Affection level??
Affection level...!!!
Thoughts of the methods that Su Yi might use to raise said level flashed through his mind, and a green shadow overcame his facial features for a moment; it was something he didn't want to think about, nor did he want to be there to witness any of it. Besides, he still wasn't entirely sure what affection level had to do with extracting the soul fragment from the world's capture target. When you think about it, they were two entirely different things... weren't they?
Without saying a word of farewell to Su Yi, the system exited her mind space once more and made his way to where the lord system would usually live. Maybe there he could figure this whole thing out.
Disorientation struck Su Yi like a bolt out of nowhere, and she was glad she was still sitting. Otherwise, she was certain that she would have collapsed right there and then. The cause of her dizziness and unease was obvious to her, as she could tell that the system had once again left her mind, and had wandered off somewhere else.
She had little time to wonder where he had disappeared to because Jun had interrupted her thoughts by calling her name.
Returning to reality, Su Yi raised her head and met his concerned eyes with his own.
"Is something wrong?" The words he spoke matched with what the system had asked earlier and the similarity between the two men was even more obvious.
They were the same... Yet, she couldn't figure out why this was so. Had the system also noticed this, and that was why he had left to go somewhere else. Was he avoiding it, or had he gone to question the higher-ups about what was happening? Either way, there wasn't much she could do, except for taking care of her injured body and figuring out how she could extract the fragment from Jun.
"I'm fine," she opened her mouth to answer him. Although she was still in thinking mode, she paid more attention to the man in front of her. "I was just thinking about some things. You don't have to worry about me, and also thank you..."
Jun chuckled and sat beside her on the bed. His wide smile set her heart racing, and he said, "there's no need to thank me. I'm just doing what I should as your friend." He stood back up again and opened the suitcase that had been placed on the floor. "I need to go out for a moment to complete some things. Hurry and pack. If you need anything, I'll just be outside."
Without waiting for her to answer, he took his phone out of his pocket and exited the room.
Through the gap in the door, Su Yi could see that her mother was still standing outside. It seemed like she hadn't taken a step away from the door since Jun had kicked her out, and her glare was enough to penetrate through her daughter's entire being; like she wished she could do it in real life.
Jun shut the door, and his voice could be heard from outside, albeit muffled, so it wasn't clear what was being said. The mother's voice had turned shrill and her complaints were left unheard. Then it became quiet outside, and Su Yi assumed that her mother had been sent away.
Now that she was alone, Su Yi had some time to mull over things with no distractions.
As she started to pack, she thought about many things, like what the system was doing, about her life in this world, and how she was going to extract the fragment from Jun's body. She folded up some clothes and placed them in the suitcase, but an image flashing in her head made her straighten up.
Before, she had been preoccupied with many things and hadn't had time to focus on what was above the capture target's head. In the dialogue box, there had been a title that said 'affection level'.
What was that, exactly? Did she have to raise that level for it to be easier to remove the fragment? How were the two related?
[I can answer that...] a voice sounded in her mind. [According to the other systems, this is something new that has recently been implemented. The higher the affection level, the higher the percentage of the soul fragment extraction will be. Nobody knows why this was added, nor what the two have to do with one another, but it has to be done.]
[System, you're back!] A smile bloomed on Su Yi's face when she felt the system's presence in her mind space. [So, for this to work, I have to get close to the target and raise his affection for me?]
The system gritted his teeth, and a green tint had tainted his dark irises. [That's right. It might not be easy, but it's what you have to do.]
[I understand.] Su Yi nodded inwardly, and her smile faded slightly. [If it'll make things go more smoothly, and will mean finishing the task quicker, I'll do whatever needs to be done.]
The door opening again interrupted the pair's conversation, and they both turned to see Jun entering the room. "Everything's done? Come on, let's go."
He stepped forward and wrapped her up in a coat and scarf. "It's gotten colder outside, so you need to cover up more. You'll be in the car soon, so you'll warm up soon enough."
Su Yi just nodded and allowed him to take her hand, while his other one held the handle of the suitcase.
They made their way down the stairs, and were just about to leave the house when a voice spoke from behind them: "Su Yi, who said you could leave?"
Turning back, Su Yi and Jun came face to face with her father. A dark aura poured out of his pores, and his complexion grew redder by the minute. Beside him, her mother could be seen. A sly grin hung on her crimson lips.
