Lily’s point of view
“Ly...Lily...come on, wake up. Your father is here.”
Using my arms for support I tried to stand up but I could only sit down on the bed zoned out.
“What time is it, Emma?”
“It’s six thirty, but your father wants to have breakfast at seven and talk to you before he leaves again.” she said while opening the curtains that let some of the sunlight come into my room.
Ugh, lights
I let my body flop onto the bed again and tried to cover myself.
“Oh no, you aren’t, you know how long it takes you to wake you up?” she said trying to pull the bed covers away from me.
“I know, I’m sorry but I’m so sleepy and I have work today.”
“I wonder how that feels.” Emma said sarcastically since she always wakes up earlier than everybody and goes to sleep late.
Letting go of the bed covers, I got out of bed and pulled down my shirt, since my rolls were out in the open and I still felt uncomfortable about it. Comparing myself to others was what I did best. Even Though, Emma is my best friend I couldn’t help but compare my black hair to her brown hair and my pale skin to her natural tan skin.
“I’ll help you make breakfast, just let me go change.” I said in a low voice and walked towards the closet to grab a pair of sweatpants and a baggy shirt.
“That’s great, it takes way too much time to cook by myself.” Emma said and we both walked out of the room. Once I entered the kitchen I saw that all the ingredients had been laid out, there was fruit, eggs, flour, and everything else to make a big breakfast. Emma grabbed two Aprons and handed one to me.
“What are we going to cook?”
“How about you cut some fruit, I’ll make egg benedicts since they are my dad’s favorite food, and we can make pancakes cause I’m craving that.”
“Okay.” After we talked about the menu, Emma started to cut the fruit, I made the egg benedicts and the batter that Emma would cook to make pancakes.
“You better go out there, I think your family is already coming down.” Emma said while putting the last bit of pancake batter on the pancake skillet.
“Right, I’ll see you in a bit, then.” taking off the apron I put it on a chair and was about to walk away.
“Lily, clean your face, you have flour.” Emma tossed a napkin and kept pointing to her left side.
After cleaning myself she gave me a thumbs up and I walked to the diner where everyone had taken a seat except for my dad.
“Come give your dad a hug.” he said as soon as he saw me and I smiled.
“Hi, dad.”
“How have you been? How is your little shop doing?” he said while we both took a seat and joined my step mother and her daughters at the table.
“Good, it’s becoming a little popular because of the pastries. People like cute things to post.”
“That’s good, look at how much you have grown.”
“From the sides.” whispered Alexa who sat beside me and whispered low enough for me to only hear her remark.
Even though her remark affected me I decided to ignore her. But I guess someone else also heard her and “Accidentally” spilled water.
“What the heck are you doing?” shrieked Alexa and stood up from her seat after Emma spilled water on her lap.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, my hand slipped. Let me get a to…”
“Give me that.” said Alexa, yanking the towel out of Emma’s hands.
“Oh hey Emma, how are you?” said my father once he noticed it was Emma while I tried not to laugh.
“Richard, aren’t you going to do something? She just spilled water on my daughter’s lap.” said sarah.
“Calm down, it’s just water, she can just put on another pair of sweatpants and a new shirt.” said my dad and took a bite from his fruit.
“ I am fine, sir.” Ignoring the glares that she was receiving,Emma continued to serve food and Sarah and Alexa were unhappy and anger was radiating off of them. On the other hand, Anna was eating her food without making a fuss.
For a while the only sound that could be heard was the clinking of the silver ware against the plates since nobody spoke much, one by one everybody excused themselves until it was just my father, Sarah and I at the table.
“Lily...I actually needed to talk to you.”
“About what?”
“I need you…” he cleared his throat,” I need you to get married.” he said and I froze not being able to process what he said.
“I-I...Its…”
“Think about it for a few minutes and then come meet me at my office.” he stood up and walked away.
