Aero gave me three months until the wedding, he's got this crazed notion that I'm going to fall in love with him. No way that's going to happen. A month has already passed, and guess what? I want to leave just as badly as when I got here. Well, maybe that's not necessarily true. A girl could get used to getting pampered, and don't even get me started on these giant ass bathtubs this pompous asshole has. You could win a girl's heart by having tubs that cover boobs, stomach, and legs all at the same time, I mean that's the dream right there. Either way that's not enough to keep me in a loveless marriage though.
Today is some kind of festival the town throws every year. I don't completely understand it but I think it's kind of like praying for a successful harvest and luck for the family? You know may your wife have plenty of kids and your crops grow well. Or may your chicken have plenty of eggs. I mean I totally get wanting a successful harvest, but to measure a family's success by how many sons they have is kind of backwards thinking compared to where I come from. Men here seem to be more valued than women, and if your wife works you fail as a man. Society has yet to evolve here, and I venture to guess if they get to vote for any leaders of power, only men could vote. Obviously they don't vote here as Aero is king, but the point being women don't have much say.
"Are you ready for the festival ma'm? Oh you're just going to love it! When the sun goes down we have lanterns and lights and even fireworks!" Susie gushed, only pausing when she finally realizes I'm not dressed. "Oh." She sighed. "You need to get dressed ma'am you don't want to upset the King by making him wait."
"Good make that bastard wait." I frowned as Susie brought out another tightly fitted dress with torture device shoes.
"Ma'am I do not want to be punished by the King, please put this on."
That bastard has learned punishing me doesn't work, but the people around me? Yeah that really gets to me.
"Ugh fine." The minute I have a chance to, I'll run off into the crowd. I am kind of excited for the festival, but I don't want to spend it with Aero.
When I was young I lived in a small town, one of those that if you blinked while driving it was gone. The town may have been small but everyone knew each other and it was very tight knit. Every year they have a fest, as we called it. Kind of a street festival, where there were rides, game booths, activities, and most importantly to the adults the beer garden; which was just kind of a small gathering for the adults that they sectioned off where they could legally drink in as under 21 were not allowed in. I loved the fests we used to have, they were some of my best childhood memories. Then my parents divorced and moved to separate cities. I miss that small town, and I think this festival would be a chance to kind of relive that vibe I used to get. I just have to find a time to shake Aero.
"There!" Susie proudly gleamed. "That dress looks amazing on you!"
I looked into the mirror and blushed. "Oh. Uh thanks!"
"Makeup!" She clapped her hands in excitement.
I have to admit, I'm still intrigued by the old style mascara and it works so well! It's in a little tin box, it's like a little square of mascara that you activate with a little bit of water and use a tiny brush on, the kind that was popular before the stuff in the tube. Much less portable and much harder to use, but it seems to be really high quality stuff.
Susie finished up with my hair. "Oh you look so beautiful!" She gushed happily. I think she's in a good mood today because she too will get out of the castle to visit the festival, in fact most of the castle members will get to. Minus the knights of course, they don't really get days off, given if they did an enemy would take the chance to strike and Aero believes in a no weakness stance; he's very pro war and pro power.
She pushed as hard as she could, trying to get me out of the door. You know as much as a ten year old could push an adult. "Hurry up the King is waiting!" She exclaimed, huffing and puffing from all of the effort.
I chuckled and went ragdoll, acting all limp to fluster her more, but got back up and walked out the door after a couple of minutes.
"There you are. You're late." A rough masculine voice grumbled, which of course was Aero, angry it had taken me so long to get ready.
He took my hand and let it to the carriage, then helping me get up the steps. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but stepping in a long tight dress is pretty difficult. "Thanks." I mumbled an insincere appreciation.
He climbed in after me, sitting much closer than I'd prefer. I tried to inch away but in response he huffed and put his arm around me, pulling me back in.
“I see you still haven’t fallen in love with me.” He commented, making me sharply turn his way.
“Why would I?” I countered.
“Oh lets see.” He began, holding his fingers up, counting off as he went. “I’m rich, powerful, a king, I can give you anything you want, oh and I’m sexy.”
“You forgot an egotistical asshole.” I commented, shrugging my shoulders and turned away.
The carriage suddenly hit a massive bump, causing me to launch forward. Aero barely even had to react, reaching his arm out easily catching me, bringing me onto his lap.
“My Queen. You must be more careful.”
