You shove the letter into your best friend’s palm, interrupting him mid-sentence. Slowly, he opens it and reads every line of your confession in the middle of this mediocre cafe while an awful remix of Most Palone plays in the background. Tears of joy stream down his cheeks as the true meaning of this letter strikes him. The next thing you know, his arms are wrapped around you as he tells you that he’s felt the same for a while now, but he was too afraid to make a move and jeopardize your friendship. His lips are soft and tender and sweet as they press against yours. The cafe bursts into applause as strangers congratulate you two as a new couple. You both laugh through your kisses, wondering why it took so long for your feelings to be realized.
Your honeymoon period is four months of pure bliss. You shower each other with little gifts, visit every trendy eatery in town, and share quite a few steamy nights together. On your fifth monthaversary, however, you notice he’s more distant than usual. These past few days have been rough. He’s been particularly stressed by his classes and recently fought with his parents. You’ve also noticed, anxiously, how the spark between you two seems to be dying, or perhaps is already dead. He rarely makes eye contact and takes hours to respond to your texts. Two weeks later, your fears are confirmed, and he tells you he has feelings for someone else. You might consider going back to a previous decision to see what went wrong (good luck with that, fam). Otherwise, go to (R).
