While the Being rummaged through the debris of his ship, Roh laid out a small blanket she had brought and sat by a tree stump. She watched the Being struggle to collect all his things.
“What’s your name? My name is Roh Pau’Muu. My family are wheat farmers and we herd Mutyiks. They’re big and fluffy. Great for riding and eating! My father usually prepares the meat when he’s home. I can bring you some next time.
What’s your name?”
The Being wasn’t used to someone taking such interest in them. On his planet, tribes would focus mostly on survival and violence. Hesitant, he thought about whether he should answer Roh’s question
“...My name is Tinginn [phonetic;Ten-Gin].”
Roh’s mouth stretched into a big smile. “Tinginn! That’s a cool name! What planet do you come from? Does everyone look like you?”
Tinginn sighed and gave up on retrieving the rest of his belongings. He walked to a nearby tree by Roh and leaned his back against it. Looking up into the sky he continued to converse with Roh.
Tinginn was part of a species called the Dathomirian Zabraks, from the planet Dathomir of the Dathomir System. On his planet, all males would have horns on their head. Most had peach or yellow skin, and even rarer, red skin. Face tattoos and markings were the norm. The females were quite the opposite. None bore horns and their skin was pale and white. Many Dathormirian were force-sensitive and embellished in darkness. Few were exceptional at manipulating the force and went on to be trained by masters, Tinginn being one of them.
While Roh was quite talkative before, she was now captivated by Tinginn’s story of his home planet. She noticed he mentioned ‘the force’ and ‘force-sensitive’ a few times now. She was curious what it was, why it related to his light sword and how he knew she was ‘force-sensitive’.
“Okay, enough with the ‘light sword’. This,” He grabbed the hilt from his belt, “It’s called a lightsaber. Only those well trained in the force can carry these. They are extremely dangerous weapons but can be used to protect those important to you.”
Roh stared at the lightsaber, once again feeling a strong pull towards it. Roh asked, “Can I be trained to use the force?”
“Hmm… It’s hard to say.” Tinginn cupped his chin and furrowed his brow in thought. “Let’s put you up to the test.”
Bending down and picking up a hand-sized rock, Tinginn began walking away from Roh and turned to face her. Roh stood up, confused on what this test might be. She’d never done a test before, all she knew was field work and catching little creatures in the forest.
“See this rock in my hand? Without moving from where you’re standing, take the rock from me.”
“W-what?”
“You heard me, take the rock.”
Now Roh was very confused. She tilted her head and looked at him with the most dumbfounded face. How could one move a rock without moving from the place in which they stood? Rocking her head side to side, she stopped and stared hard at the outstretched rock in Tinginn’s hand.
Focused now, Roh’s breathing slowed and she could feel the rock pulling her just like the lightsaber did. As if a string was attached to her wrist, she slowly raised her hand and gently placed it in front of her, palm faced up. The tips of her fingers welled up in warmth and it quickly seeped to her palms and through her arm. The trees around her started to rustle and dust swirled around her. In that moment, she could see the rock floating! It was floating right towards her!
Roh’s eyes were wide. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, and yet, it was happening right in front of her. The rock hovered over her palm and gently fell into her hand. Too amazed at what just happened, Roh didn’t notice Tinginn make a small smile at her first experience using the force.
