The man in brown felt a bit of pity for her. He knew what it was like to be skin and bone. He knew the pain of hunger. But he also knew he couldn’t be distracted here. He had to escape. Reluctantly, he took advantage of her not paying attention. Creating three bombs, he tossed them all high into the air. Caught off guard, she watched the bombs fly up, only for a split second. Enough time for him to close the distance, bomb in hand. The cloaked girl was sent flying from the explosive uppercut to the jaw. Blood spewed from her mouth as she was launched at least six feet into the air.
Grimacing, the man in brown watched as blood landed on his gray shirt. Then he looked in time to see the girl land on her head as the three bombs from earlier fell on-top of her. The resulting explosion was two stories high.
“Maybe… Maybe I’ve overdone it.” He thought, “She’s a fellow Create User. I had to go all out. She is really strong and tough… But can her Augment protect her from an explosion like that?”
Meanwhile, back at the mafia base, the blind girl sat on a pile of unconscious bodies. She sighed, disappointed, as she leaned her elbows on her knees. A few groans could be heard throughout the gun-smoke filled room.
“One day… I’m bound to find someone strong enough.” She muttered, “One day.”
The man in brown turned away from the smoke pillar that encompassed the cloaked girl; his face full of regret. He turned his gaze up to the other threat, the man in white. The man in brown felt annoyed that this man in white, who stood proud like a lion, kept looking down on him. This whole time the man in white hadn’t made a single move.
“Does he feel that confident in catching me?” The man in brown though.
“Absolutely pathetic. I can’t believe she’s this bad at fighting.” The man in white thought, “I give her the most amateur of Create Users, and shes fumbling around like an infant.”
The man in white couldn’t help but scowl.
“I’ll give her a few more minutes… Then I’ll catch this scum.” He thought, “Then maybe I can call it an early day and treat this migraine. Wait… Am I out of aspirin? Gods I have such a headache.”
All the man in brown saw was the man in white scowl. This infuriated him. He could no longer hide his anger and disgust at this man in white.
“FUCK YOU!” He shouted “ALL THIS! OVER SOME DRUGS!”
He held out his arm, and underneath it a giant missile was rapidly created.
“GO TO HELL!”
The missile flew off towards the man in white. When it was but mere inches away from his face, he tilted his head slightly and completely avoided it. Then, in a motion so quick that time itself appeared to be at a standstill, he raised one arm and bent both wings on the missile in such a way that it would be forced to fly directly upwards. He then returned to his original position and when the missile completely avoided him, it appeared that he never moved. The missile proceeded to fly straight up and beyond the clouds before it could be heard exploding.
“It’d be a hindrance to buy some here. Maybe I can pick some up at that store back at the Cross docks. What was it called again… Shaylin’s Shop of Junk?” The man in white thought, “Wait, Shaylin. Gods, her… I’d better take my chances here. Might get lucky… Not draw attention.”
“Did… I miss?” The man in brown was stunned.
He turned around when he heard coughing behind him. There he saw the cloaked girl emerge from the smoke. He felt a bit of relief when he saw her hurt, but alive. However, it was quickly replaced with impatience as she stumbled forward.
“I can still fight.”
“It’s not over yet.”
“You’re done for.”
She collapsed.
He was starting to feel annoyed.
With a snap of his fingers he created rows of bombs, and they flew towards the collapsed girl like a snake. With a series of consecutive explosions, she was launched into a pile of wooden rowing oars nearby. Surely she had to be defeated now. The explosions were weaker, but it was still enough to fling her into the air. His annoyance increased even further as he saw her emerge from the pile, now holding an oar. This one had two chips on the middle of the blade and parallel to each other. Armed with this oar, she watched in horror and amazement as he raised both arms and created enough bombs to fill the entire visible sky. He was done fucking around. He had to escape NOW!
The man in brown was using a lot of Drive energy. Creating this many bombs was exhausting. But he knew the threats before him required it. With this much noise, it wouldn’t be long before people took notice. So he had to finish this in one go. More, more, more! He kept pumping Drive into his creations. Bombs kept appearing and appearing. The mental energy it took to visualize all the chemical, components, and layout for each individual bomb was almost as draining as the Drive consumed. He never created this much before, and if he had his way, he never would again. It was simply too much effort. After this attack, he’d only have enough Drive for his ace in the hole… If it came to that.
