“No, please!” Scarlet cried as Lauren was being taken away from her by her mother. Blake and Juliet laughed at their cousin while Vanessa rolled her eyes. “Come on, leave Lauren’s arm.” Carla spoke impatiently as she tried to make the dark-haired woman let go of her daughter’s arm.
“No, I can’t live without her!”
“Darling, it’s only for a little while.” Laura came to comfort her daughter but it was of no use as Scarlet shook her head whilst holding onto Lauren’s arm with both of her hands.
Lauren kept giggling at how cute her fiancé looked begging like this, but she had already accepted their fate. They could not stay together till the wedding, it’d be a bad omen.
“Can’t we just stay in different rooms, that’d be better, right?” She begged nonetheless as she glanced from her own mother to the mother of her lover.
Carla gave her a bored look before pushing away her hands. “No, I don’t want you to ruin my daughter’s wedding with bad omens.”
“For God’s sake, it’s my wedding too!” Scarlet exclaimed as she threw her hands in the air out of exasperation. “Yes, and since it is, you both need to stay apart till the fateful day.”
She pouted as she looked at Lauren, trying to find a way to at least make the blonde woman take her side, “It’ll be okay, we can call each oth—”
Lauren was cut off by her own mother who shook a finger towards the two, “No calling.”
“Uh, maybe we’ll just text.” Carla sighed before shaking her head again. “What part of no communication and staying apart don’t you both understand?”
“No, I am not going along with this!” Scarlet yelled before she tightly wrapped her arms around her fiancé’s waist, not letting go at all. Carla stared at the two with frustration as she called for a solution, “Stewart!”
Stewart came into the living room with a small pudding cup in his hand and a spoon in his mouth. He looked like he was enjoying his small dessert.
“Put that down and come help me here!” It didn’t take him long to throw his pudding cup towards Blake, who immediately began to eat it, as he came towards the two women; out of which one of them was whining like a child while the other kept giggling as if she had been the happiest.
“Come on, Scarlet, the sooner you let go, the sooner she’ll come back to you.” Stewart spoke as he began to unclasp Scarlet’s hands from his sister’s waist.
“It’s no use, she’s as stubborn as her father.” Laura crossed her arms as she sighed in frustration. “Hey! I heard that!” Andrew yelled from the kitchen where he and the other Payne men were busy washing the dishes.
“Should we bring the secret weapon then?” Juliet smirked, which got her a glare from her older cousin, who was still not letting Lauren go.
Laura gave the woman a look of confusion as Juliet got up from the sofa and went to the living room’s entrance. “Don’t you dare, Juliet.” Scarlet practically screamed as she watched her younger cousin take in a long breath.
“Grandma!!”
Scarlet was immediately away from the blonde woman, and everyone around them wondered why just the mention of her grandmother had caused this.
“What is it now, you brats?!” The old woman rolled out of her room and into the living room with a frown on her face, and a stick in her lap. Scarlet gulped in fear just from the sight.
“Scarlet isn’t letting Lauren go with her mother.” Juliet pointed towards her older cousin as if mentioning her wasn’t enough, she had to point out the culprit too.
Grandma Payne turned to Scarlet, who shook her head frantically. “She’s lying.”
“Oh, don’t you dare say that she’s the one lying, you liar.” Stewart smacked Scarlet on the back of her head, which made Lauren giggle again. She was somehow enjoying all that was happening around her, even when everything was happening against Scarlet’s and her own will.
“Come here, child.” Grandma Payne ordered Scarlet, who glared at Juliet before going over to her grandmother. There was a moment of silence and recognition before Scarlet’s whines were heard as she complained about how the old woman was embarrassing her in front of her fiancé by hitting her with her stick.
“You deserve it.” Grandma Payne concluded as she smacked Scarlet with her stick again. The woman could only groan in displeasure before giving her cousin and Stewart separate glares.
The two looked away from their glaring cousin instantly, as if completely ignoring her presence. “Now, since that’s all done, go pack up Lauren’s bags up, Stewart.” Carla ordered her son, who gave his mother a look of disbelief.
“She has two perfectly functioning hands, why can’t she do that herself?!”
Only a sharp look was enough to make Stewart climb down those steps with a groan of displeasure, while Lauren enjoyed everything that was happening around her.
The whiny – now pouting – fiancé, the slave brother, the controlling mother. She didn’t know what about her situation was so exciting to her, but she couldn’t deny how everything made her happier and not the other way around.
“You look quite happy being separated from your idiot.” Juliet commented from the sofa as she pointed at Lauren’s wide smile, who shook her head in response before looking at the red-head.
“Hey, how dare you call me an idiot!” Scarlet snapped as she looked at Juliet, offended by the name-call. But, she was ignored by everyone as Lauren replied.
“I’m just happy to have such great people around me.”
The blonde immediately got the consequences of her answer.
