All my senses were tingling that morning. I could feel the October wind warming my face as I kept my eyes closed and listened to the noises around me. The mindless chatter of the crowd walking around me was somehow comforting and helped me focus.
I slowly opened my eyes and blinked at the sudden bright sunlight in my eyes. I could see the different groups of people gathered around the esplanade, cheerfully socializing while they waited for the beginning of their classes.
For some reason, I had woken up with the feeling that something would happen that day, so I expectantly sat there on my bench, scanning from person to person.
“Hey babe! Are we going to stay here much longer or…?”
I jumped a little at the sudden burst of sound. I looked down to my side, where my good friend was lazily resting against my body. I could see she was bored to the core, sighing as she flipped through the pages of her comic book. I smiled a little and patted the top of her soft chestnut hair with my hand.
“Patience, love” I reassured her, my voice almost a hush. “Everything comes in due time!”
I could hear her mumbled “Yeah, yeah…” which brought another grin on my lips.
I raised my eyes back to the crowd in front of me.
After what seemed like an hour of focusing, I sighed disappointedly. “Maybe we should go after all…”
But as I was about to get up from the bench, reaching for my handbag, my eyes darted to the entrance of the university and stopped on a beautiful young woman stepping in the vicinity. My eyes widened.
“I haven’t seen that girl before…” I thought, frowning.
The new student, a voluptuous asian woman with mahogany hair, walked with confidence towards the main double doors of the school. It seemed like she was totally oblivious of the insistent gaze that all the men she walked by gave her.
Still following the girl with my eyes, I took an heavy breath and raised my arm in front of me.
I closed my eyes, concentrated for a few seconds and started tracing a sign in the air.
“Revelare!” I murmured as I finished the gesture.
I felt a ball of heat burst in my stomach and rush up my body, the wave of warm energy crawled along my arm and ended its course at the tip of my index finger.
Suddenly, a pearl of dark purple energy appeared and flared straight towards the new girl. I could also feel my eyes become tingly, and I knew that they now matched the color of that orb of energy.
The trail left by the sphere was only visible to me, it swirled around the various figures in the way and quickly reached the girl.
“Ouch!” the curvy girl exclaimed.
The orb had hit her in the back of her neck, right at the base of her spine. She was now rubbing the painful area, looking around her with a confused look. After a few seconds, she resumed her walk to the entrance of the building, she was clearly puzzled by what happened.
My friend, still sitting right next to me, had obviously seen everything. She stared intensely at me with her green eyes and asked with a raised eyebrow:
“Did you find anything interesting?”
I lowered my arm and grinned. My eyes were still glued to the back of the young woman.
“Mmh… Indeed, love!” I said, nibbling my lower lip. “I think I discovered something VERY interesting!”
I turned my face towards my friend and winked at her. We both got up from the bench; I took her hand in mine and lead her in the same direction as the girl.