It was absolutely staggering. The sheer number of bombs was overwhelming. The cloaked girl felt stunned, she wasn’t sure if she could handle so many. They covered the buildings the sky, the moon, and the clouds. It was like a swarm of locust and it kept growing bigger and bigger. In all her life she’s never seen so much being created! If they all exploded at once then everything, and everyone, would be reduced to ash. There would be nothing left. Dread crept into her as she prepared to fight her terrifyingly powerful foe.
Atop the rooftop the man in white watched. For a Create User in the Humane World, this terrorist was pretty skilled. A few bombs that filled the sky, that was slightly impressive… For a beginner. He then started to wonder if this many bombs would be overwhelming for the cloaked girl. Then again, maybe this would be a good lesson for her about SNEAKING ONTO HIS MISSIONS. Either way, if things got out of hand, then he would step in… And as it stood, this little display was pathetic. Then the cloaked girl took a step forward, forcing herself out of her stupor.
“At least she has courage.” He thought.
She pointed her oar at the man in brown.
“I hope you didn’t think you're the only one who can use Create." She said, “Cause I’m about to fuck you up!"
She raised her left arm, energy began to swirl towards the mark in the center of her left palm, and soon a compressed blue ball of water was formed.
“Water variant, DEAD LIGHT CANNON!”
The ball of water was launched at incredible speeds. It hit the fuse of an approaching bomb and instantly put out it’s spark. Doing a sideways flip over the defused bomb, she landed and prepared to run, only to get hit by a smaller bomb that was hidden behind the first. Smoked filled the area as that bomb exploded in her face. It didn’t stop there, various other bombs were thrown into the smoke pile. A loud collection of booms were heard inside the cloud of ash. The man in brown shielded his face.
“Now I’ve overdone it…” He thought , “Probably.”
A pillar of smoke shot upwards. Instinctually, the man in brown looked up.
“Did she jump?!” He thought.
Then he noticed the smoke disperse and saw the defused bomb. Fooled by the trick, he looked down in time to see the cloaked girl had covered half the distance between them. Acting fast, he jumped back with a grunt as she swung her oar; it barely missed. She spun, preparing to swing again, when she heard some beeping under her foot. Looking down, she saw a landmine right before it exploded.
“Give up kid.” He said, “You’re wasting your time. You’ll never catch me. Go home.”
The girl stumbled out of the smoke caused by the landmine. She held her injured stomach and raised her middle finger.
“Fuck you, Timmy time bomb.” She said, “If failure means that desert, then I’d rather die.”
“… Wot?” He paused, “And my name is Tim!”
“I’m not giving up.”
“Right.”
He shook his head slightly and closed his eyes. Then reopened them despondently.
“I gave you your chance.”
He pointed to her and three waves of bombs appeared in a pincer attack. She deflected them by spinning her oar like a propeller blade.
Waiting for an opening, the cloaked girl found a stray bomb that she launched back towards Timmy. He easily dodged it with a sour look on his face. As she did this, some bombs rolled up to her feet; under the chaos. Luckily she noticed and planted her oar onto the ground. She did a handstand on top of the wooden pole and barely avoided the explosion. Still she was launched a few feet up into the air. Which was perfect for Timmy, who re-directed the cluster of bombs under her. Quickly regaining herself, she managed to do a flip and land on the tidal wave of bombs. As gravity started to pull them down, the cloaked girl surfed on top of them.
Seeing her approach, Timmy launched two giant bombs towards her. She effortlessly slid under the first and jumped over the second, before landing back on the crashing bomb wave. Rapidly approaching Timmy, she raised her oar and prepared to swing. She jumped off the bombs and fell straight towards him, before painfully crashing into the brick wall he quickly created at the last second. It didn’t show on his face, but the man in white was slightly amused. Timmy, on the other hand, sucked in some air through his teeth and scrunched his face when he heard the impact.
