Tyura lay in the middle of the floor with his arms outstretched. He didn't care about the dust on the floor or the insects that crawled over him or the throbbing in his foot. All he could focus on was the burning in his hollow stomach. He could feel his hunger in every bone and joint in his body. He was hungry with every fiber of his being.
In his world, his body had grown beyond the needs of a normal human. Although he was still human, he rarely ate or slept. He had been bathed in spiritual power for so long that his whole body had changed. But now...he was so hungry he could die. Literally.
But maybe dying would be a good thing. Maybe if he died he could go home.
Maybe not.
Maybe instead, he would be trapped there as a wondering ghost forever.
Maybe.
Maybe.
Maybe...
No way!
With a yell, Tyura swung his arm up and flipped himself over. Used all the strength he had to push himself off the floor. He stopped there. A bead of sweat ran down his nose as his knees and arms trembled.
He didn't think he could stand, no he knew he couldn't stand. It was impossible. Yesterday he was running on adrenaline or fear, or both. But now he had nothing.
Tyura licked his dry lips, but his tongue was also dry so there was no relief.
Fine, if he couldn't walk then...
Tyura looked around. Of course, no one was there, but what he was about to do, he wouldn't want even a shadow to see this.
He crawled. Never in his life had he done something so humiliating. His entire body heated up from the shame. He didn't want to imagine how he looked. Being naked and crawling in the dirt like a baby. He wanted to laugh and cry as he made his way out the door.
"Are you enjoying this? Seeing someone like me crawling? After you've had your fill of entertainment send me home!"
The only thing Tyura was thankful for at the moment was the soft dirt that cushioned his hands and knees. There wasn't any particular direction he wanted to go. It wasn't like he knew which way was which anyway, so he decided to just go forward.
As he crawled, Tyura tried to take in some of the scenery. Trees, trees, and more trees. Tyra didn't see any difference between them. He had never been one to notice these types of things. He wasn't like one of those hunters in his world. They had to rely on scratch marks and footprints to find demonic beings. Tyura only had to look. Now he wished he would have taken a few hunting lessons.
Ten minutes hadn't even passed but Tyura was already panting. His arms quivered and his head felt too heavy for his neck to support.
"Just a break. I'll just-."
Tyura had just slumped down onto his elbows when he heard a crack behind him, followed by a clicking sound.
Tyura righted himself immediately. His eyes were wide and alert. Some of his previous exhaustion seemed to disappear in an instant. Normally a sound like that would be nothing to him, but now, while he was in this frail body...
He didn't wait. Tyura began to crawl again only to hear the clicking sound again.
Only this time it was a little closer.
Tyura increased his pace as much as he could. If he tried to turn his body to see what it was, he would lose balance and collapse right there.
As he moved faster the sound followed him, getting closer and closer.
"Get away!"
Tyura couldn't take the suspense any longer and turned, throwing his hand out, preparing to smack whatever was chasing him.
But before he could land a hit, he fell. But it wasn't from his body giving out as he expected.
Instead, it was the ground. The previously flat ground suddenly had a sharp dip.
Tyura gave a started gasp and put both his hand in front of him to stop himself from sliding down the slope, but then his body really did give out, causing him to face plant in the dirt. He flipped over himself and began his tumble downward and as he did he caught a glimpse of a fluffy brown tail at the top of the slope.
You have got to be kidd-
Tyura hit a rock and all thoughts were lost. All he could focus on was trying to stop himself from falling. For a split second he tried to use his powers to float, but then quickly remembered that he didn't have any. There was nothing he could do but squeeze his eyes shut and wait for the fall to be over.
Finally Tyura crashed into something bushy. He hissed as he felt pain prick his skin, like there were tiny little needles and slowly opened his eyes.
He was shocked to see a blackberry dangling in his face. Tyura glanced around and saw that he was tangled in a blackberry bush and beyond that were many more bushes.
Tyura blinked and then started to laugh only to stop as pain racked his body. Still, he smiled and bit the berry hanging in front of him.
What are the odds that he would fall right into the thing he was looking for?
"You're really funny you know that?" Tyura chuckled and then sighed, letting his head drop back into the thorn vines behind him.
