“Mom?. . . Dad?”
I said as I was frantically looking around for my parents.
Last night, I had given them both hugs and kisses goodnight.
When I woke up and went to say goodmorning to them, they were not home.
I figured they just went shopping for something to put around the house,
As they often did.
Although, I found it weird that they didn't leave me a note or anything.
I shrugged it off knowing that they were coming home soon.
Yet, I was still scared.
I decided to watch my favorite christmas movies to pass time since Christmas was in 3 days.
Hours went by.
There was still no sign of my parents
I had begun to get really worried.
What if something happened to them? What if they got lost?
Now that I think about it. . .what if they. . .no.
Thats not possible. I am sure they'll be back soon…
Eventually, two days have passed. I was worried sick.
My parents had not contacted me whatsoever.
I was starting to think that maybe they really are. . .
I started to take action into this.
I contacted the police and told them everything.
At the time, I was only 12.
They shrugged me off and thought I was just a kid playing a prank.
I was devastated.
It seemed like no one was willing to help me find my parents.
Its not like I could go out and look for them, it had snowed freaking 3 feet!!
I was practically locked in.
This is when I knew, all I had to do was wait.
No.
All I COULD DO is wait.
Eventually, Christmas day came.
Still, no sign of my parents.
This had been the first Christmas that I spent alone.
Most kids wanted cars, or dolls for Christmas.
All I wanted was my family back.
It was the first time i had ever realized how much my family actually meant to me.
I broke down crying, thinking that I would never see my family again.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
I wondered who would walk through so much snow just to get to me!
After I snapped out of my daydreams, I quickly answered the door.
When I opened it, I fell in shock.
“M-Mom?? D-Dad? OH MY GOSH YOU’RE BACK!! MOM, DAD!!”
I started crying being I was so happy and realized,
My parents were alive and right in front of me!
“Heyy big girl! We went out to get you a Christmas gift and we got lost on the way back. The snow stopped us from contacting you because there was no service. We were stranded for days. But, We’re back now!”
My dad said as he grabbed my mom and I in a group hug.
It was in this moment that I realized,
Something about my parents felt. . .different.