Still stuck to the wall, the cloaked girl was completely flooded under all the bombs. Without a seconds delay, the collective bombs exploded with enough force to punch a hole through the clouds. The glass of all the nearby buildings were shattered from the shockwave alone and Timmy nearly lost his balance; and hat. The man in white didn’t move his head, he was expressionless, but somehow he still gave off an annoyed aura. Timmy was jaw dropped, he did not expect THAT much explosive force.
Above the ocean, the sun began to set, and the sky changed from vivid yellow to fiery red. This is what the cloaked girl saw for a split second, before she was sent flying. Now airborne, she saw the approaching violet night with its various stars. Floating above the clouds, she felt like the moon was closer than ever before. She even imagined seeing peaks of various red smoke stacks penetrating those clouds. Lost in the awe of this moment, she almost forgot about the incredible pain she was currently in. Soon, she would fall, and bring the dark with her.
The man in white turned his head slightly upwards. .
"She could died from a fall of that height...” He thought.
“SHIT!” Timmy said, “I’VE… I’ve never gone all out like this before… I didn’t think I’d be THIS powerful.”
Both men watched as the cloaked girl fell from above. While she fell, she prepared another Dead Light Cannon and took aim at Timmy. He was shocked to see this girl more focused on her attack rather than her situation. The man in while held a little smirk; he was impressed.
Suddenly, the murder of crows that sat atop the town hall building acted up. The most eerie looking crow of the group opened its beak and released a surreal white mist. Following this act, a massive swarm of approximately a hundred crows flew out and moved about in such a way that they appeared to be an unnatural shadowy tendril.
The crows flew towards the cloaked girl, bombarding her with their feathery bodies. She lost concentration on the charging Dead Light Cannon and it fizzled away. Not letting the surreal situation distract him, Timmy created a safety net where the cloaked girl was falling. Before she knew it, she was caught and quickly entangled in the ropes. Timmy approached while she struggled to break free of all her binds.
“I don’t want to hurt you…” He said “So please… don’t make me hurt you.”
Timmy then turned to the man in white; who stood still like a statue.
"I AM NOT A TERRORIST! I only wanted some medicine."
He whispered, head down and eyes shut tight. Raising his determined face, he created a bomb in his hand and threw it directly downward. A massive smokescreen enveloped the area, obscuring everything within from sight. Timmy quickly turned to run, but suddenly tripped. He looked down at his left foot and noticed it covered in a black substance.
“Wot the fuck… is that tar?” He asked
Timmy tried to pull his foot out of it, but when he did all that came out was his ankle… the remainder of his foot was gone, and the tar on his ankle was still eating its way up.
“WOT THE FUCK! MY FOOT!” He shouted “I DIDN’T EVEN FEEL IT RIP OFF!”
He watched in horror as the tar continued its way up his left leg, causing sections below to crumble like ash, without him feeling a single thing. Then he saw the ropes snap due to some sort of object hitting them. That object rolled up to him, it was a small pebble… And it came from the direction of the man in white.
“There’s no way… That’s impossible. There’s no way that fucker cut a thick rope, from that distance, with a smooth pebble.” Timmy thought, “I’m in serious trouble. Every second I waste puts me in more dange-”
Before he could finish that thought, police sirens were heard in the distance.
“I’M OUT OF TIME! If the local police recognize my face, I’ll have no-where to hide.” He thought, “I knew the risks of learning Create, I took that gamble… I have to. I need to gamble again to escape.
Timmy looked down at his tar covered leg. The black substance was still eating its way up past his ankle; he didn’t feel a thing. He hesitated for a moment, thinking about breaking into that store. If only he broke in at a different time. Waited until he knew it was clear. He was just so desperate. He needed that drug now. He kicked down the metal door and grabbed the one thing he came for. But he wasn’t cautious enough, those two came to investigate the noise. They saw the dented metal and knew. They knew and they were both Cross military.
He couldn’t help but feel a wave of grief and regret… Now his leg was being destroyed by some sort of unnatural tar. He pulled out the crumpled medical bill, stared at it, and prepared himself for this decision.
“Please… Let me endure this moment long enough to escape.”
