Iris saw another soul drift to her as she prepared the paperwork. She was hardly prepared for a snake though. She read the paperwork and tried to go through with her script anyway.
“Hey there little guy.” Iris said gently. “Hm… Fluffy. You know where this is?”
Fluffy nodded his head in confirmation. Iris was impressed how smart of a snake he was. He let out a flurry of hisses and movements at her. Luckily, Iris could understand his intentions, even if she couldn’t fully translate.
“You wanna protect your owner, right?” she asked. Fluffy slithered up her arm and rubbed against her neck.
“Let me tell you a secret then. But you can’t tell anyone, got it?” Iris whispered. “If you let me know your owner’s name, I can give you to them.”
Fluffy tilted his head and flickered out his tongue. Iris rubbed his chin and chuckled.
“Beatrice Lydia Elenore Hawthorne… let’s see…” Iris mumbled, looking through her list of souls. “Looks like she’s… oh dear. She went straight to Hell, little guy.”
Fluffy sadly slithered across her neck. Iris felt sympathy for the little snake though, and wanted to help. Going to Heaven was something that was supposed to make people happy, but if the snake would be happier in Hell with his master…
“If she is in Hell, she needs you, alright? She’s counting on you.”
Fluffy nodded and Iris gently let him go. Slowly, he drifted down to Hell, aided by Iris’ guidance. He slithered downwards into Hell and quickly bolted over to where he heard the tortured screams of his master.
“Hey Lisha,” Iris said, calling her sister in Hell. “I’ve got a little guy on the way down; he’s a snake named Fluffy. I need you to take him to his master. She should be the only Hawthorne down there.”
