I didn’t want my visit to be over, but all good things must come to an end, right? Nah, I didn’t believe that. It was only an interlude before the symphony began, of course.
I took Naylin’s hair tie out of my pocket and ran my fingers over the soft fabric, thinking of the beautiful music of love she sent to me so often. It had carved such a glorious place in my heart that it beat in pain at the thought of anything happening to her. Even now, as the breeze wafted up hints of her scent from the fabric in my hands, I could feel my heart tighten.
Julius. Shye seemed serious as she addressed me.
I sighed inwardly and looked up at the clouds. The puffy brightness of the sky and the refreshing spring breeze were calming.
“Yes, Shye?” I asked.
Garak’s crony is in the shadows of the alley across the street. He’s breathing hard, so I suspect he’s planning something.
I took note of the alleyway in question as I looked down from the sky and saw the darker form inside of the shadows. Sure enough, he was there.
Suggestion? There was a lilt in Shye’s voice as she tittered.
“Of course, my sweet,” I told her.
Awaken Tabby for guard duty, Julius.
I leaned against the door frame and scratched my arm as I watched village life going on down at the end of the pathway. There were vendors hustling, children screaming in play, women gossiping, and men laughing heartily. A small group of children dodged around a corner and blew past me, shrieking their laughter as they chased one another.
“That’s a good idea,” I muttered under my breath as I avoided the alley with my eyes.
Of course it is, Shye said.
I could almost imagine the smug look in her eye.
