Running into her room she laid on her bed and tried to sleep. Only for the nightmares to wake her up. Yue gripped her blanket as the dream started to from behind her eye lids.
A field of baren dirt and broken trees had appeared around her. sitting up in the dream she noticed her clothes had changed into black and white lotus patterned robes. The wind blew dust and dead weeds around the land. High in the sky was the full moon. The sky was speckled with stars but there was something missing.
“Help! Somebody help my son!” Yue heard the screaming coming from a woman who was holding a child. The sight pulled apart Yue’s heart, making her run to the women and child. Beaten, battered, and covered in blood the women collapse as soon Yue got to her. The women seemed not to be normal as she had long horns protruding from her forehead and patches of her skin seemed to be scales. Quickly Yue had gone to work in helping both the women and the child. Luckily, the child had just fainted from what seemed exhaustion, but there was a mass amount of blood covering him. Yue was freaking out in her head as she was a bystander in her own body. But she watched intently trying to learn more about who she was but there was nothing. She could not see her reflection but what she could observer as her eyes darted back and forth on the women. The women had severe wounds that glistened with a golden shimmer. An angry growl came from Yue, one that she did not make herself.
“Which god did this to you?” The voice sounded like her own, yet it was not as soft no it was a bit shaper. Like this person had won many arguments and been in diplomatic discussions for a very long time. A faint glow came from Yue’s hands as they were over the wounds that shimmered. The golden shimmer was quickly disappearing, and the wound was slowly healing. But it was just enough for the women to be out of danger.
“It was -pant- it was the -pant- gold dragon.” The woman had struggled to talk. But once her body was healed enough to relax a bit she had also passed out from exhaustion. Footsteps were approaching from the north which the women and child had come from. Laying them next to each other and placing a barrier over them. Yue turned around to meet those who were pursuing the small family. A smoke had passed around Yue’s body and seemed to change it.
The footsteps stopped a few feet away from Yue who was standing with arms crossed. A fan was opened by a young man who had long platinum hair and a sharp gaze. Waring golden armor, with a sword at his hip. “You are standing in front of things that need to die young man.” His voice was dripping with poison. A chuckle came from Yue, but it was a deeper tone then a few moments ago. This seemed to catch the golden one of guard and he closed his fan. “Those vile creatures have to die. They are nothing but evil in this world and will be nothing but that!” He yelled at Yue. Feeling her body stiffen Yue could feel the sadness and anger dancing in her.
“They are protected by me and I wish this not to be a fight. Please leave and never come back here.” The deep voice was stern but also held hope that this man would not fight. The golden one waved his hand with the fan and soldiers started walking closer. In a quick motion those who advanced forward were knocked back. “Please I beg you, gold dragon.” Yue was turned where her face was not shown to the dragon before her.
“You beg me?” he scoffed at the thought of a mere human pleading for the lives of monsters. “You can die with them human. You should know your loyalties are to the gods not black daemons like them!” He yelled at Yue. Tears were falling from Yue’s eyes the more masculine hand of her started to wipe them away. The soldiers advanced forwards grinning that a man was crying.
“Then you leave me no choice.” Were words that escaped Yue’s mouth that ended with blood being sprayed in her face. The soldiers were attacking the person now covered in their companion’s blood. But with every strike Yue felt the sadness and darkness deepen. It was an endless void that forced her to cry out for help. Blood covered the area, the baren land had become a sea of blood by one person. This person was covered in blood but with two constant lines from her eyes. The golden one had long left the battlefield leaving his men to fend for themselves. If they chose to continue fighting, they would be stricken down, but if they chose to abandon the battle, they would surrender to the one covered in blood. Finally, the last one who wanted to fight was watching Yue who dropped to her knee’s the black smoke circling around her again changing back into a woman. Dropping her own sword Yue started to cry loudly. The one in this nightmare did not want to do this. No, she wanted peace, she wanted all lives to treated equally. Even if there was a few who did evil deeds, those who were good should be treated as good people. This woman wailed for the lives she just cut short. Shaking she tried wiping the blood away, but she could not wipe the stain of it off. The last solider looked at the woman who transformed and then just as he was ready to fight, he dropped his sword and kneeled.
“You took their lives why cry for them?” He asked Yue simply but almost astonished.
“How many of their people’s lives did you take. Why don’t you cry for those who are innocent?” Yue responded in anguish.
“Because they are monster’s, and we are not.” The man answered calmly and quickly. Looking up at the man Yue stared into his eyes as she could feel a smile form. The tears were not stopping.
“You became their monster’s. Just as they are your monster. You became theirs the moment you started killing them in cold blood.” Yue started to laugh to herself and put her hand on her head. “I never want to kill. As the moon I should just watch as you fight among yourselves but….” Yue looked at the two who were laying protected by a barrier. “I could not stand by as you killed the innocent on the orders of a gold dragon.” Yue got up and walked to the two still crying. Quick steps came from behind her as she was pierced by a blade and words were said.
Yue woke up grasping the blanket over her. She could feel where the blade hit, how her flesh was cut through. Yue could remember the feeling of every nick in the blade scratch past her bones.
“You should have never been born!” Were words she uttered as the ones that were whispered. She could still feel the hot breath of the persons voice on her ear. Screaming bombarded Yue as soon as she woke to question anymore of the person who said this. She struggled with shutting out all the noise. Yue looked out to the lake and could see that there was a nice glow.
“I should be used to this…” Yue this tiredly. She did not want to sleep again. Getting up she winced a bit. A heavy sigh came from her lips. Yue’s gentle smile had been lost while she tried to listen to the screams, the calls for help, the cries, and the pleas of mercy. Crying for them would be useless as they could not comeback nor would they find peace. Quietly Yue walked out on to the porch and lowered the top of her clothes to let the cool air on her pale skin. Her back burned but the pain was well worth it.
“You are a hero to that young girl you know that?” That voice from the dream had whispered into her ear. The feeling of a person’s hot breath made Yue turn around. Only to meet with black and white eyes and a face like her. A soft smile and strands of snow-white hair gently falling. Stunned no words could leave her mouth in stead it gapped like a fish with out water.
“Oh, you silly girl. Close your mouth or you might catch a bug.” Yue listened to the women who looked like her but with white hair and two different eye colors. She wore the black and white lotus patterned robes as the dream Yue had moments ago.
“Who are you? Why do you look like me?” these were simple questions but one’s that Yue wanted to know. The soft smile on the other grew a bit more. She closed her eyes and tapped Yue’s back.
“I cannot tell you my name because you will not hear it until it is time. But I am you and you are me. We are one and the same but soon I will be no more. You will take my place up there. Maybe there does not have to be another war.” The women sat down on the edge of the porch her smile never fading. She eyed the tree line and was watching something amongst them.
“War? We are the same? I will take your place. What do you mean?” Question after question was wanting to escape Yue’s mind but she could not speak the rest. Small laughs could be heard from the look alike her eyes fixed on the trees.
“I see. You have protectors this time. My time right now is limited Yue. They will come after you, but do not worry the night will always protect you. Our love is waiting for you to remember.” The last word had faded out as the women disappeared as well. Yue was looking around and tried to find her anywhere.
“Wait you still havent told me your name!” She yelled into the night and felt as she just learned something important. “why tell me in riddles?” Yue crouched down and covered her head with her hands.
