Chills suddenly ran down Yue Long’s spin. A series of ragged breathing and a hum that she knew to well. Slightly turning her head, she could see a monster that struck fear into even the bravest of the village men. Hair as dark as a raven’s feather, skin that seemed not to age and eyes purple like an orchid. Those eyes glow in the light of the moon.
“YUE LONG!!! HOW DID YOU GET HURT? AND SUCH AS LARGE WOUND! KURO GET OUT HERE NOW!” Mimi Yue’s mother screeched at the top her lungs. Quick footsteps came from the inside as a man walked outside. Yawning he stretched and then scratched the back of his neck. Kuro is a strong built man who was just a bit taller than his wife but towered over Yue. He lazily looked over to his wife who was so angry that an egg could be cooked on her head. Then Kuro looked over his child, just to see that her back was torso was wrapped in bandages. It took him a moment for his still waking brain to process what he was seeing.
“Eh? What happened? Which daemon was able to land that hit on you?” He asked while patting his wife’s back. Yue looked at her father and mother. She crawled on the ground and sat kneeling in front of them. It took a moment for her to think what she would tell them.
“COME ON! SPIT IT OUT ALREADY!” more back rubbings and patting was accompanied by the loud yelling.
“I save…” Yue’s voice trailed of as he looked to the side. Kuro looked at her and to his wife. His hearing was better than his wife’s.
“Honey settle down. The reason for the injury is a good one.” He gave a nervous smile. “Even if she is hurt nothing can really hurt her that much. She still standing and walking around is she not?” Yue nodded her head furiously and looked at her mother who still was angry. Mimi took a deep breath for the moment to pass. “Ugh” was released by Kuro who was doubled over in pain. Mimi had hit his stomach when he was not prepared to take a hit. Yue’s face went from hope to pure despair as her mother went and pulled Yue’s ear. Dragging her into the dark house.
Slap…Slap…Slap could be heard from the house. Kuro stayed outside as he did not want to join the punishment that was being handed out to his poor daughter. “Mother OW… Please im injured… Ow How can you do this to me! Father Help… Ow me please” Yue begged for help, but it did not work as her father sat on the porch waiting. His own forehead was laced with sweat as the punishment continued for another ten minutes.
“I am sorry Yue. If I help you, I might die.” He said out loud letting Yue hear it. This angered her but she also understood in a way. But he would not even try to stand up for her. “Coward!!!” She yelled at the top of her lungs. This got him to move. Not once in Kuro’s life was he called a coward, but now he was called one because of his wife.
Calming his nerve’s, he marches in and was going to say something when SLAP. Twenty minutes passed and both were kneeling in front of the house head. Standing in front of them was now a normal looking mother who eyes were fierce and trained on her daughter. “Now tell me why and how you got hurt?” the voice was stern and commanding. As Yue listened to her mother, she noticed the screams were quiet. Almost like they were hushed or even drowned away. This was a slight shock almost like that women took them away with her. “Who was she?” Yue asked herself quietly as she thought on how to tell her mother how she got injured.
“Spit out already Yue Long. Do not tell me anything but the truth I will know.” Mimi’s voice was still stern with her. A small sigh was released by Kuro. “Just tell her what you did Sweetheart.” His voice was soft and sweet so it would not cloud her mind even more. Nodding Yue took a breath in and looked up.
“I saved a girl from being eaten. There was a group of Ma sect members who were useless in the face of a Tunshi Zhe. There were people there who couldn’t protect themselves.” Yue had held her head proud to her mother who was shocked at the mention of Tunshi Zhe.
“A Voice Eater was here? They are lucky you were there. Pissing themselves silly facing such a daemon. But this does not explain the wound very well.” The anger that was once present had now vanished like smoke. “The girl was tricked by the Tunshi Zhe and ran in front of me to try and protect something. Possibly a illusion created by it. I reacted by instinct…. I protected her using my own body.” Yue was slapped from the back of her head.
“You should be more carful and if you have done nothing wrong and protected others tell me next time. You cannot keep everything to yourself my dear.” Mimi was now patting Yue’s head gently. “I will never get angry at you for saving someone’s life and one that did not have to ability to save their own. Come now, sleep will help that get better.” Yue stood up and shook her head.
“I am not tired. I am going for a walk by the lake don’t wait up for me mother, father. Get some rest you have to work early in the morning.” Yue was quick to leave out the doors and down the path to the lake. Both of her parents were watching her. Even with such a large injury she could run away so fast.
“Maybe I was a little to tough on her training. She took such a powerful strike from a purebred daemon. The demonic energy is still coming off it. Most cultivators her age won’t move from the bed they lay on.” Kuro said this as he got up from his kneeling. Mimi stared for a moment and then placed a hand on her husband’s shoulder. “Yue still suffers from the nightmares. Suffers from her past life. An old friend contacted me earlier.” Mimi’s face was full of worry as she stared at their child. “Who was it? What did they say?” Kuro wrapped his arm around Mimi’s waist. There was a pause before she could say anything. It was like a frog was stuck in her throat and refused to come out. Lightly Kuro rubbed her back and finally a breath was released from Mimi’s mouth. Another moment passed as the two stood together.
“A Lotus flower has grown in the prayer fields.”
