Life has been even better since Jesse joined in on the secret. Chantel no longer has to mince words whenever she is with him. Soon, Linda and Robert learned about Jesse's inclusion in this weird circus Darren and she were in. At first, they were uneasy with Jesse knowing all this information but; they knew there was nothing they could do about it. Chantel and Jesse were at Darren’s place, where the three of them had not been in the same room together for a while.
Darren sat at his study desk, Chantel was on the ground with a sharp knife in her hand, while Jesse laid on Darren's bed, throwing his small basketball back and forth in the air. She made a slight cut in her skin, while her best friend, Jesse, winced at the sight.
“Do you really need to do that, J-ia? I’m surprised you haven’t gotten in the hospital for loss of blood.” He stopped throwing his basketball and sat back up, “Is doing this stuff even necessary?”
Putting the knife down, Chantel looked up at Jesse and said, “Yeah, it’s for practice and to keep Aura Malady at bay. Don’t worry about it, if I concentrate, I can heal myself.”
“She used to be bad at using her powers to heal herself months ago.” Darren remarked, which Chantel glared back at him, harshly.
“And I have improved plenty! And I’m only going to get better! As soon as I learn the more ‘advanced’ part of my powers, I will be fine!”
While Chantel stopped practicing, she noticed all the cuts on her skin were healing each time as each orange glow patched up her skin. She took a deep breath in relief that she is, at least, getting better at learning the basics of being a BioKinetic. Suddenly, Chantel heard a knock on the window and looked over to see a black raven, holding a brown bracelet with a diamond in the middle. Watching, Darren got up to open the window, then he took the bracelet from the raven. Also, she observed Darren grabbed a bag at the side of the table and his wallet.
He fed the raven and took out money from his wallet. When he wrapped the money around the raven’s leg securely, Darren bid the bird farewell as it flew away.
“What is that?” Jesse asked Darren.
“A magical object to contact the spiritual realm. I need it to contact Jasper and Millie.” Darren explained, then he put the bracelet on the table.
“Right... So, how do we stop Jasper and Millie from haunting us and ruining our gigs?” Jesse said.
“Millie told us we needed to warn the other artists about our label, Crimson Crown Group, and she wouldn’t tell us why through. Also, I need to get my amulet from Mark.” Darren scratched his head and continued, “I just wish she told me what danger we’re getting into. It’s already clear that Rise of Light is shady, but what does Crimson Crown Music Group have to do with this?”
Chantel ties her long, black hair into a bun, “Maybe Jasper and Millie are just angry about the mistakes they made when Midnight Force disbanded and they are taking it out on everyone. I mean, Millie was a huge drug addict when she was alive. Do you know how many stories there are of her performing clearly high or intoxicated at their concerts? As for Jasper, well... he was a douchebag to you, just as Mark and Marco were. Maybe he just pissed at Mark for something when the band disbanded?”
“Yeah, if Millie and Jasper are haunting you? How come they aren’t doing it to Marco and Mark?!” Jesse said, getting off his bed and walking over to Darren’s desk.
If anything Chantel learned about Midnight Force, Midnight Force’s story is a story about success and tragic downfall. She knew little of Marco, except that both Millie and Marco were the two of the biggest druggies in the band. Those two were like two birds of a feather when they were with drugs. She wonders if there is anything more to the story to the band’s downfall that could connect to all the odd things happening to them.
“No one has seen Marco in years, and I don’t think Mark has seen him since Millie and Jasper died. I think Mark may have known they were haunting him. I have a hunch on why he gave his choker to me. It wasn’t to remember Millie at all! I think he was trying to sabotage me!” He exclaimed.
“Well, that may make sense and I wouldn’t put it past Mark to do that. His ‘nice boy‘ act towards you sounds fake as hell from what you told me.” Chantel sighed, rubbing her head in stress. “Argh, we have too many issues going on at once!” Her head spun from dealing with the mystery of the Rise of Light to the haunting from Millie and Jasper.
“Why don’t we just focus on one at a time? I mean, you guys obviously know a lot that’s going on more than I do. Maybe the Rise of Light thing would be a start? Why do they want you guys so much?” Jesse said, attempting to bring the focus on the main issue.
Chantel thought to herself for a second and said, “They wanted to help us, considering we’re Supernaturals. But lately, they have been wanting to help Darren, Leticia, and I on other things like power management or something like that. But Nico Travolo, the new CEO of the company, apparently knows about the Rise of Light and a couple other Supernatural artists. He told us to join them for protection, which I don’t know why he would suggest that. Then again, there is the issue with Rose….”
“Like how the hell do we know we can trust her?! That woman is running around, impersonating five girls and lying about her actual name!” Darren shouted.
Chantel’s eyes directed at him, cleaning his wand with a cloth, then he continued. “She just sounds shady, period.”
Jesse played with his little basketball in his hands then commented, “Have you guys ever thought there may be a reason Lily… I mean, Rose would do this? People don’t act like this out of nowhere, and she may be clearly doing this for a reason. I don’t know, but we should contact the authorities.”
Chantel chuckled at Jesse’s suggestion, which sounded like a poor joke to her. No one was going to believe them on this.
She remarked, “Right, the police… The same people who wiped our memories just to cover up the events are gonna help us, Jesse?! Get real! You should know better than to suggest that!”
“Chantel, I’m just saying we have to do something. If we let this issue sit very long, I don’t know how much worse it could get for us!” Jesse warned as she wanted to protest, until Darren butted in before Jesse and her argued.
“First, no one is going to the police because it would risk Chantel and I being outed as Supernaturals and that’s bad. Second, we don’t have any proof that these issues are going on, other than people’s words. Third, we need to find people, who we can trust, first before going out and babbling about this.” Darren placing his wand back on his desk and rolling his computer chair to where Chantel and Jesse were in the middle of the room. “So, here is the plan: Try to get as much information that we can about the amulet, Rise of Light, Jasper, and Millie thing. Jesse, you lie low because it’s safer for you to play dumb right now. Chantel, you tell Leticia about Rose. Let Leticia decide if she wants to tell Dakota and her band about everything.” He plotted, at least, a basic plan to start, which made Chantel blinked.
She wonders if Darren means they can keep on pretending, as if everything is normal in order to find more information. However, Chantel knew that Darren and she got too deep into this and this could turn dangerous!
He was right about one thing: They need to map out the people that they can trust before they could do anything else.
Taking out her phone to see a text message from Cho, the Apple Queens sugar addict and bassist, of the group. Then, Chantel just remembered that she had scheduled a time to meet with her to hang out after the Apple Queens band practice with Cho’s twin sister, Sora.
Chantel figured, if there was a best time to tell Leticia, she might as well tell them now. Texting Cho back, she asked Leticia to stay put for a moment, until she got there. After that, Chantel packed herself in her big purse bag and got up from the floor, then looked at Jesse and Darren.
“I gotta go. Don’t worry, I’m gonna tell Leticia right now.” Waving goodbye to her friends, she headed to the door, going to complete one part of Darren’s plan.
