Ashton's POV:
Embarrassment.
That's the only thing that coursed through my body when I realized that I came in my underwear like a premature pup. Obviously, I didn't have much experience with sex or anything of that nature because we weren't allowed those pleasures and none of us wanted them anyway.
Sure, during my ruts I would experience orgasms, but they didn't feel that great because my body craved for another wolf to be there with me. It was uncomfortable and awkward until the rut faded and I was edgy for the following days until I was entirely past it.
So, when I played with Sage's body and made him come, it didn't surprise me that hearing him and experience intimacy made me come, too, but it was still embarrassing.
Especially since he noticed.
My plan was to run to the bathroom and pretend I finished myself off, but Sage stopped me and reassured me like the incredible mate he is.
Now, we're laying in the bed and cuddling because we're both recovering from that moment and I just want to hold him and embrace my mate.
"Get up," Sage murmurs after about a half an hour of lazing around. "Come on, Ashton, get up."
I groan. "Why? We don't have anything to do today!"
Sage bites my arm and it surprises me and causes me jump away. He sits up once I'm off of him and opens the window, letting light flood inside.
"Let's go on a run! It's cool out and I love the fall season," he begs, looking out the window longingly. "Come on, Ash... don't you want to keep your mate happy?"
Like he can stay mad at me.
I sigh and get up. "Fine, only for you," I mutter, going to the bathroom and looking at my messy hair in disgust. "I need my hair to get cut."
"I think it looks nice," Sage says, running his hand through my messy hair that is getting long enough that it could probably be pulled back. "Whatever you want to do with it."
We go downstairs and step into the backyard in just our underwear and sweaters. Of course, I start blushing when Sage strips and shifts, but I shift before bed can see me.
I had always thought that Omegas had a tendency to blush and be shy, but I am very much the one who blushes the most in our couple. Not that I have a problem with it, but it's a little embarrassing sometimes when Sage says something mildly cute and I turn into a flustered mess.
There's times where I'm able to make him blush and I love those cute little moments, but he almost always has the upper hand on me.
It's rather cold out, but I enjoy it and I can tell Sage does, too. In fact, he's already trotting around the yard and rolling around in the fallen leaves, playing like a pup.
I walk out to the area where he's rolling around and then he hops up and rubs his nose and face against my neck before taking off again and expecting me to follow him.
We run through the woods to the clearing where I found Ainsley laying when she forgave me. It's a nice area and all of the fall colors are gorgeous around us. Of course, we run around and I tackle Sage, but I know I only catch him because he lets me. Not only is Sage one of the best warriors in the pack, but he's also got the natural gift of speed that he's told me Omegas are blessed with.
In most traditional and old time packs, Omegas would run when threatened, and they're naturally quick to get away from danger or find someone to protect them. However, in this pack, it makes it even easier for them to fight because they can stay out of the jaws of their attackers and keep them off balance.
Sage is currently laying beside me, licking at his paw and biting on it; it's something he tends to do when in his wolf form, though I'm not sure why.
I'm admiring the area around us and occasionally scent Sage when I get bored of looking around. I honestly just love to relish in his presence and scenting him has become one of my favorite things to do.
It's just another way to show intimacy, it calms my inner Alpha, and my mate absolutely loves it. I can't deny him anything, so whenever we lay down at night for bed and he gives me those shy eyes and lays his head back, revealing his neck, I can't deny him.
I lay my chin over his back and start to let out pleased grumbles when we hear a loud howl.
Both Sage and I are up in an instant because that howl was not just to call out to us.
It's a distress call to the warriors, as Sage taught me.
We share a nervous look before we take off, Sage a few feet in front of me because he's fast as hell. When we get back to the pack, I am immediately brought back to the night that Sage saved me; there's wolves fighting and I catch the familiar scent of blood and I feel myself panic.
My panic heightens when I see Sage dive into the fight and attack an Alpha who is way bigger than him, but I push past my fear when I see how he takes advantage.
An Alpha that I recognize as one of our old leaders corners an Omega that smells familiar. Everyone else is distracted, so I jump into the fight and tackle him to the ground.
He's stronger than me, but I have a bit of training and I know that I can hold him off so the Omega can escape. As soon he tries to bite me, I move and manage to get my claws in his shoulder and make him yelp in surprise and slash back, getting a good cut into my side.
The pain flashes through me, but I ignore it and fight back, biting his neck but not getting the right spot that'll kill him. He manages to gets another scratch on me and I feel blood drip down my side and he seems surprised that I keep fighting. As long as he's trying to get around me to hurt the Omega, I'll continue to fight back and make sure to protect the wolves who I couldn't protect in the past.
I know he was expecting me to be weaker because he definitely recognizes me. There's a hateful glint in his eyes and he is constantly snarling, as if trying to shame me for escaping.
