Class ended uneventful. Besides the full sprint out the door. Looking back as the hall fills with other students my eyebrows raise, he was tailing me, what in the hell? Rounding the corner out into the courtyard I’m tackled into the grass cursing loudly as my fingers dig into the dirt to scramble forward and back onto my feet.
“No slut to save you this time Bareback.” The sharp dig of his heel digging into my back a harsh pain shooting through my spine as his lackies held me down. “Now,” He pauses tapping his finger against his chin in thought. Stepping around to stand in front me. “What to do about you?” He hums planting his shoe against my skull and keeping me buried into the dirt.
A mechanical click reaches our ears, through the dirt I could see a young woman in the deep blue security attire her voice sharp as she shouted.
“Hands up!” Lifting their hands, Jacksons foot pushes my head deeper into the dirt. “You get up.” Her taser pointed dangerously towards the three idiots. Pushing off the ground, my glasses askew as I stumble to my feet. The security guard grabbing my arm to help me upright.
“Stay out of this.” Jackson growled out his teeth gritted as he lowered his arms. “Do you know who I am? My Father will hear about this.”
Her taser rises and with-it Jackson’s arms move back up a look of anger flattened against a sharp smirk.
“Mr. Parker if that’s a threat I need you to turn around and walk away.” Her eyes never leave his as she pulls her hadn away from my arm to train the taser. His eyebrows raised as his tan skin paled, eyes glued to the taser before looking to his lackies.
“Fine, Fine! Keep an eye over your shoulder Mercer!” Walking back a few steps he turns and takes off, the others following close behind.
“Thank you.” Placing my hand over my back, I try to rub away the pain. “Man, my back is killing me.” I mumble stretching a bit as the woman turns to face me.
“No problem, I heard horror stories about that ‘Golden Child.’ But didn’t think he was that bad.” Placing her taser in its holster tight against her side as she motions towards her collar. Only then did I notice the small camera hanging next to the top collar button. That would explain the pale look against his features. “I’m Ruby Fairwell and you are?”
“Newton, Newton Mercer.” I respond her hand raising for me to shake which is quick as my phone vibrates loudly against my back pocket. “Excuse me.” Pulling back, I take out my phone eyes landing on the unknown number that in quick almost illegible text asking me to hurry back.
For a long minute I’m confused before looking back over to Ruby, who is fixing her deep tangerine dyed hair, deep brown roots underneath.
“I got to get going, but thanks again.” I quickly wave her off and she nods giving me a thumbs up and walking off. Pocketing my phone, I make my way back to my room. Fixing my crooked glasses as I reach the door. Taking out the keycard, I swipe it. “I got lucky this time… Something’s got to be done.” Stepping inside, the smell of weed floats into the hall. Groaning I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Damn, seriously Derek? Could have gone somewhere else?” I grumbled pushing the door which seemed to be a lot harder than it usually was.
Looking around the room, the utter disarray of blankets and scattered objects over the room. Looking behind the door my eyes widen at the sight of Derek’s mattress up against it. Pushing it out of the way a bit I close the door and look towards the open window.
“What happened? Derek?” I don’t even see Derek, his tail though making itself damn known. Wrapping around my jean leg tightly as I stepped into, the center of the room. Tripping me forward my hands grip my mattress which I’m surprised hadn’t been touched beside the missing blankets. “SHIT?!” Laying on my stomach I look to where the tail had been coming out of. Under my bed, within the huddle of my blankets his wide eyes filled with fear.
‘What the hell?’
Moving to sit up his tail yanks me back, nearly taking my leg completely under the bed.
“Okay, Okay shit…”
‘What in the hell happened in here? I’ve never seen him this scared before.’
My thoughts where whirling as my eyes drew to his fingers that gripped my pantleg. Caked in crimson those usually cleared tips were shaking as I take his hand.
“Okay, hey. What happened?” I don’t know why but I don’t pull my leg back, just letting him move to lay his head on the lower part of my leg. His shoulders that were raised on high alert sunk slightly. By this point a good quarter of my body is under the bed with him, the upper half leaned back uncomfortable to look at him. “Are you going to explain? Or will I have to come down there and ask?”
That seemed to catch him as a name slipped from his lips.
“Garrett, he has- had the missing keycard.” Derek’s voice was so soft almost ragged from probably how much he had been crying under there. “Got pissed off and broke in I-“ The hiccup that pulls almost wheezingly from his throat indicates the new tears that fall fast down his already reddened face.
Moving him a bit, I can lay on my side on the floor, his usually bright sarcastic eyes lay dull almost broken.
Hey? Breath alright it’s going to be okay.” With those words he takes a shaky breath, and as reluctant as my brain is telling me to ignore him, my body doesn’t. Scooting enough so that I’m a bit more under my bed then I was earlier seemed to help as his fingers dug into the front of my grass-stained shirt body curling against mine as his tail laid lazily over my waist.
From over his shoulder, I can see the sort of blanket fort he had created to hide. Pillows against his back as he lets out a slow calming purr. After a long minute or two he lifts his head to look at me, his deep obsidian orbs stained red as exhaustion cloaked them. He was utterly drained that was for sure.
“Now what did Garrett do?” I question him, the exasperated sigh falling from his lips as he pulls away to lay on his back eyes glued to the frame as his tips of his tail tightened around my wrist.
