However, it wasn’t the first time he’s felt this type of debilitation, so, Wei Xiao wasn’t panicked. The pain he was experiencing wasn’t intolerable and only made him uncomfortable. He turned his head away, resting his forehead against the soft tufts.
Wei Yue hadn’t noticed anything wrong with Wei Xiao, being too engrossed in her emotions. She kicked his shoulder and pressed her foot on his chest, pinning him down. "You should have never existed. You’re only a bad omen for this family. If you’re around, no one can ever be happy!"
Leaning down, she vituperated, “Just how long are you going to haunt us for? What’s the use of you struggling so hard for? You’re a good-for-nothing that only brings more trouble to everyone around you!”
Her foot exerted more pressure, adding to Wei Xiao’s pain.
“You f*king useless piece of trash!”
“Why don’t you just disappear? Why don’t you just f*king die already?!”
Wei Yue’s expression was twisted, albeit a smile never graced her lips.
She stopped and huffed as if she was emotionally and physically exhausted. Glancing down at the trembling body on the floor, Wei Yue let out an unhappy expression. She snorted in contempt and straightened her back.
Before Wei Yue departed, she threatened, “You better not say anything. If you do, you know what’ll happen.”
Wei Xiao kept his eyes shut as his brows scrunched up. Lying there like a dead man, he did not respond to Wei Yue’s intimidation.
She stepped over him and hesitated briefly before decisively exiting the room with rapid steps.
Glaring on the side, Bao Bao had long come out of his petrification. Initially given information that the protagonist was supposed to be someone who was ‘kind’ and ‘good-hearted’... ‘pure’ and ‘innocent’, even if she was a little fake earlier, Bao Bao had been unprepared for this.
Bao Bao cursed at her, wishing that he could give her the finger. He wondered if the person who wrote that anecdote was someone who had a hole in their brain as things did not match up! Watching her ambulate like she hadn’t done this, Bao Bao was going to be driven crazy by the unexpected reality.
He looked over all of his functions in a panic to see if he could help in any way. His host has been lying there silently for a while now, and he didn’t know if the other was actually okay as he had no way of knowing how the other’s health was faring.
Thankfully, Wei Xiao opened his eyes not long after.
Other than it being blurry, the fear that was supposed prevalent in those viridescent orbs was nowhere to be seen. They were dark and unfathomable, changing his whole countenance within a second. Instead of giving off an angelic feel, a minacious inclemency was in its place.
Wei Xiao shuddered as he struggled to get up, his face and lips drained of all colour. Supporting his upper body, what he had been suppressing surged up from his stomach as if revolting from being delayed too long. He vomited a copious amount onto the floor, his stamina being sapped away.
His entire body was taut as he hunched his back, covered in sweat. Psychological tears streamed down his face as he retched once again. The nausea was like the waves, hitting him again and again. Unknown for how long, he went through a vicious cycle, black spots dotting his vision.
Bao Bao was about to explode from anxiety, but Wei Xiao didn’t show any disturbance in his emotions and remained calm. He laid in place as if he was waiting for something.
On cue, the door was pushed open with the sound of sobbing.
Multiple footsteps entered in and he could feel their anxiety and urgency. Quickly moving, one of them slammed the emergency button by his bedside and started to perform first aid on him. Trying to keep him conscious, the person talked to him, but he could not make out any of her words.
Wheezing, Wei Xiao’s vision began to blur. A faint light sparkled in his eyes as he left a message for his system.
<Wait for me to wake up.>
*
Because Wei Xiao was not the original, even after being subjected to the abuse, he continued to be placid. He did not have the original Wei Xiao’s pessimistic mindset, nor was he traumatized by this older sister of his. She was like a non-venomous snake daring to take a bite at a slumbering dragon.
Carefully, he fixed his clothes and flatten out the nonexistent wrinkles, as he carefully made sure that he hadn’t pulled on any of the wires. Once Wei Xiao finished smoothing out his clothes, he adjusted his position so that it was comfortable. The corners of his mouth faintly curved upwards in a peculiar manner devoid of warmth.
He gazed at his hands in quiescence. Held within the thin white fingers was a gift left behind by his parents. His eyes were as tranquil as the sea, but everyone knew that it was only a temporary calm before the storm.
On the side, Bao Bao had been crying. He found out that he did not have any ability to help his host in these kinds of situations and felt incompetent. Vexed, he could only scold himself and Stupid to tears. How dare this... This... Bimbo hurt Bao Bao’s host! Wuwuwu³~! If only Bao Bao could smash her into a million pieces and ground her into dust! Stupid stupid is just lucky! Bao Bao will... will... Bao Bao will curse you to your eighteenth generation!!!
