Alex and Aero took their argument outside to the garden, which was much bigger than it sounds. It was a huge garden and a splendid one. They choose to have their sword fight there, ordering everyone but Alex and Aero’s knights to vacate. I was among the few allowed to stay and watch despite Max’s objections.
“You know if you give up now you don’t have to taste bitter defeat.” Aero mocked, drawing his sword.
“As if I’d ever lose in front of my beautiful wife.” Alex responded. “I must bring honor to my family, not like you’d know what that’s like.”
“I think your beautiful wife wants you to lose just as badly as I do.” Aero responded winking at me, I couldn’t help but giggle in response. I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was trying to flirt with me. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone as handsome as him hit on me, it probably even made me blush.
This infuriated Alex, probably more so because it was stepping on his territory, honestly, I don’t believe he actually gives a damn about me. “How dare you!” He drew his sword and made the first strike. CLINK! The swords clashed as Aero used his to block as well.
“Careful there brother, wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself!” Aero responded, striking back with a devastating blow, sending Alex backward a bit.
They exchanged hard hitting blows from the sword until Aero gave one last devastating blow, knocking the sword clean out of Alex’s hands and leaving a gash on his arm. It didn’t seem that deep.
I stood watching, excited from the action. Max stepped beside me, trying to be sly. He gave me a few nudges until I realized what he was hinting toward. “Oh!” I gasped. “Oh no! Alexander are you hurt?” Even though I didn’t think I sounded convincing, I rushed to his side and put on a show. “Come on dear, let’s get this wound taken care of! I wouldn’t want you getting an infection or anything.” I grabbed his arm and guided him inside without looking back. It seemed Alex was also putting on a show acting all loving to me in return.
Once we were safely out of earshot from everyone else I released his arm and returned back to normal. “Damn you got got!”
“I got what?” He seemed perplexed by the phrase.
“Got, got. I don’t think it’s really that popular anymore where I come from, but didn’t really stop saying it.”
“What’s it mean? I got got? Its just really weird is all.” We made it to the doctor’s room in the castle but stood outside while we talked.
“It means you got got, like you’re screwed, I don’t know how to translate it.” I opened the door to see the doctor on duty scribbling away furiously in a leather bound book. I guess regular spiral bound notebooks probably weren’t too popular here.
“King Lee!” He gasped, ushering Alex inside.”Here please sit down. NURSE!” A young girl entered the room, she had on a white ankle length dress that seemed really light and easy to move in, but any mobility was probably hindered by the heels she wore. Which seemed to be common for all women here, do they even have sneakers or tennis shoes? The heels weren’t high but if you’re on your feet all day any kind of heel could hurt. Maybe they’re just used to it? I always wondered about that watching tv shows that took place in the forties or old classic movies. Women in those shows would go on walks in heels or like push their baby stroller around with heels like it was nothing. At least in the tv shows I watched they never seemed to complain. Maybe it’s just something they got used to, I for one am practically dying by wearing heels all the time. My feet hurt and I find myself trying to sit down more.
Alex sat on the patient bed. “Gwen I won’t be long, go back and let Aero know.” He gestured me out the door. I’m still having a hard time getting used to being called Gwen or Gwendayln in public. Which reminds me I still wanted to visit the real Gwen later. I hope she’s still doing well today. It’s weird, as far as I know Alex hasn’t actually been visiting her that frequently anymore, but Gwen hasn’t said a word about it. Women here are just way too passive, I’d have a cow if this was me in her situation.
“Yes dear.” I replied, doing a curtsy then exited the door to find Aero.
I found him chilling in the garden still, sitting on a bench near the pond. He seemed deep in thought. “King Aero, Alexander is getting his wound looked at by the doctor, he shouldn’t be long. May I keep you company until he is back?” I must have startled him as he jumped slightly at my voice. He seemed deep in thought.
“Oh, yeah sure. Have a seat.”
I sat down gracefully in the open spot next to him, It was a bit too close for comfort. Trying to make small talk I quickly thought of conversation. “How is your kingdom in the north doing?”
He seemed surprised by the question. “Quite well actually, recent expansion has actually left the kingdom bigger than this one with less poverty and illness rates, resulting in less death. Your husband may have the kingdom he inherited from dear old daddy, but he sure doesn’t run it well.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying our kingdom is trash?” I huffed, a little offended since I have put so much time and effort within the few months I have been here, despite having no say so in anything. I’ve been mostly for appearances.
He seemed a bit taken back by my response. No doubt expecting an elegant answer. Bitch this ain’t no beauty pageant. “Well maybe if you spent more time governing instead of picking out which necklace goes best with your eyes then your kingdom would be in better shape. You fail your kingdom as queen.” He stated simply without much emotion in his tone.
“Ooooooohhh so that’s how it’s gonna be huh? I was trying to act good for Alex’s sake but heellll nooo. It’s on! You wanna go bitch?” I let anger take over, who the hell was he to insult me. “I may not know how to use a sword but I’ll cat fight you, 1v1 me bitch.”
At first he looked extremely shocked but then burst out laughing. “ I don’t know half of what you said, but I wouldn’t pick a fight with the man who successfully overthrew a kingdom. Here, feel.” He jumped off the bench and grabbed my hand, placing it firmly on his chest. I could feel his tight lean muscles underneath. “Feel that, it’s the body of a man who has killed many.”
I quickly swiped my hand back and stumbled back away from him, he was much too close. “What are you going to do, kill me too? The wife of your brother?” Once you turn the sass on there’s no turning it off.
He looked at me sceptically. “Just who are you? You’re not Gwendalyn.”
“Uhhhhhh.”
