Everyn remained seated on a boulder with her head overlooking a large platter of raw deer meat that had been placed out by the elders in the middle of the cave.
A group of youngsters had come out to play, as they frolicked on top of one another to show off their dominance with their wings out. They snapped and nipped at one another, as a few of them tumbled down a side of rocks hissing.
“Children.” Kasai who had entered within the cave had his head lowered towards the red meat with his eyes fixated on the youngsters who now had stopped their rough play. “Eat.”
They hunched themselves down, and slowly moved in step by step towards the meal. They looked up to Kasai briefly, before slamming their faces into the meat without another peep from their mouths.
“Will you be not joining them?” Kasai had asked, as he eyed Everyn who had her eyes peered elsewhere towards the outside of the cave. “Do you want to see the outside?”
Everyn shook her head that she did not. This was her home, where else would she be.
“I heard what the elders said about the humans. Are they that cruel?” Everyn questioned, and Kasai held a contempt expression on his face.
He shook his massive head, “Do not listen to the elders. In this world, there are both good and evil. I want you to keep that in mind.” He lifted his claws up before he snagged the ends of Everyns clothes and picked her up, and then placed her by the meat. “Eat, while you can.”
Everyn placed her hands upon the red bloodied meat, as her stomach churned. Even after all these years, she was still not use to raw meat. The cold, flabby feeling within her fingertips made her want to throw it across the cave floor. Yet, she picked up a chunk with her hand, and placed her face up against it and then took a bite out of it till she was satisfied.
“If it is not to your liking, I can have one of my men to find you something to your favor.” he motioned, as he too cut a large enough chunk and threw it up in the air and swallowed it.
Everyn was thankful to the gesture, but she already felt like a burden already as it was. She could not ask Kasai to do this for her. “No. I am alright.”
“Come play with us.” The youngsters complained, as they had now surrounded Everyn with their large eyes looking up at her with their wings now tucked away.
She turned to Kasai who gave one nod to allow her to do as she pleased. “Thank you, Kasai.” Everyn stated, before she ran with the youngsters further into the cave where there were more open areas for them to roll around, and play.
Everyn held one of the youngsters down by the wing and they yipped a little with pain, before she fell backwards by their weight. Her head felt a bit dizzy from the roll, as she adjusted herself up. She really yearned to go outside for some reason, as the youngsters continued to play around her. Her eyes could not be averted from the entrance of the cave.
Could she ask them? No.
The elders have always instilled the thought that humans are bad, and they were the reason behind the deaths of their loved ones. How could Every ask such a thing?
