Still, I hoped I wouldn’t be here long enough to figure out how to wield this magic effectively.
But...besides that? So many questions ran through my head, from the smaller ones to the larger ones.
All I wanted to know was how to do my part well so I could return home even sooner!
But as the tip of Rudo's tail began to spin faster and faster, I realized some things are best learned through trial and error.
“Judging from your tail, I’m guessing you can’t give any tips as to how to use these wings?” I asked.
Rudo tilted his head, his head bending down to look at Fidel. “You have a bird do you not? Watch him!” He laughed, causing me to narrow my eyes.
That wasn’t going to help!
“After all, what better way is there to learn? I consider myself reasonable but, oh do I hate teaching people. Experience...it makes the learning much more invigorating and easy to remember!” Rudo sighed before his wing suddenly covered my vision, the removal soon after leaving my back and head feeling heavier than usual.
I barely had a mind to be shocked anymore, all I wanted was to leave and get this whole thing started and done with!
Hell, I even began making a small check-list in my head as to what to do in this world that would lead me closer to getting home!
Babysitting the Empire...that was unavoidable, make sure nothing funny went on and everything was in prime condition and such.
Handle any left small issues from time to time.
And if it came to it? Establish new laws that further make my short reign easy and sweet!
But...as soon as the time came for me to go back to my world? My eyes and mind were set on a target: Dilion. For fuck's sake, the very thought of him made my blood pressure go up while my injured heart panged with undead rage, if the guy was still alive then he was a fucking dead man walking.
While he was still safe.
He should pray to whatever sick god he believes in and hope he doesn’t run into me.
“Ready? You’ll have to learn how to fly before you reach the ocean or you’ll drown! If you make it, well...fly north where you’ll find my Empire, Haloke. Should be easy to spot if you listen for the sounds of celebration, they should be throwing something in honor of my return!” Rudo laughed, causing me to quickly whistle Fidel to my side before I nodded my head.
My eyes were trained on Fidel like nothing else, each moment I tried to flap my wings in an effort to test them out felt like I was rearranging my back! However...as butterflies of anticipation and excitement filled my stomach, it didn’t take much longer before the bird-dragon let out a screech-like roar, the sound loud enough to split mountains while the waters began to crack and lightning started to strike and roar.
A tornado of storms suddenly appeared and danced its way towards Fidel and I, the bird letting out a series of panicked chirps before the storm engulfed Fidel and I.
The sounds of the raging winds brushed away any other noises around me with ease, my vision blinded form the lighting and black clouds that swirled around me so harshly that it nearly threatened to tear the wings right out of my back!
However...upon daring to try and outstretch my wings in an effort to stabilize myself against the unforgiving wings, it didn't take long for me to regret it as I suddenly felt like I was falling, the winds and lighting of the tornado disappearing to reveal me in the midst of seemingly complete darkness as gold and purple lightning appeared all around me while drum-like thunder roared and pouring rain pelted my skin so hard to where I though it was going to cut through my skin.
I had one of getting this right...who knew what waited for me after dying twice.
“Damn it!” I screamed at the top of my lungs as I began to try and flap my wings, the desperate beating sound only making my heartbeat against my chest even harder with panic before I heard the sound of chirping and shrill tweeting not too far from me.
“Teach me to fly damn it!” I shouted at Fidel, the swallow merely flying around me as he tried to tug at my hair and even at my wings.
Each tug only made me focus on him even harder, as if watching would give me some sort of clue as to how to control my newfound wings. But...as soon as I felt him tug at my backside, the act sending a quick jolt of pain through my legs, it didn’t take me much longer before I looked at my legs where tail feathers colored similarly to my wings lied. I narrowed my eyes in thought, once again focusing my attention on a panicky Fidel. The tail feathers moved in conjunction with Fidel’s wings each time he flew around me, the feathers acting almost like a stabilizer during his flight.
“Maybe-”
Fidel’s sudden scream-like tweet sent me looking down below me where a lightning-filled tornado someone danced in mid-air, the sight only reminding me of death before I came to a quick conclusion.
I had no time to think, not anymore at least.
‘This better be right...!’ I screamed inside my head before I managed to flip my body over in the air, sending a burst of air through my feathers before I suddenly gained a bit of control over them.
I didn’t have to hear the bird shout into my ear again before I veered away from the storm and into the thunderous but, somewhat calmer dark clouds.
All my organs were in my throat as I flew. A mix of exhilaration and fear booming through my veins as I followed after Fidel, the longer feather on his head glowing a bright golden color like a sort of beacon. I wasn’t so stubborn as to let myself ignore a guide when I saw one.
“You better know where you’re going Fidel!” I tried to shout over the storms before he suddenly dived, giving me no choice but to follow suit, the sounds of the winds rushing by my face as I closed my wings to the sides of my body and the rain pelting my face making me narrow my eyes in fear of what was waiting below.
I trusted the bird with my life but...in the middle of a storm, I had more than enough reason to let my trust slip ever so slightly damn it.
Yet, as the winds grew faster and faster, the speed of the diving got no slower while the clouds seemed to be endless alongside their rage with all the lightning, hail, and thunder roaring around us. By the time I had begun to question Fidel? It was the exact moment we had escaped the eye of the storm, pieces of mist of cloud sticking to my body before it finally cleared away to see a kingdom right below us as it seemed to be filled with endless amounts of people.
The one time I trust this bird and there are people involved!
“Fidel!” I shouted, flapping my wings a little in order to catch up to him before I grabbed him, a squeak of protest escaping him as I made sure to hold him closer to me and fold my wings closer to my body.
This was going to hurt, and that?
That was one hell of a fucking understatement.