An unfamiliar howl bursts through the pack and before I can attack again, he runs off and heads toward the woods. There's a group of our warriors who follow, including Ronaldo, and I check to make sure the Omega that I was protecting is alright.
Sage rushes over to my side, and I guess he wasn't directed to follow the other wolves or he doesn't care to and wants to help back here. He doesn't have a scratch on him and he goes to check my sides and must notice they're not extremely dangerous to me because he doesn't try to shove me in the direction of the doctor.
Hazel rushes toward us, already back in her human form, and throws a bag of clothes at our feet.
Both Sage and I shift back and change, and once we're done, Sage goes over to the Omega whom I protected and helps him to change into clothes once he shifts back, hiding him from the view of the other wolves.
"Charlie!" Nolan, the ambassador, exclaims, rushing over to us.
That's where I recognize his mate from; he's the one who escaped from my old pack and the one who spends time with Sage when Nolan works with Hazel and I work with Alder.
"Oh my goddess, I was so scared," Nolan says in exasperation, hugging his mate and putting his hand on his stomach. "Are you alright?!"
Charlie nods, his breathing heavy as he tries to relax. "I'm okay," he whispers. "The baby is okay, too. We're both okay..."
"Sage, thank you so much," Nolan says, holding Charlie tight to his chest.
Sage shakes his head. "It wasn't me," he tells him, nudging my arm. "Ashton saved him."
"Thank you so much," Nolan says to me. "Only two of our own are severely injured, but they're with the doctor and hopefully they can stabilize the two. We killed one of theirs, and there's a group of ours that have smaller injuries."
"Yes, and speaking of, we need to get you patched up," Sage says, looking at my sides. "Those cuts are sort of deep."
Charlie pulls away from his mate. "I have nurse training. I can patch those up so the doctors can focus on our severely injured pack mates," he says, and I accept because I just want our pack mates to pull through.
"Please tell me we injured the attackers," Sage says to Nolan. "I killed the one that I attacked with Owen's help, but it didn't last long and they ran right after he fell."
Nolan shrugs. "They caught us by surprise and attacked the Omega house, but the group was only five people and from what we know, they usually kidnap, but they were looking to kill." His eyes flash to his mate, who could have been a victim if I hadn't gotten in the way.
Charlie doesn't speak as he cleans my wounds, and I don't have anything to say, so I sit on the bar stool in silence so he can get to the injuries. He patches them up and I notice him wearing long gloves so he doesn't accidentally spread his scent on me because that could create animosity between him and Sage.
"Alright... those should heal pretty quick, but check them tomorrow morning in case they need to be redone," he says in his quiet voice before he retreats to the couch to lay down.
Hazel and Alder walk in through the front door with Zach, Owen, and Ronaldo accompanying them. Matthew and Pauline are in the kitchen with Pauline wrapping a wound on her mate's hand.
"You four, my office, please," Hazel says, and she doesn't stop as she enters the room and sits down at her desk. "Before the attack, I got a call from Alpha Bay of the Easter Mountain pack. He warned me that they were attacked by a small group of Alphas late last night and three Omegas were killed. Thankfully, our pack mates are stable, but this is not a coincidence."
Owen, Ronaldo, and I all nod our heads in agreement.
"I recognized the leader of that group," Ronaldo says. "He was one of the leaders under our Alpha."
"He's the one who called them off. We returned because we were worried that another ambush could be coming," Zach says, sighing in annoyance. "This didn't happen in the past, did it, baby?"
Owen shakes his head, looking to myself and Ronaldo. "We never attacked. It was always raids and ambushes and they were meant to be as quiet as possible so that we wouldn't be stopped."
"Nolan, I want you, Sage, and Ashton to meet with the Alpha of the Eastern Mountain pack and discuss their strategy and help their pack. Charlie will stay here with Alder."
Charlie doesn't look pleased. "Please, Alpha, I don't want to be separated from him..." he begs, and Hazel gives him a piteous look.
"Darling, we need Nolan to go, as he has a great relationship with the Alpha and is our ambassador to that pack and it's too dangerous for you to travel without proper backup and warriors," she says piteously. "They won't be gone long."
Charlie keeps pouting.
"Mom, Ashton and I could go without him," Sage says, but she's firm on her orders and it quiets my mate instantly.
"I'll be home soon, Charlie," Nolan whispers in his ear, even though everyone can hear it. "The Luna will keep you safe."
Alder gives Charlie a kind smile, which the Omega shyly returns but we all know he'd rather be with his mate, even if it means running for hours.
"We should go," Nolan tells Sage and I. "They always have clothes for us, so we don't need to pack and should leave as soon as possible."
"Agreed," Sage says, hugging both of his parents. "Let's get going."
