Casey’s Point of view
“Wow, look at you, you work fast, it took me two years before I married my wife.” Ryan kept on talking about the marriage while I kept thinking of ways to get out of it.
“I can’t find a way out of this one, I’m doomed.”
“Yeah, it’s better to just go along with the marriage. Your dad won’t back down either.”
“So, what details did he give you about the woman and everything else?’ I asked, keeping my eyes on the yellow folder that was beside him.
“He only gave me papers about the partnership, a picture of the girl, and a paper with details of the wedding.” he said while handing me the folder and taking a sip of his drink.
“Careful, you can’t be dropping the papers.” he bent down to grab the picture that I had dropped.
“Uhhh, I think you might end up playing the guessing game.” narrowing my eyes in confusion, I grabbed the picture. There were three girls, On the left there was a girl with short black hair and you could tell she was forced to take the picture, On the right there was a girl with long hair and she was smiling, The last girl was in the middle with long hair too and she mostly looked uncomfortable.
By looking at how they dressed, you could tell that the girl in the middle was not comfortable showing her body. I couldn’t figure out who was my fiancée but the chubby girl in the picture looked familiar for some reason.
“I can’t deal with these, not right now anyway.” I stood up from my seat, left more than enough money for everything and started to walk back to the office.
“Before I forget, tomorrow you are going to have dinner at their house.” I stopped walking and looked back.
“Your dad is also going to be there too.”
I started to walk again, Every piece of information was just making me want to crawl into a hole.
Once I got to the office I tried to immerse myself in the work. I didn’t want to think about anything related to a wedding or hiding my identity.
“Sir?” I heard one of the employees timidly call for me.
It was not working at all,”Yes?”
“We were not able to get the deal with the songwriter that keeps getting more popular.”
“Why not?” I looked up at them and they all lowered their heads.
Of course, that always happened.
“Did I hire incompetent people? Because what I am looking at is mediocre work.”
“Sir, he does not want to sign with us because he prefers to be alone, and not pressured by a company.”
“You have a month to get me a meeting with him, if by one month he is not in my office, I will expect your letters of resignation in my office.”
standing up I started to walk towards the office.
“Is there anything else?” Looking through the glass office I could see that the night was getting darker by the minute, instead of a light blue, it had become dark.
“No, that is everything for today.”
“Good, you can leave now too then.”
“Yes, sir, have a good day,”
I need a drink.
Sitting up straight in the chair, I thought of the perfect person. After closing all my emails, organizing the paperwork, and turning off the lights in the office I started to walk to the office that was two doors down from mine.
“Let’s go.” I said to Ryan who was getting ready to leave too.
“Go where?”
“For a drink, I need to relieve my stress in some way.”
“Are we finally going…” he said smiling.
“No, we are not going to a bar, we are going to your house. I haven’t seen Nina in a while either.
“ fine, but all I have is beer.”
The drive to his house was fast which was great since I just wanted to get wasted and forget about today一 I was out of my car as soon as we both parked.
“By the way,how are they?” We both got into the elevator and Ryan pressed the number of his apartment floor.
“You will see when we get there.”
“Uncle Casey! ” The little four year old girl hugged my leg as soon as Ryan opened the door.
“Nina! How has the cutest girl been?”
“Uncle, present?” she said putting her little hands out and making Ryan laugh.
“Nina, you don’t ask that, How have you been?” Michelle asked and grabbed the little girl that was still waiting for her present.
“Sorry, I didn’t bring a present and I’ve been fine, just working. What about you?”
“I have been fine, busy with this girl that is suppose to be going to sleep now, say good night.”
“Good night, uncle.”
“Good night, Nina.”
“I’ll be back, I’m going to put her to sleep, make yourself at home.” Ryan said, putting his stuff on a chair and going into his daughter’s room.
