Looking around their house you could feel the warmth, there were drawing made by a child on the fridge, family portraits where everyone was smiling and more furniture than I have ever had 一 I only had a mattress, a table and chairs, and the necessary utensils to use in the kitchen一 there was no point in decorating since I barely went home, I spent all of my time in the office.
“ You should have taken a seat.” Michelle said once she came out of the room," he is reading her a bedtime story, you want anything to eat?"
“No, but I’ll accept a beer.” I said taking a seat on one of the chairs by the table.
“Beer? Are you worried about something?”
“Yeah, marriage...I’m getting married.”
She froze for a minute before looking back at me and pointing at me,”you?”
I nodded
“ When? Where? Are we invited?... wait, what about… you know….” I could only laugh at how she reacted the same way as Ryan.
“I don’t know the details, your husband does, and no that is still a secret that nobody can know.” I took a sip from the beer and it felt great. Finally, I could get drunk since it was Friday.
“Do you know who you are going to marry?”
“No clue at all.” again I took a long sip this time.
“So, how are you going to handle the marriage?” Michelle said, handing me another beer.
“I have to make her divorce me, so she doesn’t find out who I am.”
“And how are you going to do that? Are you going to be an asshole?”
“That’s not a bad idea…” I raised my eyebrows and contemplated the idea,” no, I can’t do that.”
“I know, you can barely be mean.”
“I agree with Michelle, at the office you even avoid speaking, that’s the only reason people think you are cold.” Ryan said after coming out of his daughter’s room.
“I know what I am going to do.”
Michelle and Ryan looked at each other with narrowed eyes.
“I mean, a girl doesn’t like someone that you barely see or that doesn’t even talk to you,right?”
“Those are the worst.”
“Hey.” Ryan exclaimed
“That’s not you anymore though, honey.”
“Then it’s decided I won’t ever appear in front of her and that will make her want to divorce me.”
Michelle and Ryan looked at each other again but I had made my decision, and I drank the last bit of beer there was on the bottle.
~~~~~4 beers later~~~~
“You know this sucks, why do I have to marry someone I don’t even know. I haven’t even dated anyone.”
“Oh,she is drunk now, she is a complainer.” I could still distinguish their voices but I felt too tired to open my eyes.
“Let’s clean up, and put her in the guest bedroom to sleep.”
“By the way, you tried taking her to a bar again, didn’t you?”
“No… I didn’t… well, maybe but it was just for drinks, I haven’t gone out to a bar in sooo long.”
“ I know… do you regret it?”
“Regret what?” trying to open my eyes became harder, they would automatically close even when I tried to take a peek, and the light was not helping.
“Marrying me?”
Of course not, you changed him
“I mean you lost all of your friends, family, and almost your career because I got pregnant and you decided to marry me. Even when your parents didn’t approve because I was “Not from your world” you went against them. We were too you…”
“Nope… not at all, I may have lost everything but I got something better. Our daughter is four now and I love every moment of it.”
“Do you regret it?”
“Of course not.”
Not being able to stay awake anymore I let myself fall asleep.
