“This is nice, isn’t it?” Bex whispered to Lyssa.
Lyssa smiled at her and brushed some hair out of Bex’s face.
“It’s been so long since we've been here. I kind of missed it.”
“This house does hold special meaning now. I suppose it always has. I always find my way back here.” Lyssa pulled the blankets over Bex’s shoulder not that it mattered as both Vampires were immune to the cold.
Bex’s eyes traced Lyssa’s features, her lashes catching the sunlight from the window. She hadn’t laid in her room in years. She didn’t care what Lyssa told her, this was their home. This house, this room, this town. It was theirs.
It was where they first met. Where they went through everything together, struggles and relationship issues. Fights and bloodshed. This was home. This house held so many memories for Bex.
She had only been back in town for two weeks, and it was the first time they got to stay in the house. They had been staying by Joan’s side 24/7. Taking care of her and helping her as best as they could while Rooney was at work.
The pregnancy had taken a toll on Joan and the birth was very rough but it was all finally over.
Bex flinched when the loud whining of a baby rang off the walls and empty halls of the house.
“You’re turn.” Lyssa groaned as she rolled over to face the ceiling.
Bex sighed and got out of bed. She slipped into her robe and pulled her hair up before using her super-speed to go down the hall where little baby Joan laid in her crib.
At least that’s what Bex liked to call her.
The little baby girl looked almost like an exact copy of her mom.
“Nora, nap time wasn’t supposed to be over for another half hour,” Bex pouted before scooping the baby into her arms.
Instantly the child was soothed and stopped crying, blinking her big brown eyes at Bex.
Bex smiled at her and brushed the tiny little baby hairs down on her head.
Lyssa and Bex are in charge of watching the baby during the day, to give Joan a break. At night Rooney would come and pick up Nora and take her home. This was their new routine. They promised to stay in town and help Joan out as much as she needed it, no questions asked.
Bex didn’t mind. She liked babies, and she was glad to be with her friends and family again. Even if they were a lot older than she remembered.
“You just wanted to be held, isn’t that right,” Bex said in a baby voice while carrying Nora to the room.
Lyssa had just slipped her shirt on and ran her fingers through her hair.
“Can you ge—” before Bex could finish asking Lyssa zoomed out of the room and appeared again with the diaper bag in tow and a bottle full of milk.
“Thank you,” Bex pecked her on the lips.
Lyssa walked up behind Bex and wrapped her arms around her while Bex cradled Nora. She rested her chin on Bex’s shoulder. Even still Bex couldn’t take her eyes off the baby for one second. She was mesmerized by her. Completely wrapped around this baby’s finger.
Lyssa smiled to herself and held Bex tighter.
“I can hear your thoughts you know,” Bex frowned and gently elbowed Lyssa, not wanting to jostle the baby too much.
“You have to admit, Nora has you as her servant.”
“No she does not, isn’t that right little baby Joan,” Bex cooed.
The baby smiled at her.
“Rebecca, what did Joan say? You can’t keep calling her that.”
“I know but I can’t help it. She’s just so cute.” Bex set Nora down on the bed and grabbed a new diaper to change her.
“She’ll get confused.”
“No you won’t, right? Don’t listen to mean old Lyssa.” Bex puffed some baby powder in the air making Nora laugh.
Bex giggled.
Lyssa’s phone dinged as Bex tightened up the new fresh diaper, tickling Nora gently on the belly.
“Joan wants proof of life.”
Bex snorted before grabbing her phone and video chatting with Joan.
“Say hi to mommy,” Bex smooched Nora’s cheek.
Nora smiled at her.
“Nice to see you two getting along.” Joan said through the phone.
“Have a little faith.” Bex handed Lyssa the phone while she fixed Nora’s onesie.
“I bet you’re doing all the work.”
“Hey, we take turns,” Lyssa turned the camera to face her.
Joan rolled her eyes at her.
“I don’t mind. This little one is an angel, hardly ever cries.” Bex picked Nora back up in her arms before giving her the bottle.
“Ha, yeah right.” Lyssa turned the camera back to Bex.
“Hush it,” Bex glared at her.
“Darci’s due any day now,” Joan said.
“Then we’ll have two cute babies,” Bex poked Nora’s cheek.
“Might as well open a daycare at this point.” Lyssa sighed.
Joan giggled causing Bex to look up at the phone.
“You okay? Do you want us to come over?” Bex asked.
“I’m fine, stop worrying about me and take care of my baby please.” Joan said.
“Joan post pardon is real. I’m worried about you. Rooney says you don’t even eat that much.” Bex said.
“I’m hanging up now—”
“Hey,” Bex cut her off, looking at her seriously.
Joan eyed her through the phone.
“I’m here for you. No matter what. Don’t force yourself. Take your time. We got this, right Lyssa?” Bex looked at her.
“Right, I mean I handled Rebecca when she was reborn, that’s pretty much the same thing.” Lyssa shrugged.
“Ha ha,” Bex glared at her.
Joan giggled causing Bex to smile.
“Just get some rest, we got this covered.” Lyssa said.
“Okay, I will. Thanks, you two, really. This means everything to me.”
“Always. We got this. Babies love me.” Bex shrugged.
Just as Nora sneezed spraying milk all over her. Bex cringed as Joan and Lyssa laughed.
“Okay, got to go bye.” Bed snatched the phone back and hung up.
“Here, give me.” Lyssa outstretched her arms.
“Yes, please.” Bex handed her over.
Nora instantly started crying.
Lyssa frowned.
“It’s just for a second. Just a tiny fraction of a second. I’ll be back.” Bex pleaded with the baby.
The crying only got louder.
“Hurry please,” Lyssa sighed.
Bex quickly changed back into her clothes and threw her robe into the growing pile of soiled clothes due to baby. Then after washing her hands she appeared with a gust of wind and quickly scooped Nora back up.
Which got her to stop crying.
“She’ll warm-up to you.” Bex commented on Lyssa’s thoughts.
“I won’t hold my breath.” Lyssa grumbled.
“Give it time.” Bex pecked her on the lips.
Lyssa sighed.
They walked downstairs where Bex handed Lyssa the baby once more to get a little area ready for her. Causing Nora to cry again.
“Like mother like daughter,” Lyssa commented.
Nora threw the bottle at her.
“Ow!” Lyssa glared at her causing Nora to cry louder.
“Lyssa you’re scaring her,” Bex quickly grabbed the bottle and the baby away from her.
“She’s scaring me,” Lyssa pouted.
“Shh, shh, don’t listen to mean old Lyssa. She’s always grumpy.” Bex rocked Nora.
Nora quickly started to calm down.
Bex tried to lay her down on the couch but the moment her arms loosened Nora cried. Bex sighed and held her close again.
Lyssa shook her head at her.
“My arms are going to fall off.” Bex complained.
“And it’s only week one.” Lyssa pointed out.
“Are you sure you don’t like Lyssa?” Bex looked at Nora.
The baby whimpered and her eyes watered.
“Okay, okay, geez.” She sighed and rocked her.
