Drops of water rang in the background. Fluttering my eyes open, I found myself submerged in a lake of water. It felt so relaxing. I dove in the water headfirst. The water was cold, but not cold enough to send shivers down my body. Flipping my legs back and forth, I swam deeper into the body of water. I saw fish fluttering around me. Some swam away from my sudden movements. Others came close curious to see what I was. It was a cute reaction. I laughed and enjoyed the sight. On the bottom of the lake, there was a bright light. Curiously, I swam faster to take a better look.
A whirl of water locked around my legs causing it harder to move. I extended my body around to look at what was hindering it. A woman was standing behind. The oceanic scene changed suddenly surrounding me only with an endless space of water. There stood a tall man with red hair, he held his high. He had a burgundy colour robe, which had lines of teal creating a design on his body figure. He waved his hands up. A boulder of rocks appeared and blocked the doorway that stood before him. “They are coming! Hurry and send the children to the land of the continents!” His husky voice echoed as he was turning back to a figure in the far corner. I focused my attention on the figure in the corner and it morphed into the same woman who had the dark wavy black hair but this time her stomach was very large.
She turned around and ran towards me. “Wake up Juvia…they…..coming….you...” The woman distorted. Suddenly out of breath, I gasped for air. Feeling deprived of oxygen I felt my eyes opened back up to reality. Still gasping for more air, my body automatically sat up from the bed I was sleeping in. As I looked around the room gripping the fabric near my chest, I was back in my bedroom. There was no one around. Relieved, I lay back into bed.
At that moment, my bedroom door swung open and Uncle Earl sprinted to my side. “Hali, she’s awake!” He yelled towards the door. A girl with a shotgun sling on her back stepped into the room. "Uncle Earl!” I jolted scared. "Who is she? Is she...” Uncle Earl turned with sorrow eyes and shook his head. “No darling, she helped heal your injuries. The other woman, she escaped. Juvia...." He looked on the ground and sighed. "I need to tell you something...about who you are."
“Is your eye alright?” I frowned as I stared into his grey pupil. “Don’t worry about my eye, Hali helped me heal but it left a scar.” Uncle Earl smiled as he pointed at his once injured eye. The woman called ‘Hali’ stepped towards me. She patted Uncle Earl's shoulder and confirmed she would explain what had happened. Unsure who she was or if she was safe, I scooted my body away from her on the bed.
Ignoring me, she sat on my bed and took off her hat. Her long bangs dropped and hanged on the right side of her face so she brushed her long bangs out of her eyes. She had straight platinum blonde hair that just fell past her shoulders when she took her hat off. Her eyes were pale blue like the ice in the arctic but raging like the tempest in the rainforest. It pierced my eyes making me feel a tight dull, pain in my chest. I gripped my shirt where the pain was. My eyes couldn't stop staring in hers like I was in a trance.
She gently placed her rough hands on mine and began to say, “I’m sorry to startle you. My name is Hali Aubin. It’s very nice to finally meet you Juvia. Your mother would be so proud to see what a fine lady you have become.”
Still staring at her, I blurted “You know my mother?” She just smiled and nodded in response. Not knowing how to react, I just stared at her like a deer in headlights. “You are one of the royal family members in the Creaturae Kingdom. Your father and mother fought to protect Cultor Nemorum, your siblings and you from Caedenbitus who took over the kingdom. The woman who went after you earlier, she was one of their subordinates.”
She just paused for my reaction, I just nodded in response. She continued, “As one of the four generals of the Creaturae Kingdom, I came to look for you and your brother and sisters. Unfortunately, I was too late and that woman found you before I could.” I glanced at Uncle Earl, he just smiled.
“Juvia can manipulate water, at least that’s what I think. Don’t you think it would be a good idea for you to teach her how to control?” Uncle Earl questioned Hali. Hali stood up and stared at me for a minute, “You’re probably right. We don’t know when the next time they are going to make a move again. We can start tomorrow morning, the faster the better. You should be ready to go by tomorrow since I healed all your injuries.” Hali answered. I looked down towards my hands and arms, there were only scars left. There was no pain existing just the feeling of coldness. Sighing, I slumped back into my pillow.
They both decided to leave me alone so I could get some rest. I couldn’t get any rest. There was too much going on that I didn’t understand. I thought my parents just dumped me by a random dumpster. My eyesight began to blur, I wiped my tears away with my shirt sleeve. A quick flashback of when the mysterious woman burned Earl’s eye flickered into my mind. Shivering, I pulled my bed covers over my head. Huddling into a fetus-like position, I squeezed my eyes shut and prayed for sleep to come faster.
The rest of the night Uncle Earl stayed by my side as I slept. I knew because, when I awoke early the next morning, he was slumped and passed out on my computer chair. Trying not to make a sound, I creep passed my uncle and entered my bathroom. The coldness of the bathroom floor arrayed goosebumps on my arms. I stared at my reflection in the bathroom. My eyes were swollen and red from crying. Sighing again, I turned on the faucet and cupped my hands together for water to splash on my face. The cold sensation of the water felt so good on my swollen eyes. Several splashes after my face felt more relaxed, I turn back at the reflection and tried to smile at it. Automatically, I grabbed the face towel. It was hanging on my left, and wiped my face with it and left the bathroom.
Quietly sauntering back to my bed, I grabbed my phone, which was on the charger by my bedside, and plopped back to bed. The phone told me it was 3:47 am. My belly grumbled with hunger, I felt so famished since I didn’t have any dinner last night. Taking my blanket, I tiptoed towards Uncle Earl and covered him as he was still asleep. Tiptoeing towards the exit, I slowly walked down the creaky stairs fooling myself that it will make less noise.
A delicious smell of hamburgers kissed my nose at the bottom of the stairs. I kept sniffing as I trailed the smell wafting through the air. It was coming from the kitchen. Hali was opening up fast-food packages in the kitchen. She noticed me by the doorway as my stomach growled loudly and my mouth dripped with drool.
My hunger reminded my stomach again, I watched Hali in silence who one by one opening each package behind the kitchen door. Translucent steam covered the food, showcasing that the food was still hot. Finally taking my eyes off the food, I looked up at Hali. She had dark circles under her eyes. Her hands were shaking like she had not had the chance to rest as I did. Not knowing how to enter the room, I just stood by the doorway.
“No darling, she healed our hands.” Uncle Earl’s words echoed in my head. Hali must have used of lot energy to heal both my uncle and me. She did help Uncle Earl and me after the incident. Why did Uncle Earl say heal, maybe she has powers like mine. There was something about her that I felt like she was just like me.
