Since she had dropped onto her shoulder, the blonde writhed in pain for a brief moment. It wasn't broken, but it hurt a lot because there was no padding. It was almost as painful as her first fall down the rabbit hole.
She stood up after a few seconds and covered her mouth when she heard footsteps. Two of the knights pursued her, but they failed to notice her fall.
“Where did she go?” says the confused knight. “I'm certain I saw her.”
Alice returned deeper into the pit, spotting the knight close by, who scratched his helm in thought, becoming irritated. A red glow emanated from under his armor as he pressed his foot against the stone.
“It doesn't matter; we got the mouse and the hatter.”
“Correction! The mouse is a louse, and we got the mad hatter. Why are we capturing mouse in the first place? I'll tell you what, I don't think he stole the crown; I think her big ass sat on it and couldn't feel it because of all the padding.”
"Farley!" exclaims the knight.
“What? You were considering it as well.”
“She is our queen,” says the knight.
Farley shook his head from side to side, refusing to accept the knight's words that they had a new queen. She was more akin to a tyrant who had seized control of their land by intimidation.
“No, she isn't a queen because she doesn't have a crown.”
He grabbed the knight's wrist and moved closer, saying a few words that were crucial because he couldn't conceal what he saw. He took a deep breath and looked around before saying something.
“Some members of her court say she staged the theft of her crown and that they witnessed her placing it in a box.”
“Come, let's go back to the castle with our report that we have a conspirator in our hands,” he said. “He won't be killed by the queen; he'll most likely be taken into her court.”
“It doesn't matter, Vittiore.”
Farley scratched under his helm as he waved his hand towards the checkered castle. Maybe the reports were true, and someone inside the castle took the queen's crown.
“Have you seen Ace?” says Farley. “He was expected to be on the lookout from the outside.”
“He's most likely dozing off somewhere.”
And with that, the two began to walk away from the hole, their footsteps becoming increasingly faint. To Alice's delight, she dragged herself out of the pit after an eternity of waiting. Tove was apprehended, and Monte most likely escaped due to his diminutive size. In a large forest like this, finding a mouse is difficult.