“Where to start…”

Feeling the ease of the sun’s rays leaking through the open window, the smell of weed all but dispersed by this point as I stretch and throw my legs over the side of the bed. Only to have callused fingers against my throat the other over my mouth as my eyes fly open my back hitting the mattress harshly.
“YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING BITCH! I CAN’T FUCKING BELIEVE YOU!” Garrett straddles either side of my body, my fingers digging into his arm against my throat as he continued to yell incoherently.
‘How the hell? What the fuck is he doing in here?’
Flicking my wrist whatever magic held itself to my form sent him flying into the ceiling and dropping him back onto the floor.
“What the hell are you doing in here?!” I shout, placing one hand to my forehead a sharp pain rupturing against my very palm. The new growing migraine beginning to blossom behind it. Looking towards Garrett he is huffing before a fist collided with the side of my face. Knocking me onto my side and off the bed a curse falling from lips as I land on my stomach.
Getting a top my back, he straddles me once more as his fingers dig into the back of my neck. My own nails digging into the carpeted floor as he starts shouting.
“WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT FUCKING ‘DOG’ HAVE THAT I DON’T HUH?!” The seething rage within each word which seems to only deepen as he tightens his grip. “I thought that obsession shit was just a fucking joke?!” He breaths leaning forward a choking noise quick to join as my tail wraps around his neck yanking him back. His fingers leaving my neck to take it within a tight grip.
Pushing up off the floor Garrett falls to one side my tail going lack as he follows suit, getting to our feet we face each other for a moment his foot coming up to meet my stomach and knocking me into the closest cursing as my back slides against the door. Moving he continues to pelt me with sharp booted kicks.
‘Shit was his boots this tough before?!’
My body screams as the now ruptured tingle of magic send Garrett back once more. Getting back to my feet I can feel the exhaustion wrap itself around my shoulders like a blanket. Jumping up, I tackle Garrett my tail wrapping around his waist as my nails dig into flesh. Tangled together my claws draw crimson from him as he shouts and tries to pry me off him.
Falling onto my bed the frame creaks and groans his anger coming off him in waves as we roll about, my feet planting against his chest as my tail releases. Sending him flying back into Newton’s bed a soft curse falling from my lips as I hop back up. Feet now planted against my mattress; my body is vibrating as every nerve burned.
Garrett shots up grabbing my mattress and yanking it off the frame with surprising strength knocking me back onto the frame which splints as my body smacks one of the boards. The mattress discarded Garrett leans forward a bit breathing heavily as I stagger back to my feet. Glancing down my eyes widen at the sight of my keycard laying under his foot.
‘So that’s how he got in here… ASSHOLE!’
Reaching forward, I jump up and over his shoulder as he falls forward. Stepping before the door he pushes off the frame to tackle me. Using my tail, I flick the door open and slam it as soon as his ass hit the wall. Curses falling from his lips as loud banging hits the door, which groans in protest with every hit.
My shoulders drop as my fingers did into my mattress throwing it up against the door. The mattress feeling heavier than it usually was as my shaking legs drag over to Newton’s bed my fingers drawing to my crimson-stained fingers.
‘Fuck… this is bad.’
Falling from his bed, my fingers dig into his blankets and pillows as I push back under his bed hiding as the muffled banging and shouting dies down. Tears finally falling as my chest tightened as I pull Newton’s blanket into my face. Snapping my fingers my phone falls onto the floor in front of me. Quickly sending him a quick text I place it off somewhere as the world falls away the burning against my nerves.
‘No more magic…’

“That’s when you showed up, was he still out there?”, “Nah.” I respond, looking from the scattered room to him once more. “Are you going to be okay while I clean up a bit?”
“Fuck no, shit I should be the one doing that.” Derek pushes away from my arm his hands shaking as he pushes me. “Move, move.” He pulls himself from under the bed his body staggering as he gets to his feet his fingers digging into his hair as he mumbles. “I, I need to go do something really quick. Don’t do anything.” Watching him, he moves towards the closest grabbing a small black pouch and hiding under his arm.
“What’s that?” The question falls from my lips faster then my brain could properly think about it, stopping he turns his head and shrugs.
“Just something for my headaches I’ll be back in a second.” Derek smile weavers as he opens the door, making his way out into the hall cautious steps as the door closes.
‘Bullshit!’
Drew through my thoughts, shaking my head but I don’t move just sit within the silence of our destructive room. Fingers digging into the carpet and playing with the fuzz as the door opens once more. Returning shortly after, the pep to his step is a lot better then the dragging he had a moment ago. With a flick of his wrist the mattress falls back against his broken frame.
“If you keep getting headaches you should really stop using, you’re magic. Have you feed at all recently?” Deep down I know he would more than likely lie but I ask anyway. Taking a seat on his sunk in mattress a snap reaches my fingers the bed only rising a bit as he pulls his blanket off the floor. The half-hearted smile gracing his tired features.
“Why? You want to help?” The joking tone floats through the air doesn’t change the brightness against my cheeks as I lift my hands to rub them.
“Damn you.” I grumble pushing myself off the floor and back onto my bed. Pushing my glasses over my head I shake my head and smile.
Things feel so weird, but a good weird, I hope.
