Historical Tidbit - Litvak vs Galitzianer
Mar 10, 2021

Sam and Joel compare their cultural differences as a Litvak and Galitzianer, respectively.
This was inspired by a short skit/song I saw with this theme and it's also called Litvak and Galitzianer: https://youtu.be/PTVVJ2uxPcI
I'll be releasing these short Historical Tidbit comics from time to time, to give more depth to the cultures that populate Sam's Lower East Side.

Love the cultural comparison AND you made me want Kugel!
Another thing, although less pronounced, is that Lithuanian Jews tended toward a more law-based Judaism (called the Mitnagdim) where Jews in Ukraine tended toward Hasidism and mysticism (there's some sociocultural reasons for that in the 1700s). So, in the 21st Century, the term Litvak has come to mean an traditional Orthodox Jew who's affiliated with Lithunianian/Mitnagdim tradition rather than the Hasidic tradition.
