Pulling into the parking lot, I immediately spotted Fay from across the lot and Teia asked "are you ready for this?"
"No, but as Fay would say laissez le bon temps rouler" I shrugged as she giggled and said "let the good times roll, really? I hope this is going to be a good thing."
"Moi aussi, mon cheri. Moi aussi" I said taking a deep breath before gripping the handle and getting out of the truck.
"I really need to work on my French big brother. You seem to have gotten it down to sounding like a local" Teia giggled walking over to walk next to me.
"That's what happens when you spend an extended amount of time with a local" I giggled back as we crossed the parking lot towards where Fay was waiting for us with some girl. My heart immediately dropped as I watched him wrap his arm around her shoulders and lean in to whisper in her ear. Under my breath I mumbled "ahí va cualquier versión de un buen día que pensé que iba a tener." Reaching out, Teia took my hand and whispered "don't worry brother, you've always got me to talk to if you decide that talking to him hurts too much."
"Thanks Teia, I'll keep that in mind but right now I've got to keep my emotions in check otherwise he'll know something is up" I whispered back. Squeezing my hand, she whispered "you can do this, I believe in you Cher."
"Merci, mon cheri" I whispered as we closed the short distance that remained between us and them. When we had stopped in front of them, Fay looked up and smiled as he said "bonjour mes amies."
"Bonjour, geez I suck at French. I bet that sounded like a really messed up animal speaking that beautiful language" Teia laughed at her bad attempt.
"No sweetie, that was an okay attempt. I know other languages don't come as easy to you as they do to our dear Theo here" Fay laughed as I just frowned at the group.
"Qu'est- ce qui ne va pas mon ami?" he asked knowing I'd understand whether the girls did or not. Shaking my head, I said nothing and instead turned to walk to class practically dragging Teia since she was still holding my hand. After a few silent minutes of walking, she asked "what did he say?"
"He asked what's wrong my friend but since I didn't know if she'd understand us..." I trailed off as we reached my locker.
"You didn't answer instead opting to just shake your head and walk away" she finished my thoughts for me.
"Yeah..." I trailed again as I swapped my books out for the ones I'd need for my first few classes. Putting her hand on my back, she switched to our native Spanish and said "no te preocupes, hermano, todo estará bien."
"Gracias hermanita. Te quiero" I said just as I caught sight of Fay and that girl walking down the hall towards us. Meeting his eyes for a second, I quickly looked away hoping he didn't see the hurt I felt as I closed my locker and hugged Teia before heading to class.
"Yo tambien te amo, hermano" she called after me as I walked away. Making it to my first period class, I handed my teacher the note my mother had written for me. As she signed off on it, Fay walked in the room. Without a word, I took the note from her and headed to my seat in the back of the room by the window. Staring out the window, I could feel his eyes on me wondering what was wrong with me but I refused to look at him because I wanted to do nothing more than cry. Shaking my head at that thought, I quickly pulled out my other sketch book that wasn't full of pictures from his gigs over the years and flipped to a blank page to draw while I waited for class to start. Ignoring the world, I kept drawing until the bell rang for second period and simply picked up my sketch book and book bag before heading to my second period which I thankfully didn't share with Fay.
Several hours passed with me just drawing in class and jotting down the home works that were listed on the course syllabus before it was lunch time. As I closed my sketchbook and put it back in my book bag, Fay came up behind me and asked "D'accord, se`rieusement, qu'est-ce qui ne vas pas? Vous ne dessinez autant que lorsque quelque chose vous de`range. Alors c'est quoi?"
"Porque te importa? Diviertete con tu nueva novia, es eso lo que querias escuchar?" I shot back trying not to cry again but hearing my own voice break. Refusing to turn and look at him, I took a shaky breath and said "dejame solo un rato. Prometo que estare` bien."
"Non tu ne le feras pas. Pensez-vous que je ne reconnais pas votre signe de d`epression? Je te connais mieux que ca, Theo. Vous n`avez probablement meme pas realise que vous n'etes pas non plus passe` de l'espagnol au francais. Vous n'utilisez l'espagnol que lorsque vous etes vraiment contrarie` ou a` la maison. Alors, qu'est-ce qui ne va pas? Parle-moi" he pleaded trying to get me to tell him what was really bugging me.
"Not that listening to you guys banter in two different languages isn't entirely fascinating, there's someone I want Theo to meet. So, I'm going to steal him now" Teia said from behind Fay making us both turn to look at her. Looking back at me, Fay narrowed his eyes and said "ce n'est pas fini." Rolling my eyes as I passed him, I switched to French and said "c'est fini jusqu'a` ce que je dise que je suis pret a` parler." When we were outside the classroom, Teia asked "¿qué fue eso? Y lo más importante, ¿estás bien?"
"He was being his nosy self and no I'm honestly not. But lets focus on what you saved me for. Who am I meeting?" I asked in English as a cue for her to switch back as well.
"I'm introducing you to my Beta mate, if that's okay?" she smiled shyly at me as she toyed with her sun pendent.
"Why wouldn't that be fine, sweetie? Just because I'm having issues doesn't mean I won't support you" I said pulling her into a side hug as we walked down the hallway. When we reached the cafeteria doors, the smells of sweaty students and Cajun food could be identified even before we'd even opened the doors. Opening one, we walked inside and she led me to a table at the back of the room with a signal pink haired girl reading a book as she munched on pretzel sticks. As we approached, I took in this girls appearance from her boyfriend jeans with the rolled cuffs to her pale blue eighties style sweater that hung off one shoulder revealing a thick black tank top sleeve to her pale pink hair that was pulled into a bun atop her head. Glancing up, she smiled and said "hey Teia, who's this?"
