With Moraña on his back, Tujitou ran away as fast as he could. They were right outside of the city walls and they could already see people rushing over to the site of the explosion from a distance.
“Why were you using your gift? You could’ve died if I didn’t find you.”
“When I heard all the commotion, I hoped that it was someone that came to rescue us. I didn’t have the strength to scream, but I knew that I had to do something so people could easily find me.”
“But what if I didn’t find you or if it was something else? It was too risky…you could have died…”
“After all of the things they put me through…it was a risk I was willing to take…”
Tujitou turned silent after hearing her say this. He could still vividly remember the things they had done to him, so he could imagine the things they had done to her. He wanted to get angry, but he knew that he had something much more important to do. Tujitou believed that they were now far enough from Brague to get on the main road and so he did. As he ran he glared back to see Brague in an uproar and swore to himself to get revenge on them for everything they had done to them.
“My, my. What a day”, Lazerus stood in front of Tujitou as he smoked his cigar.
“I’m guessing you’re the cause of that,” Lazerus looked at the smoke that rose from Brague.
‘A cronian? What’s a cronian doing on earth? Is he a leveled? Why would a leveled even come here? He can’t be a leveled. He can’t. He can’t...right?’
“Am I right?”
“No…no.”
“Is that so? Then why are you running?”
“My…uh..my sister’s sick, so I need to get her back home as soon as possible.”
“Sister huh? One of you must be adopted then?”
“Huh? Oh..uh, yeah. She’s adopted.”
“Hmm. So you don’t know anything about that?”, Tujitou looked back at the smoke and then looked back at Lazerus and shook his head.
“All right then. Hurry home and make sure to take care of your sister.”
Tujitou was nervous. His heart was beating at an abnormal rate. He felt as if his heart was stuck in his throat. The fact that he answered his questions without much issue, could’ve already been called a miracle on its own.
“Go on. You need to take care of your sister, don’t you?”
“Ye-yes, sir. Thank you.”
Tujitou’s legs trembled. He struggled to even take a step forward. He wanted to move, but his body struggled to listen to him. He took a deep breath and checked to see the state Moraña was in. It seemed she had fallen asleep. It calmed him just enough to be able to walk away from there. As he passed Lazerus, he tried his best to put up a smile and nodded to him. Lazarus just smiled as he continued smoking.
‘That was close. Who even is he? No. That doesn’t matter right now. I need to get Moraña out of here. Just a little bit further and I’ll start running again. Yeah, just a little bit further.’
“Hey, kid. One last question. How’d you manage to escape?”
Tujitou’s eyes widened. Everything in the world had gone silent. All he heard, was the loud beating of his heart. He tried to say “escape?”, but no sound came out of his mouth. He couldn’t even breathe, it felt as if all the air in his lungs had escaped. His body stiffened, now truly unwilling to listen to his command. All he could do was turn his head to look at Lazerus.
“That’s why I can’t stand you filthy humans. Even the fledglings have no qualms with lying. Disgusting creatures.”
Tujitou watched as Lazerus faded away into the wind like smoke.
“Fortunately for you, the big guy doesn’t allow us to use our gifts against you lot-” Tujitou slowly turned his head back to see Lazerus standing before him- “but I’m sure he won’t mind if I pull my punches”, Lazerus punched Tujitou in his stomach causing him and Moraña to fall.
Tujitou who fell to his knees tried his best to breathe, but the pain didn’t let him. He glanced at Moraña to see her still unconscious. With his cigar in his hand, Lazerus waited and looked around. As if he was expecting something or someone to appear.
“Would you look at that? Apparently, this amount of force is allowed. How about this?”
Lazerus kicked his head sending him a foot or two away. His head throbbed and he felt himself almost losing consciousness, but he tried to stay conscious with all his might fearing what he could do to Moraña. Lazerus looked into his eyes and chuckled.
“Best to stop while I’m ahead, but who’s your friend over here?”
“No! Don’t you-don’t you dare touch her!”
