Jun urged Su Yi to stay home, rest for a few more days, and then return to school after the weekend. When she fell down the stairs, it looked pretty bad since she was unconscious and had hit her head, however; the damage was limited to only some bruising and nothing too serious.
After getting her situated in the apartment, he took her to the doctor to make sure she was healthy and was glad when the tests came back as normal. But he was always concerned for her safety and wanted to keep her from attending school as much as he could. The guilty parties had connections to people in power at the school, and they didn’t receive any punishment for the accident.
But Su Yi couldn’t stay home forever and would need to return there at some point. Jun had some things to work out over the next few days, then he would accompany her to the school: being a student as well. Thinking about it more closely, he assumed that the reason for them attacking Su Yi was because of jealousy and of how close he was to Su Yi.
To their annoyance, Jun insisted on staying with her and wouldn’t avoid her as the people warned him to. They would tell him bad things about her, and spread rumours he knew were false. He and Su Yi had been friends for a long time, meaning he knew her well.
Since they were young, Su Yi had a gentle disposition, worked hard for her grades and got along well with others. For a time, she was well-liked and had no problems with her peers until a girl saw her close relationship with Jun and joined up with some others to vent their anger on the innocent Su Yi.
Jun had tried to stop the ones from spreading the rumours and stuck by Su Yi’s side more closely to protect her, but in a moment of stupidity, he had fallen for their tricks and followed them to a place away from her. And when she was alone, they took it as an opportunity to confront Su Yi.
What started as a stern talking to turned hostile, and when Su Yi stood up for herself and went to leave she was pushed from behind and tumbled down the stairs.
The system Jun looked on as Su Yi was sprawled out on the sofa watching tv and he couldn’t get the memories from that day out of his head. If he hadn’t listened to those people, if he hadn’t left Su Yi’s side, that incident wouldn’t have happened, and now he had to watch as she relived those days all over again.
As a system, he could guide Su Yi, give her tasks to complete that would make it easier for her to complete this world and he could advise her when she couldn’t figure something out, but he could do no more than that. It went against everything that a system was and what they were created for. Furthermore, it was against the rules to even share a personal relationship with the Host.
When the Lord System had split itself amongst the different worlds, Jun had taken advantage of that and assigned Su Yi to himself. He knew her better than anyone, so it made sense for him to be the one to guide her, not some system that was nothing but a stranger.
[Su Yi: Are you alright?] Su Yi’s concerned voice interrupted his inner musings and startled the system a little. It had been a long time since she had spoken to him and not the Jun of this world.
He loosened his brow and his features softened as he saw Su Yi turn to face him. Nearly every day this world’s Jun would come to visit and spend time with her when he wasn’t busy, so Su Yi had to pretend to notice the system and had failed to notice his anguish. But now they were alone, she had sensed loneliness coming from the side, and had watched the system as he got lost in his thoughts.
Long ago she had guessed something about the system and the Jun of this world. Their voices, their appearance and the little characteristics that made up their very beings were so alike that she would be stupid to not be able to tell that they were one and the same. But she knew it wasn’t the best time to bring it up when they hadn’t completed the task for this world.
She had been quite passive since she arrived here - with the loss of her memories, adjusting to being in a place different to her own before, and getting to know the people of this world. Now she was slowly acclimating to this world and was ready to tackle the task and go on to the next.
The sooner she finished, the closer she would be to getting her memory back.
Jun could kind of guess her line of thoughts, and a genuine smile lit up his face.
[System: I’m fine, don’t worry about me. Are you ready for school?] He dismissed the question about himself and asked her one of his own. Even if he didn’t let it show, he was worried about what would happen when she went back to school: those people were still there, after all.
Su Yi got up and sat on the sofa properly and faced the system. She thought of something and waved her hand dismissively. [I’m not, but I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s just school. How bad could it be?]
Jun was taken aback by her words and wanted to say something more but held back, and chose to remain silent. There were no comforting words he could say, nor could he dissuade her from going. He could only hope that the him of this world would do a better job of protecting her than he did.