"Kora, this is my big brother, Theo. Theo this is my friend Kora" my sister said causing me to quirk a brow. With a slight shake of her head, she told me the girl didn't know about them being mates just yet as I could already tell she was a fae. Looking at my sister, I asked "ella sabe que somos vampiros?" Surprisingly, Kora answered "si, y que tu sabes que soy fae."
"Oh, you speak Spanish very well. Are you fluent in any other languages?" I asked.
"Actually, yes. I speak fluent Gaelic and French as well. I understand that you use your native tongue to communicate so that normies don't understand what you're talking about. It's a good plan unless one speaks the language fluently" she shrugged with a smile.
"I'll keep that in mind. Though I was just reminded that I don't usually use it outside of home unless I'm really upset about something" I shrugged back as we took a seat at the table.
"Oh, I take it that friend you were arguing with not too long ago was the one who reminded you of that?" she asked making me quirk a brow before looking at my sister.
"I didn't tell her" she said raising her hands defensively.
"She didn't have too. You were thinking about it when you walked up to the table. Oh, and I'm glad you approve of my hair color and that I'm your sisters' mate not that she was ready to tell me yet. I just heard her when she realized it" she smiled at me. To test my theory, I thought "you're telepathic?"
"Yes and no. I'm an empath, I get snippets of thoughts but I get entire feelings. Like I know you're secret and I know your sister feels the same way about me" she smirked looking at my sister who was now beet red and covering her face with both hands.
"Please, don't tell anyone about that. Even he doesn't know and that makes it all the more irritating" I said looking at my hands where they rested on the table top.
"Don't worry, I promise I won't out you in either sense" she said reaching out to touch my hands.
"Thanks" I thought as a tear slid down my cheek.
"No worries, we're technically family now right and I protect my family no matter what or who they may be" she smiled as she turned to my sister and pulled her hands from her face before saying "I accept you as my mate Adrasteia Draven." Smiling, my sister said "and I accept you as my mate Kora Nikolas." Smiling, I watched them stare at each other before smiling back at me. My thoughts about their happiness were rudely interrupted by a panicked look crossing Teias' face as she looked at something behind me.
"What Teia? What's wrong?" I asked worried.
"She's not scared, she's angry. Apparently, your crush is doing something she doesn't approve of and it's making her mad. Though, I understand her irritation. I don't recommend you turning around brother" Kora said and something in her voice told me I would be more heart broken than I already was if, what I was feeling was anything to go by, I did in fact turn around. Nodding, I said nothing and did as she said despite the tear sliding down my cheek at the feeling of pressure against my lips.
"There's an exit to your right. If you get up and keep your back to him, you can escape without having to see it" she said gently as the look on Teias' face turned from anger to disgust. Nodding, I whispered "thanks Kora. It was nice to meet you and I'm glad we're family now. I just wish we could've spent more time getting to know each other."
"No worries big brother. We can talk later when I come over to meet your parents" she smiled at me.
"Okay, let me know if you guys need a ride to the house or not" I said standing up and heading out of the cafeteria as more tears slid down my face. Hiding my scent, I went to the roof of the gymnasium and cried for the rest of lunch. When lunch was finally over, Kora and Teia came to find me and wrapped me in a hug. While they held me, I thought "I'm sorry you're having to deal with my overwhelming emotions, Kora."
"No worries. Teia kind of balances yours out and mutes them to a manageable level. So, I don't pick up nearly as much as you think" she whispered kissing the side of my head.
"Did anyone notice me leaving?" I asked aloud so they could both hear.
"No, everyone else was focused on the disturbing show playing out in front of them" Teia said sounding angry.
"Teia calm down love. Your anger won't help Theo, it'll only make him hurt more" Kora whispered squeezing me tighter.
"Sorry, it's just upsetting" she said.
"Come on, let's leave early. I'm sure our family will understand" Kora said kissing my head again before letting go.
"Yeah, and it's not like Theo really needs to pay attention since he's about four or five chapters ahead of everyone else" Teia teased with a giggle.
"Wow, really?" Kora asked surprised.
"Six actually which is why I spent the first half of the day drawing instead of paying attention. Hell, I've even done all the homework on the syllabui already" I shrugged as the girls let go and stared at me before I said "what? I have literally no social life and the only tiny one I did have just decided to orally fuck some girl in the middle of the cafeteria."
"Wait, you knew what he was doing behind you?" Teia asked in a shocked tone.
"Yeah, I mean no but I knew it was something like that since I've seen you give him that face before and when I did look it's what it looked like" I shrugged looking back down at my hands again.
"Oh... I was hoping to save you from that disgusting sight. I'm sorry" Kora said looking down now.
"No worries sis. I know what he's like with his girlfriends" I said nearly choking on the words.
"You shouldn't have to see him with anyone else. It's not fair that he gets to do whatever he wants with his many floozies' and you have to suffer in silence" Teia said crossing her arms.
"Yeah but that's life" I shrugged before getting up and grabbing my book bag and adding "come on, lets go play meet the parents and getting to know my sister." Smiling, they got up and taking each others' hands intertwining their fingers said "yeah, let's do it."
As we walked down to the parking lot, we could hear people talking as we passed the gym and I paused when I heard one guy say "did you see Lafayette with Caroline in the cafeteria? I mean come on, they were basically dry humping."
"Yeah. My question is where was his one friend, what's his name? Theo? Shouldn't he have been there congratulating him for his conquest?" another guy laughed.
"Nah, I don't think he'd have done that. It doesn't seem like something that he would do. I did catch him sneaking out while everyone was focused on Fay and Caroline. He didn't look in their direction and from what I could tell he looked upset. Hell, even his sister and her friend looked disgusted for some reason" a third guy said. Looking back at the girls, we listened for another few minutes before quietly moving on to the parking lot.
