~Little Red Riding Hood Collab AU~
Suri fidgeted as her brisk walk became a complete stand still. As a hand wrapped itself tightly around one of the straps pressing into her shoulder, her other tugged on the cuff of the red hoodie she wore. She looked between her two options carefully, wondering if it was too late to turn back and at least ask for a map.
One path was lined with small, blue flowers. Inviting, but deceptive. Even with her horrible sense of direction she could tell that it was wandering back towards the shore—bits of sand tucked amidst the gravel as her ears picked up the sounds of distant waves.
The path winding away from the shore, however, was lined with thorny vines and fallen, rotten trees. It bent like a snake in a sharp curve that didn’t allow her to see what was on the other end and the sunlight struggled to breach the thickening canopy.
Her heels dug into the dirt path beneath her as her bottom lip tucked itself between her teeth. What were the chances of Trenton picking the pretty path towards the bay?
Staring at her options wasn’t going to make the correct choice appear any clearer, so with a thick swallow, she took a step forward. The moment she did, the saplings and bushes in front of her shook with an unexpected motion.
She froze in place.
A pair of pale green eyes, glinting in the dark of the underbrush, now looked directly back at her. The sight of them both horrified and captivated her as they shifted and rose to match the lean figure rising to a stand. The white, pointed canines that flashed with a wide grin were lackluster in comparison.
“What have we here?”
As he stepped out of the shadows, Suri was struck with just how tall he was—easily hovering above her as he leaned forward at the waist and placed his clawed fingers against his knees. His upturned nose wrinkled, curiously sniffing in her direction, and making her timidly curl away.
The soft motion made his eyes snap back up to meet her frightened gaze. She was caught in their intensity again as they narrowed at her dangerously.
“What’s your problem? Never seen a wolf before?”
“N-No, it’s just, um, you talk.”
He raised a brow, clearly unimpressed as he began to circle her slowly.
“Lost?” She shook her head adamantly, but he smirked. “Yeah. You’re lost.”
His pointed brown ears swiveled as her breathing became shallow. Although she tried not to move, she did flinch, drawing his attention to the bag on her back. He nodded at it.
“What’s in the bag?”
“Nothing.”
His head tilted as he came to stand in front of her once again. It was obvious that she wasn’t telling the truth, so he simply crossed his gloved arms and grinned again, trying to appear friendly. She tugged on the sleeves of the sweatshirt.
“Um, honestly? I don’t technically know what’s in the bag.”
He stared at her unamused, his gaze unwavering and scrutinous. But when he realized that she was telling the truth, he laughed. “Why would you carry something around without knowing what’s inside it?”
“I was told not to look.” She frowned at his obvious amusement and shrugged. “It’s whatever.”
“Can I look?”
“No!” She blushed when he snarled from her sudden increase in volume and she cringed in sympathy and lowered her tone. “It’s, um, it’s not for me.”
He sat back on his ankles, leading her to notice the heeled, knee-high boots on his bent legs. How could he move in those things? Massaging his ears, he gave her another scrupulous once over.
“Who’s it for then?”
“This guy I know.”
At the mention of Trenton, she glanced between the two paths once more. He could be in either direction, or there could be other breaks in the trail. Not to mention that she had a wolf focused on what she was carrying; she really didn’t have a reason not to tell him.
“He’s, well, in this cabin with a green roof. He looks your age, I guess. Leather jacket and—”
“White hair? Snarky tone?”
“Yeah,” she confirmed, blinking in surprise. That was exactly right. “Do you know where he is?”
“I ate him.”
Suri paled.
