Emma’s point of view
“I can’t believe you started a scene just for money, you know we have a debt to pay.” My aunt was furiously lecturing me while holding a piece of cold red meat on my leech of a cousin.
“Yeah, you know I would have paid it by now, if you had helped us more.” he grimaced from trying to stand up while my aunt was putting pressure.
“I think I have helped enough, I already helped pay one debt.” I was getting tired of having to listen to them but I couldn’t separate from them. They are my only blood family and my aunt is my mom’s identical twin. Through her face I could still see my mom, even if with her mouth I didn’t.
“Your cousin is right, your mother raised such an insolent child, she would be so disappointed in you, she should have given you a beating when she could.” The more she kept talking, the more I just wanted to punch someone, preferably the leech of the family. The one sitting down in a chair, while complaining how much I was not helping, and how my parents were stupid for not raising me better.
Not wanting to deal with them anymore, I stood up abruptly causing the chair to make a loud noise against the floor.
“Yes, you are right. Here is the money. Also, you need some... here.” I put the cash that he was trying to take before, and grabbed a piece of meat from the bag. Putting as much pressure as I could I put it on his cheek, and watched as he jumped from his chair cursing but before anything could happen I ran.
“Hey!! What do you think you are doing?! Rude child!!!” My aunt screamed but I could only smile at how I left my cousin in pain. I kept running until I was able to get a cab and go to Lily’s house.
While looking at the city with light, I couldn’t help but remember Casey. I was surprised at how he punched my cousin but I couldn’t be happier, since it was something I had wanted to do for a long time.
No,Emma. You can’t fall in love with the guy Lily likes.
As much as I tried to get him out of my mind since the first day I met him, I couldn’t. He was behind his father but he was tall and I could see how serious he looked. I want to know more about him, but I know it will be impossible.
I'm the worst friend ever.
After a few minutes the cab pulled up to Lily’s house or more like a mansion. I paid and started to walk towards the back entrance since I knew that by now everyone was already sleeping. Trying not to make noise I slowly opened the door to find Lily sitting on the counter in a robe with chips on her hand, a laptop on top of the counter and papers scattered around her.
“You came in late, did you go see your family?” she touched a key on the laptop and the sound of the people talking stopped.
“Yeah, don’t have to see them until a week from now.” I took the seat opposite of her and sat down.
“You really…”
“So, are you excited for your arrangement meeting on saturday?”
I already knew what she was going to say, she has been saying it for two years but I won’t do it. I will not take over the small shop because my family will start asking for money as soon as they hear what is happening. Right now, they only know that I am working but not that Lily is my closest friend and I will keep it that way. I don’t want them to bother her because I know she will do anything to help me.
“Yeah, you saw that today I didn’t get nervous when talking, my heart was racing like crazy when I talked to him but I did it.” her smile reached her ears and I knew she is happy, she usually is sometimes scared to do things on her own because of her shyness but when she does something alone, she feels so proud of herself.
“Yeah, anyway, what are you doing here? It’s already twelve.”
“I have to finish some paperwork, but I got tired and decided to start watching videos with a snack.” she waved around the bag of chips.
I couldn’t help but feel guilty that I had caught feelings for the guy she liked.
There are so many, so why him?
“You know I love you, right?” caught off guard she stopped eating her chips and looked at me with a smile.
“I know, love you too.”
“Well, I’m going to sleep.” I stood up and started to walk away when I heard a small good night.
I will never hurt her.