“Yeah, and you still didn’t invite me to your wedding. I had to find out from my spies.” Carla held Lauren’s left ear between her fingers as she glared at her daughter, who gave a sheepish smile in response.
“Yeah, what kind of daughter does that?” Blake chimed in from the carpet as he looked at Lauren with a frown. The blonde gave him a tight-lipped smile as the other man didn’t get the signal. “If I were in your place, Carla, I’d delay this wedding a whole year!”
Everyone in the living room turned to look at the crazy man sitting on the carpet licking pudding off of his spoon, as if he had definitely gone mad.
“Can I please kill him?” Scarlet looked at her mother, who gave her daughter a shrug. “Ask his mother, it’s a yes from me.”
Blake looked at his aunt in disbelief as Laura walked out of the living room. “Uncle Andrew, aunt Laura just gave Scarlet permission to kill me!”
“Stop making all that ruckus, boy!” Grandma Payne exclaimed as she was disturbed from her sudden slumber. She was getting that weird habit of falling asleep everywhere and it was quite hard to handle sometimes.
“If I were you, I’d shut the hell up.” Scarlet muttered after coming close to her cousin, as she shot him a devilish smile. “Besides, wouldn’t want anything to happen to this pretty face of yours, now would we?”
Blake gulped as he saw the raw intent in her eyes, as she draped an arm over his shoulder. “N-No, ma’am.”
“Good.”
“Lauren, I didn’t pack your important stuff.” Stewart came back into the living room with a large suitcase being dragged behind him. Lauren gave him a frown as she wondered what he had even said.
“Important stuff?” Blake wondered aloud.
“Yes, stuff that is important but I can’t mention it in front of everyone.” Stewart answered Blake’s question.
“Oh my god, I am surrounded by idiots.” Carla muttered as she sent Lauren to pack whatever Stewart left behind while Scarlet rolled her eyes at Blake as well as Stewart.
And here she thought that no one could be as stupid as Blake, but Stewart was equally as stupid as him.
“Sister-in-law, remember to get work done on that magazine.” Stewart spoke up to the dark-haired woman, who groaned loudly. “I’m gonna leave Clark here for you, so he can help you out.”
As if on cue, Clark peeked his head into the living room, wondering if anyone called him. “Ah, there’s the man.” Stewart happily signaled Clark over, who gave the other man a doubtful stare.
“Please help your boss here on the magazine.” The older man spoke up as he wrapped an arm around Clark’s shoulders, while Scarlet rolled her eyes at them both.
“Uh, okay.”
“Good, good.”
“Come on, where is that girl?” Carla was getting impatient as she began to tap her foot on the living room floor. Taking this as an opportunity, Scarlet smiled at her soon-to-be mother-in-law, as she volunteered to go get Lauren.
“I’ll go get her.” Before anyone could protest, Scarlet was out of the living room and practically sprinting to the basement where all her and Lauren’s stuff was.
“Hah, that child is still so disobedient.” Grandma Payne smirked as she looked at Laura, who could only shake her head with a chuckle.
“I think she gets that from her grandma.”
.............................
Down at the basement, Lauren was mumbling to herself as she packed up all of her important stuff that consisted of all her toiletries and underwear. “I don’t know why I got an idiot as a brother.”
“Well, I have idiots as cousins, so that seems to balance things out between us.” Lauren turned around to see that her fiancé was stood standing in the doorway with a smile on her face.
“Did they let you come down here to help me?” Lauren chuckled as she turned back around to pack up her remaining stuff.
“Uh, well, something like that.” Lauren giggled as she heard Scarlet’s response which answered all her questions.
The dark-haired woman came over to where Lauren was, as she looked at her fiancé with a pout. “I don’t want you to go.”
The blonde rolled her eyes as she turned her head to give the other woman a reassuring smile. “We’ll be back together even before you know it.”
“Yes, but I’ll have to bear through family time, and that stupid magazine work, and I don’t know if I can handle all that without you here.” Scarlet grumbled as she wrapped her arms around Lauren’s waist, who only hummed as a response.
“I don’t want to go too, but you don’t know my mother.” The blonde spoke as she zipped up the bag she was packing up, before turning to face her fiancé. Scarlet was pouting as she glared at the floor.
Lauren had to admit that being away from the other woman made her sad, even if it was for a while, but seeing Scarlet right now made her happy. She was happy because she felt loved, and that was enough for her to go on with what her mother was telling her to do.
“Cheer up, we’ll get to meet at the wedding day.” Lauren tried to reassure the woman, who frowned as she looked at her. “That’s like, I don’t even know, when.”
Lauren laughed as she placed a palm over the dark-haired woman’s cheek.
“It’ll be okay, we’ll have all the time in the world after that. You won’t be going anywhere after we say our vows to each other.” Scarlet smirked as she wrapped her arms around the other woman’s waist.
“I should be the one saying that, Mrs. Payne-Grayson.” Lauren giggled before she pecked Scarlet’s cheek, before embracing the woman lovingly.