If he had been more experienced, perhaps he could have done something, even if that broke the rule, but because he was just the most basic form of a system, everything was intangible to him.
This did not dissuade him though. He was boiling on the inside. The next time, he’ll be ready to massacre her with his fluffiness. Just thinking about the situation, the tips of his fur stood up as if ready to discharge a puff of his snow-coloured fur at her, in hopes of suffocating her.
Bao Bao was flushed with anger. If he had eyes, no doubt it would be filled with angry tears. And if looks could kill, Wei Yue would be killed over a billion times.
He couldn’t help but feel like he was to be partially blamed for how things turned out. Albeit Bao Bao was Wei Xiao’s system, he was utterly useless. He could not prevent the incident or alleviate Wei Xiao’s symptoms, he couldn’t even stop it from occurring again.
Bao Bao’s heart ached. This was his first contracted soul, and already, he had to go through such a plight. What will be in store in the future for them then? QAQ He was quite afraid.
His all-in-one head and body bowed, profusely weeping inwardly. He wanted to become stronger so that his contracted host would have dependable support in the future.
Even though Bao Bao may have only become his system recently and shouldn’t have deep bonds with his newly established host, he couldn’t help it. He may not be the smartest system that there is out there, but Bao Bao did understand some things about his role and job.
The rules confining the two parties were undoubtedly biased to the system, while blatantly discriminating against the other party.
The signed pact that any host had to abide by was downright unfair to the latter party, making the livelihood of the contractor much more difficult to ensure. Systems were like the helpful bystander who will only gain benefits with few drawbacks, while the contracted party will have to achieve the goal with their own power and are forcibly required to take the brunt of everything coming their way.
So even before getting into this world, Bao Bao was already ridden with guilt. He did not see the other like how many other systems saw their ‘partner’—a disposable tool. For him, they were on equal grounds; no one was better than the other.
He also hoped to build stronger bonds with Wei Xiao as it would be beneficial for both sides since they were going to be with each other for quite a long time. It was also comforting to have someone defend your back.
However, Bao Bao left all of those naive and good-natured thoughts unsaid. He just couldn’t muster the courage and say something so cheesy. He would definitely die before any of that happened.
Wei Xiao wasn’t aware of his system’s selflessness. But even if he did, with his current self, he wasn’t one to understand it and nothing would have changed much. It was not that Wei Xiao was cold-blooded and ungrateful, rather he just didn’t know how to respond to such concerns.
Bao Bao, who was agonizing inside, listlessly rolled toward Wei Xiao.
<Host… Are you alright?>
However, Wei Xiao didn’t reply to Bao Bao’s question. Although there was a dull aching pain from the aftermath and some soreness in his chest, he didn’t consider anything too severe. Instead of bemoaning about his injuries, he contemplated on more important matters.
He wanted to expose his injuries for others to see.
Obviously, he couldn’t outrightly strip in front of others to expose it—that wasn’t something the original would have done. So, Wei Xiao pondered a bit on the subject in silence.
Finally breaking the silence, he proceeded to ask.
<Can it be changed gradually?>
Unknown Diary Excerpt:
He worries too much.
The author has something to say: (Might be a spoiler after my ramblings if you’ve never read this novel before)
Warning that things won’t be medically correct because of my inadequate knowledge. Ahem
If any of you, or anyone you know is suffering through any emotional, mental, or physical abuse, please, please, please seek help. Here is a link: https://www.thehotline.org/ (I don’t know if it’ll work outside the US… But please search online for help that’s available to you.)
No one should have to go through such an insalubrious torment. You should know that your life is truly important and that you are a beautiful and wonderful soul. The first step to end the virulent cycle starts with you. So please, even if you’re afraid, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for you. Life is subjected to changes, and even if the unknown future scares you—it’ll be alright; you’re not alone in this.
I also want to add that not every protagonist has to be a good person with morals and a righteous heart. After all, we’re just reading about one person’s POV.
The storyline given to Wei Xiao and Bao Bao had been told from her point of view and with that many things were twisted in her delusion. Wei Yue isn’t one of those protagonists who is incorruptible. She’s human, a being who is susceptible to being polluted with wickedness. Naturally, a protagonist like this doesn’t really exist in novels as the readers would hold too much contempt for her… But oh wells~ ʅ(°ヮ°)ʃ Novels don’t always have to make sense… Should probably add a tag that says ‘nonsensical things’.
I am editing and rewriting to make the story connect better but I am NOT changing the main plots I have written before.
Much love to you fallen angels~ ( ˘ ³˘)♥
³Wu: 呜 wū, it’s an onomatopoeia for crying or whimpering. You’ll also see it in this form: 555, which is often used online to express crying emotionally. It’s not necessarily used to express sadness or negativity and is usually used in a more humorous way.
