“Where to next, Phie?” Maria asked. The two walked through the mall glancing at the stores left and right.
“What looks good to you, Mar?” Sophie said with a smile.
“Can we get coffee? I need to warm up.”
“I’m getting hot chocolate.” she laughed, giving a bit of a shiver. “September is still just freezing.”
Sophie and Maria went into a coffee shop and ordered their drinks. Sophie glanced and could’ve sworn that she saw Maria’s mom hiding somewhere. She put an arm around Maria and held her close, as if afraid she was going to go away.
“Something wrong?” Maria asked, concerned. Sophie smiled and gave her a tight hug, rubbing her face into Maria’s thick sweater.
“No, I’m just cold and you’re so warm.” she giggled. “Come on, our drinks are ready.”
The two of them grabbed their drinks and walked out of the shop into the open air. They shuddered as the frosty cold bit their noses.
“Man, it really is freezing…” Maria shivered.
“Here then, Mar,” Sophie grinned, giving a small kiss on Maria’s cheek, surprising her. “That warm you up?”
“Y-yeah.” she blushed. “A lot w-warmer.”
