In this world, before the 5 realms were formed, there was a woman proclaimed to be the ruler of dragons named Everyn. She had been betrayed not once in her life, but three times. Twice by the person she loved, and the third by the child she raised as her own.
She stood alone and detached, her soul in agony with the thought she would have to cut off the heads of her beloved.
“You weakling.” the voices would whisper to her over and over again. Her mind blanked and her hands shook uncontrollably on the blade she held. She wanted to protect life, but the irony of it all, was she too took away life as instantly with one flick of her fingers.
“How hypocritical.” they would whisper to her right, then to the left. “You would send us to your dirty work, when you yourself cannot do the deed.” they would mock her.
They were right. She would pity all the orphans that were created by her mess, and on the other hand she would wipe away any village to feed the shadow 6th that walked behind her back.
Her head slightly tilted back, and her eyes peering upwards at the already fallen sky, she felt her throat tighten as the smell of death lingered on.
How many more would have to die to feed this hunger and make these voices stop?
She then readjusted herself just enough to pull up her hands, as the trinket on her wrist clanked side to side. Nothing extraordinary, but simply ordinary by a simple bangle of silver that wrapped around her wrist. It was the only memento she was left with as a baby. She was thrown away. Abandoned, and unloved.
Where did she belong?
Her frustration continued to mount, before her own body weight shifted to those below her. She squinted her eyes within the darkness just enough to make out the scaly nest.
A large head of scales, propping itself upwards before it too opened its jaw revealing a large row of sharp jagged teeth. It clenched its jaws open and close several times, before its closed eyes, propped open. A pristine pair of blue staring back at her, before it lifted its head, creating a shadow to mask the moon from her. The blue scales reverberated, as the beast moved. Its tail slammed against a boulder on the right, and its body weight shifted, eyes widening when the objects below it too shifted. Shoving and pushing, before a few different auras of light blasted from each mouth. A huge ball of lizard like beasts all together in this tight spot of what was nothing more than a cave with her who stood on top to rule over them.
A throne.
Everyn felt herself tumble within this nest of scales, before she fell right into the hands of one. A red flame ignited, and the whole nest became a ray of ash and smoke. It shrieked, as it shook its body weight, and slammed its head against a beast close to her. It bit down on another, before the caves loose rocks began to fall upon them. Panic echoed, as the few pinned underneath, managed to free themselves. They extended out their beautiful silky, leather wings and took off through the opening of the cave. It brought quite a strong gust of wind, that she used her hand to cover he eyes form the dust. Meanwhile, her hair of red apple swayed and her eyes adjusted once more to the beast that had lunged up then down towards the earth below.
The beast with all four legs now solidly on the floor, turned to Everyn in concern. “You hurt?”
The girl shook her head. “No.”
“Those fools, know full well that you could get crushed.” He grumbled with his mouth slightly ajar to reveal his teeth through the small gape.
Everyn thankful to the gesture, could only shake her head, “It is alright. I am not one of you, so I know full well that I shouldn’t be here to begin with.” Using the palms of her hand, she rubbed the scales of the beast who in turn took in each stroke like a dog.
The dragon lifted its head abruptly to something in the air, and as Everyn had feared perhaps it was the mortals. “Are they coming, Kasai?”
He quickly placed her lightly onto the floor to merely whisper out, “fire.” He opened his two lovely massive wings, and then without a thought took off through the opening, leaving Everyn behind.
Just as she had feared retaliation was the only option. With her pillaging nearby villages to feed the 6th shadow, it only made sense that the mortals would come after her.
“Wait!” Everyn managed to bellow out, before the dragon had already vanished from view.
She was queen, then why did he leave her?
“Poor thing.” the voices began once more. Her hands over her face, as she attempted to block them from her mind.
“STOP!” She demanded, but the voices continued to mock her.
“You aren’t wanted. You aren’t needed.” They said, and she rolled her hand into a fist and then with all the strength she had, hit herself.
“Perhaps, a better way of handling this would do?” A gentler voice had taken place over the shadows, and to her surprise she didn’t hear them any longer.
“I don’t hear them anymore.” She said, with her head now cucked up to see a brilliant shimmer of gold that had made their presence known.
“You are cursed.”
Everyn denied those words. “What are you talking about?”
“A human that isn’t human that walks among humans. Interesting. A being that should not exist, yet exists between the planes of both the heavenly realm and the mortal realm.” They seemed intrigued.
“And what of you? You are nothing more than a horse? What right do you have to judge me? What do you know of me?” Everyn added with such snide that the glistening beast had stepped away from the shimmer to reveal his four legs, and mane and tail to her.
“You see me as a simple horse, but perhaps you are the one that needs to step a tad bit closer.” The horse snickered and laughed. “To your eyes I may be a simpleton, but I can assure you, I too walk among the greats.”
Everyn could only think of one creature that could walk between multiple dimensions. “The Razu.”
“The Ruler of the World.” She said, and the horse lifted its head up to those words proudly.
“Do you truly plan to wage war? Not only against the heavens, but against the mortals?” The Razu asked curiously.
Everyn didn’t waver, and maintained her gaze at the horse. “They were the ones that started this, not me.” She felt the rage surging within her. “They were the ones that hurt me and betrayed me.”
The Razu who did not understand, simply shook his head. “Your anger is justified, but the way you handle it, is not. You too would stoop to their level to make a point.”
“Hah. Do you honestly think the so-called heavens would protect those weaker than themselves? They are no different from me, when it comes to desire and greed.” Everyn seemed sure that these words would make the point, and the Razu looked at her with such defeated eyes.
“A person that chose power over love, and a person that chose love over power.” The Razu stated. “It is a tragedy in the making.”
Everyn pushed that aside, even if there was truth to those words. Both her hands pointed at the entrance of the cave, she gestured for the Razu to leave.
“I myself would have stepped forward to bring you down, but it seems those above have other plans. I can only persuade you; the rest is up to your own vices.” The Razu lowered their head, before turning away. He probably had hoped this conversation would have been fruitful, but it was not.
Kasai had not returned yet, and it seemed there was not much time. Her fingers stroked along her lower lip, and she whistled.
“Mizu.” She commanded, and the lakes and rivers within the forest moved before a beast struck itself out of the water.
A blue scaled dragon slapped its own wings within the water, before taking off and gliding towards Everyn. He landed just a few hundred feet from her, before arching his neck down towards the ground.
“You called?” He asked with his annoyed voice.
“Yes. Kasai had gone to inspect the outer lands, and has not returned. He had said that there was a fire.” Everyn threw her legs over the back of the beast, and slid herself on.
Mizu lifted his head, and with his wings open, began to run towards the entrance of the cave and took off towards the sky to see what looked to be smoke in the air.
The mortals had started a fire, and down below she could see a few specks, that had combined to become larger ones. It seems they had all gathered here to take her down. This was not what she wanted, but she had no choice.
Soon the heavens will take part in her fall as well, which meant they both would be here to fight against her.
Everyn felt her chest tighten to the thought that lingered to what went wrong between the three of them. If only he wasn’t greedy, and if only she wasn’t manipulated to partake in Everyns downfall.
If only he had chosen to love her... It seemed all those thoughts were for not, as she watched a glistening steed of white with two beautiful feathered wings glide down towards the mortals down below.
“Titanus.” She murmured, while her eyes focused onto the man she loved.
He carried an air about him that seemed untouchable. His intricately lined golden armor with several finely chiseled silver lines and a golden helmet with a beautiful white feather on the back with his posture straight and seated upon his steed.
Why did he kill her back then?
