skirmish, he landed a big hook and a sweep, they all fell, stunned long enough to be trapped, ironically, by the spider's web.
He turned his attention to SB, as she also liked to be called, and was still fighting three other criminals, one of them even the driver, he deduced. As soon as the webhead realized that the civilians had already fled into his house, he ran to help, but in one swift movement, when she threw one of his sticks to hit a criminal who had retreated, she gestured for him to stop, and so he did. Confused, he could see the drone hovering over the situation, and as soon as one of the masked men took out the second stick, she quickly pulled out one of her cans of spray paint, something Spider-Man was confused about, but then she sprayed one of them in the face, and he started screaming, falling to the ground. One of them also couldn't dodge the pink jet in time, and it directly hit one of her eyes, also causing him to fall. The third and last one quickly punched the can in her hand, and with a smile, advanced to hit the vigilante's face, but she was faster, taking a taser from one of the compartments of her belt, and hitting him directly in the chest, he screamed in pain and backed away, stunned, which gave her the chance to hit the taser again, this time in the neck, knocking out the attacker.
- Wow! — Spider pointed out, clapping slowly — You really have everything in that belt of yours.
- Utility Belt, never fails. I was inspired by my favorite superhero.
- Who?
- Who else? Utility belt, mask with the mouth sticking out, just missing the butler and the cave, of course.
- You're not a rich reclusive who swore revenge to the criminal world, by any chance, right?
- Hahaha, who knows? — She approached Spider, placing both hands on his chest — Do you want to find out, by any chance?
- Uhh… N-no! Not necessarily, you… Want to reveal?
- It's a two-way relation… — She whispered, smiling suggestively.
- IIII… Gotta go, Screwball. We’ll talk later — He said, jumping out of the situation, embarrassed at everything. She smiled, mischievously, and walked away.
When he got home, he was tired, and strangely, May was still awake. She opened Peter's room and, confused, asked why he had returned so early. Avoiding questions, he just said he wasn't in the mood that day and closed the door. He felt a little scared by the implication that the watchful influencer had made at that moment, but he also felt great, it was the first time that a girl had hit on him without him chasing after it, maybe he was getting the trick of seduction and didn't even notice. He smiled as he lay down, and for the first time in a long time, he let himself rest more this time for a change.
