How am I going to smuggle a goblin? throw him over the walls? I think I may have the strength…hmm decisions decisions.
“Master if i may, i can stay in the forest, building a small force and preparing the forest takeover!” Dark Dagger seems to me more into the role of a chaos monarch than I am, already planning on growing a territory.
“Since you can stay in the forest I'm relieved but I don't think we’re ready for this, at least not yet. With the new dungeon attracting those in search of riches, any random adventurer could blow me and you away”
“Then to the fateful day, I will be waiting in the shadows master” Dark Dagger bowed to me again, it seems to be a habit he got.
“I will be back tomorrow, i think i may have something for you”.
The way back was uneventful, showing my newly made ID to the guards I was let inside.
There were even more people on the streets today, blacksmith and other equipment shops were also filled to the brim with people buying or ordering stuff. When I got to the Inn and tuned in to the drunken people talk, I heard that one adventurer party found a high-level Purple-grade sword and that's what all this excitement is about. Putting together bits and pieces of dialogues I heard I could put together the item classification in this world.
An item power is classified in two parts, the quality and the level. The level of an item is the level requirement to use. The Purple-grade sword found in the dungeon today was auctioned off because it was meant for high-level people and the group was only in their 10’s. Another thing I learned with this is that up to level 5 is expected from everyone to achieve, but for each extra level the difficulty spikes. Back to the grading, low-level equipment or equipment without level restriction is rated Bronze, Silver and Gold. There is also trash equipment that is rated white or common, like in the case for the Goblin club. Level 6 and above is middle-level equipment and is rated starting from blue-grade, to purple-grade and then the legendary red-grade. It is said that most kingdoms have a red-grade heirloom that is passed from king to king and is used as deterrence from escalating wars. The fantasy equivalent of nuclear weapons.
It is rumored that classes, skills and races are also classified in grades but only people with special skills can see it, the same way a blacksmith can see hidden stats of equipment.
After a good night of sleep at the inn and having breakfast at the bar downstairs i came back to the forest, trying to find the place i left Dark Dagger i could barely hold the excitement of using the evolution ticket.
It took me a while to realize, but the grass around me started getting brown and the trees looked dead, the sound of animals had also got quiet. Suddenly I could see in the distance, one small goblin looking pale and hurt with his back to me.
I approached quietly as I could muster, thinking it was just another walking Xp when he turned. Half his face was bashed in, the single remaining eye had no pupil, it was a dead walking XP.
Or so I thought, when preparing to club the other half of his face the goblin unexpectedly bowed, and even though his tongue was hanging out through the huge hole he had, I could hear a clear voice talking.
“Welcome back, master” It was Dark Dagger talking.
“It seems you got a new trick, anyway, where are you? I have a gift for you” I responded, pretending that the goblin zombie hadn’t almost given me a heart attack.
“This subordinate is unworthy of such gifts, but im coming to find you master”
Soon I could see the figure of the hooded Dark Dagger covered in shadows approaching.
Again with all the bowing and master routine that I'm already getting numb to, i got the evolution ticket from my inventory.
[Use [Evolution Ticket(basic)] on Dark Dagger? Yes/No]
“Yes!”
[Target race: Goblin]
[Options:
Goblin Chieftain (Common)
Hobgoblin (Common)
Gray Goblin (Common)
Goblin Undead (Common)
Goblin Dark Chieftain (Rare)]
“Rare means it's better right? Dark Chieftain it is then”
A magic circle appeared underneath Dark Dagger with the same color and symbols as usual, followed by Dark Dagger glowing to only a silhouette like a pokemon evolving. This time the skull in the middle of the magic circle grew bigger, and a crown appeared on the skull, followed by smaller skulls appearing around it.
When the glow went away, Dark Dagger didn’t change as much as the last time, he just got a little bulkier.
Opening his status window I looked into what his new race entailed.
[Goblin Dark Chieftain (Rare)
+2 Dex
+4 Agi
+4 Int
+20% Darkness affinity
Dark Chieftain (Passive): Goblins and undead feel a need to serve you. Increase Undead and Goblin respawn in your territory. Can create building [Chieftain Tent] - Uses remaining (1)]
Wow.
“Master, I feel like my status was raised in the goblin hierarchy, but not quite. Like that is not the only hierarchy I belong to now. And I can start our territory now, master. Do I have your permission?”
Me and Dark Dagger spent the next hour searching for the best place in the forest to start the new village. We settled in a clearing next to a small lake. Dark Dagger used his skill and we could see floating a green outline of a big tent which Dark Dagger could move around. The place where we placed it glowed and from nowhere a tent appeared.
[New System function [Territory management] unlocked!]
From inside the tent 3 gray goblins and two skeletons came out, while a new type of system window opened in front of me. If the normal system window looked like something out of an RPG, this time it was an RTS. I could see my territory area that consisted of the small clearing and a small side of the lake, I could also see my resources that were zero and my population of 6, 7 counting me.
Friendship with Dungeons & Dragons ended, now Age of Empires is my best friend.
