Hello,
This is not an addition to the novel, it’s more just some information in case people are curious. You can skip ahead to the next chapter if you’d like as nothing in here is part of the story.
The Faery Realm is well over 15,000-20,000 years old, exact dates are unsure as there are no living faeries from the first born faeries.
Faeries live anywhere from 8,000 years to 12,000 years of age, although living past 10,000 years old is almost unheard of. The oldest faery is King Oberon. (OOH SO ORIGINAL) at 14,000 years. He was crowned when he was only 2,000 years of age, which is shockingly young for a King.
The Faery realm consists of three rims, the inner rim houses the most important faeries, the middle rim houses sentries and some high up common faeries, and the outer rim houses mainly common faeries and the hunter guild. There are taverns and libraries in each rim, and a couple of shady brothels only on the outer rim.
There are three guilds a faery can be a part of, although the faery doesn’t choose which guild they belong to. Some faeries never receive a commendation and are thought of simply as common faeries. They live out their long lives like any being would. Some work in taverns, or libraries, or as cooks. The only way to receive a commendation is if the High Council offers it to you.
The three commendations are: Mage, Sentry, or Hunter. The Mage are considered the most gifted and special faeries in all the realm. A very small amount of faeries ever become mages. The Sentry commendation is a relatively common guild, it has the largest number of faeries. They are considered well off and better than common faeries. Sentries pride themselves on protecting the realm, but they are more or less useless. The Hunter guild is the lowest guild, they are looked down on by every other guild and even thought to be less than a common faery.
You cannot turn down a commendation from the high council.
The High Council is a group of nine old faeries who were once gifted mages. They decide on all rules and regulations in the realm. They are considered the most knowledgeable apart from the king himself. The High Council are tasked with the history of the realm and the responsibility of all its inhabitants.
Every faery starts out as a common faery, but if they are meant to receive a commendation it usually begins to show before they turn 400. Mages are often far more fair and beautiful than other faeries, they frequently have purple eyes although that is not necessary. Young faeries who become mages usually have an unnatural thirst for knowledge and abilities from a very young age.
Hunter faeries are more often than not bulkier than the normal faery, their hair is usually dark so as to not attract attention, and their wings usually come in later and are harsher to look at, but built more durable than any other faery breed. They are often considered to be less knowledgeable because they are more volatile of creatures.
Each commendation have to take certain oaths they must adhere to, the most strict is that of the mage because they carry more responsibility. Mage are not allowed to drink or take herb, nor are they allowed sexual or romantic relations of any kind as their sole purpose is to serve the realm.
Sentries have few oaths other than to protect the realm.
Hunters do not have many oaths beyond to always serve the High Council and to never kill another hunter.
Faeries in general rarely enter into romantic relationships to a point that it is almost considered myth that faeries could ever really love another being.
